Walkers Sharing Experiences

I, myself, do not like doing more than 4 miles on a TM. I have had to use a TM twice due to certain circumstances. One time in a hotel I used their TM for a 9 miler and didn't like it much and then recently my sister's TM for a 10 miler due to rain issues. I didn't like it then either. I have always walked outside on grass, sidewalks, streets etc. I just don't know how people do it, training on a TM. But then again, if you have to get in the miles, then you have to do what you can. I also agree with Dave that the boredom is hard enough. I like the feeling of going somewhere and that is also why I don't like using a track where you go in circles. I have had to walk around and around at Pop Century and All Stars to get training miles in and that can be a bit boring after 5 laps or so. I am of the ol' "out and back" kinda thinking.
I just recently got in to racewalking and have been at it specifically for about 2 years and have taken one private racewalking lesson. I plan on changing my training plan a bit after the DL 1/2. I would start "training" for the WDW half 16weeks before following a 16week program from about.walking.com and I like the program because it includes doing 13.1 miles before the actual event.
I think I will keep my longer walks at a base of 6-8 miles after the DL 1/2.
I contribute my good beginner racewalking form to being a marcing band member for 8 years. We used a technique when marching that included alot of the things that racewalkers use.

Have I talked enough???

Nancy: Hi!! Glad to see that your alive - hehe.

Eyeores Butterfly: Hi and :welcome: to the Walkers area. Please, go out and treat yourself to a good pair of shoes that you can walk in. Flip-flops, as any podiatrist would tell you, are not a good choice for walking. Use a good fitness/running store where they can analyse your gait and recommend a good shoe for you.

Tracy

Princess Butterfly, yes as Tracy said shoes are the most important piece of equipment.

If you find a couple you like really well go for the ones with the lowest heel.

Hey Dave.... I'm here and things are going well. Getting my miles in for the DL 1/2. I have a 12 miler on tap for Sunday. I have 4 miler for later (in about an hour or so), Saturday will be for XT of some sort.

Hope all the other walkers are doing well and walking strong.

Well, just back from my 4miler and freshly showered. Wow it was kinda hot put there between 5:15 and 6:15pm.
Got out there and had sun at my face on the way out. Also decided to try my new NB903s and see how they feel. At the first mile (decided not to look at Garmi until each mile) Garmi showed 14:18 and it felt good, shoes were feeling fine and not pushing too much. So, here are my splits:
1-14min 18.02sec
2-14min 2.20sec
3-14min 7.09sec
4-13min 31.13sec.

Average pace 13:59. This is my fastest "training walk" and especially at this time of day!! Yeah me.

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Hello there Walkers! It has been a while since I came about and posted here. I haven't been able to get outside to do much training but I have continued doing as much as I can on the TM. I would much rather be outside too but there has been a lot of rain here lately and that has been preventing me. I have done 13 miles this week on the TM and I am planning on doing a long 13.1 miles tomorrow or Sunday to actually get the feel for doing the 1/2. Once I get it done, I will come back and post how I did and if I lived thru it.:confused3 :lmao:

Hope all of you are doing well!

Bryan

Good luck with the long walk tomorrow, Bryan! John and I plan to do 10....our longest since before the Minnie! We'll see how that goes........

I walk on the beach every day now -for the past five weeks and have just been taken off my blood pressure meds...happy days!!!

Welcome to the thread! :welcome:

Oh thanks so much! Thought I was on my own for a while! You look good in your pic by the way!

I'm here, but it's a message board, not a chat room. Most of us post and then just check back later. Not sure how many posts it takes to be a veteran.......75 maybe? Does anyone know?

I'm a married mother of 4! (all grown now) I just did my first marathon this past January at age 54! The woman I walked with (padisneyfan/Nancy) was a few years older.

Irelfan: :welcome: to the Walkers Thread!! You will become a mousketeer first and then a Veteran. Check in every now and then and let us know how you're doing.

Good morning!

Irelfan! Welcome! Good job kicking the bp meds!!! :dance3:

Hi! Jeanne! Hi Bryan!

Great Job, Tracey!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and a great weekend planned.

I don't know what's going to happen around here. DOOC has most of today off and tomorrow. He wants to go someplace. LOL He always wants to go someplace. Another cup of coffee or two and I am going to go for a walk. I would love to do about 6 miles today.

Not too sure how my 12 miles are looking for tomorrow???? :confused3 I may need to bring a raincoat and just get wet. I don't really want to use my sisters TM again. If all else fails I can at least get in maybe about 8 and then do the 12 next week. My training schedule does have some room for rearrangement.

Thanks Steff and Dave!!

Tracy, I don't know if you wear a ball cap but the bill keeps the rain off your face and the rain can actually be quite refreshing after you get as wet as you are going to get. Use some body glide for chaffing and wear breathable frabrics. Have a towel and a change of clothes waiting for when you are done. It can be an adventure.

What ever you decide have fun with it.
