We are flying into Sanford for the first time and wondered if it was the same system as MCO ~ where you collect luggage and then give it back, I would be really grateful if someone could walk me through Sanford to plane landing and where you collect the hire car. Usually at MCO, DH + eldest DS wait for luggage the 2nd time and youngest DS and I go to get the car, as DH doesn't drive this is alot quicker, is it the same at Sanford

hiya

theres no collecting then giving back luggage

at sanford you get off the plane go through customs then get you bags, then its either a case scan (if your chosen) or straight out of the door, simple as that lol

Sanford is a much smaller airport than MCO.

Basically you get off the plane through customs to get your bag then follow the airport through to the car hire 'room'.

There are often a few charters arriving about the same time so there is a possibility of queues at the car hire so it may be worth splitting up to try and get ahead of the queues to get the car. Arranging to meet in the car hire room should leave no room for losing each other.

Sanford is very straightforward. You come off the plane, go through immigration (where you might encounter longer queues), turn right and you are in baggage reclaim, there are I think only 2 carousels. You get your bags and take them through a scanner, then you are straight outside, across the road and into the car hire desk. There is really no need to split up. Only the driver is allowed in to the desk, and you can't take your luggage in there.
It can take a while if several planes land at once, but due to the small capacity of the terminal building you are more likely to be kept waiting on the plane than waiting in line inside. We have been off the plane and outside the terminal in less than 20 minutes before.

Literally? ;) I'd be glad to ... if you have a ticket for me :teeth:

Sanford is so much easier to navigate than MCO. It's similar in scale to somewhere like Cardiff or Luton rather than Gatwick or Heathrow. You'll have no problem finiding your way around and, as has already been said, there's not much scope for getting lost! Driving out of the car rental lot is also very straightforward and quieter than coming out of MCO - better when you're tired after a long flight.

We've never flown to MCO so don't really have anything to compare it with. But haven't had any problems at Sanford.

On the way back can recommend The Guest House at Sanford whilst you wait for your return flight.

Thanks for all your help. We are flying Sunshine First with TCD, do you think this will mean that we get off the plane first, as this may help with queues!!!

You should be first off the plane we were last year and I was literally the first person from our flight into the Dollar car hire place. Unfortunately there was another flight that had landed not that long before us and there was the biggest/slowest queue in the history of queing at the Dollar desk :furious: It took an hour to get to the front of the queue and pick the car up - which was longer than it took to drive from Sanford to Wilderness Lodge.
