Walk to Anaheim Garden Walk?

I thought I had asked before but cannot find the thread. Is the Garden Walk within walking distance from DL. We will be staying at VGC, can we walk it or would we need to find some form of transportation?

You can walk it, but I would rather not. But that's my personal preference, it definitely can be walked from the DLR hotels.

We've stayed at the hotel right next to the GardenWalk and walked to DLR with no problems. I'm guessing it might take about 15-20 minutes for you to walk there from DLR. I think it's walkable and I would do that over having to find some sort of transporation.

I'd walk for sure. 15 minutes sounds about right for a casual walk. If you get on a cab they are likely to take you a round about way twice the distance of walking. People stay at hotel that are a much further walk from the parks than GCV to Garden Walk.

Besides taking a cab, you may want to consider riding ART if you don't feel like walking.

Sidenote: I have to laugh that so many would suggest walking to Garden Walk, but the walk to any hotel not across Harbor would be recommended to take ART or drive? :confused3

To add to the humorous (but very honest) side of planning:

I would say you could certainly walk TO Disneyland from Gardenwalk, but I would not want to walk to Gardenwalk from Disneyland at the end of the day. (I'm mega-tired after a full day at the Park.)

We walked from GCH to Garden Walk for lunch and walked back. It was a nice walk and definately not too far. Our 10 year old son walked too and he wasn't bothered by the walk either.

I would walk again when we go next. It's funny staying at GCH, we never go out that way and it was nice venturing out onto Harbour (I think that's the name of the street) and seeing the other side rather than just DTD towards Disneyland Hotel direction.

So, if we were to decide to walk, we would leave the GCH, go thru DTD, walk past the DL and CA entrances and out the other side? We have only been as far as thru DTD and into the esplanade, so I am not sure what is out that other way. Wonder where I could get a map of the surrounding area. I am not sure if AAA would have one specific enough to that area.

Here's a Google Map. You can walk through DTD as you described, but from GCH it might be easiest to walk down to Katella and go east from there. Drag the yellow man icon to onto the map to get the Google Maps "Street View" so you can see what the area looks like.

The Katella entrance to Gardenwalk is where the nicer restaurants are - Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's, etc. The north end has the movie theater, bowling alley, and a few other restaurants like Johnny Rockets and Fire & Ice.

Last year on a day trip with my brother and his wife, we had to park at GW. We went out the back of the parking garage (per a map it seems that brought us out onto Disney Way), and it was a very short and simple walk to the esplanade. The walk from the Mickey parking lot was longer, when brother and I took that walk the year or so before (he'd forgotten something in his car and we didn't want to deal with the tram).

Walking back was perfectly fine, too. The trick, though, was going into the back of the parking garage and then you would just head out to the mall area. I think it takes more time if you go along the sidewalk the whole way. I could be wrong, but seems that going through the lot made it diagonal and shorter.

If you get on a cab they are likely to take you a round about way twice the distance of walking.

If that's been your experience with Anaheim cabs, I would bet it's just b/c of the streets and entrances to the resort area, than an on purpose, taking the meter higher, sneaky reason. Especially if you're on Harbor, that's just a pain to get anywhere on b/c you have to go far past your destination, make a u turn, etc etc.

And I found it easy enough to work out a flat fee to my destination...

;) Yah I agree. I mean I can understand if you have a disability, your just way too exhausted to continue and need a lift there, or if you have several little ones with you, but if your ok to walk I found the walk no worse then walking to Hojo's. Just the opposite direction. Its not that far at all. 10-15 minute walk from the Main Disneyland Gate. You sometimes would get there faster by walking then waiting around for a shuttle anyway.

What a cool feature that I never knew about - thank you! I feel a little silly because I actually got excited for a second like I was really there! :rotfl:

LOL SWEET! I played with this feature about a month or so ago and wasnt sure how I did it. That's pretty awesome. Too bad it couldnt take you down all streets and such. But it was fun just now to google my up coming Disney trip hotel and the streets around to see familiar happiness again.

Have to add my voice to the very walkable. Yep just walk through DTD and you are on your way. I do have to say when we went there really wasn't much worth the walk though. This was December 09 /January 10.

Yes, it's kind of fun to type in your own home address and see if they've been down your street. They've been down my out-of-the-way street, and my brother's cul-de-sac 20 miles from here. But we digress... ;)

When we did the walk we hadn't been past the disneyland and california adventure entrances before as we have always stayed at either GCH or DLH. If you go to the desk at GCH opposite the check in counter (it's at the door where you go out to the Kids club). I can't remember what it's called, its like a tour desk. Anyway they should be able to give you a map on where to go. But we walked through DTD past the Disneyland and CA park entrances and out onto S Harbour. It was a great way to go, we enjoyed it as we hadn't ever been out that way before so enjoyed walking along that street seeing many of the hotels that we had read about here on Dis. When we got out of DTD we crossed the street there to the other side of the road and went right then took the next street, (Disney Way) and walked in the back entrance of Garden Walk looking at some shops along the way out to the other entrance where we had lunch at PF Changs, then grabbed some dessert take out from Cheesecake Factory. We then walked back along W.Katella then back onto S Harbour past Candy Cane Inn and back into DTD.

After the walk back to the hotel and walking off our delicious lunch at PF Changs we sat out on our balcony overlooking CA park and Mullholland Madness ride eating our dessert from Cheesecake Factory.

Since the google map isn't totally up to date - I was wondering, where exactly do you enter the Garden Walk? From Katella? Disney Way?

We might be staying at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel which I believe is right behind (in front?) of the Garden Walk.
