I, myself, do not like doing more than 4 miles on a TM. I have had to use a TM twice due to certain circumstances. One time in a hotel I used their TM for a 9 miler and didn't like it much and then recently my sister's TM for a 10 miler due to rain issues. I didn't like it then either. I have always walked outside on grass, sidewalks, streets etc. I just don't know how people do it, training on a TM. But then again, if you have to get in the miles, then you have to do what you can. I also agree with Dave that the boredom is hard enough. I like the feeling of going somewhere and that is also why I don't like using a track where you go in circles. I have had to walk around and around at Pop Century and All Stars to get training miles in and that can be a bit boring after 5 laps or so. I am of the ol' "out and back" kinda thinking.
I just recently got in to racewalking and have been at it specifically for about 2 years and have taken one private racewalking lesson. I plan on changing my training plan a bit after the DL 1/2. I would start "training" for the WDW half 16weeks before following a 16week program from about.walking.com and I like the program because it includes doing 13.1 miles before the actual event.
I think I will keep my longer walks at a base of 6-8 miles after the DL 1/2.
I contribute my good beginner racewalking form to being a marcing band member for 8 years. We used a technique when marching that included alot of the things that racewalkers use.
Have I talked enough???
Nancy: Hi!! Glad to see that your alive - hehe.
Eyeores Butterfly: Hi and
to the Walkers area. Please, go out and treat yourself to a good pair of shoes that you can walk in. Flip-flops, as any podiatrist would tell you, are not a good choice for walking. Use a good fitness/running store where they can analyse your gait and recommend a good shoe for you.
