Wal Mart vs Target

Here's my public Google Map that shows the location of the shops we generally use or have used in the past. I've put in notes where it makes sense, like "closest to ___", etc.

My Orlando Map

Around here the "Super" varriants of Target and Walmart have significantly less selection than the major grocery chain.

True - I was comnparing the "Supers" to a full-service grocery store, only because they are still something of a rarity in the Northeast U.S. (New Jersey and points north)

6 months ago I would have absolutely and unequivocally said Target. I love their merchandise.

However...

I am upset with the Target corporation for some of their recent "newsworthy" activity, which due to rules of this board I shall not name for fear of a politcal debate. So, that makes my vote for Walmart. Cheap, chinese made items, but at least they don't bankrupt me I suppose.

Sigh...anyone remember 30 years ago when Walmart's key advertising slogan was that everything there was made in America? I miss those days.

There's a Winn-Dixie on Opelika right down the road from Hotel Blvd.

It's a grocery store, cheaper than Publix, better produce and meats than Wal-Mart or Target.

Just apply for a buyers card, you'll save even more.

Just be careful -- Winn-Dixie has been in and out of bankruptcy in recent years to the point where they are now only in the state of Florida (as opposed to once being a Southern grocery powerhouse).

In fact, just a few weeks ago, they announced the closing of another 30 stores.

Ever seen the cardboard boxes that make the rounds in a Target store during the first few hours after store opening when the shelves are being stocked? They all say "made in China", too. It can be a very sobering experience for the Target faithful.

It's called globalization (and though people don't want to hear it, it was the high costs of American production that was our undoing). And even 30 years ago, not everything Walmart sold was American-made (Before the 1990's, inexpensive things were still being manfactured in Taiwan and Hong Kong) - it was a special branding on particular products (Sam's American Choice) which were highlighted in TV/print advertising by WM patriarch Sam Walton.
