Wal Mart vs Target

Where is the Supertarget? Is it "near" AKL?

It is SOOOOO close! We are just back! Head down Osceola (the road AKL is on) and at the first lights turn right on Sherberth. Then turn right on Irlo Bronson. Drive a little way and it will be on the left side of the road. There is also a Publix directly across Irlo Bronson on the right side, but we weren't impressed with it. We shopped at Target a TON!

Right off Sherberth Road (near AKL) is a brand new Target. I would about 3 miles! So happy as I like Target MUCH better than Walmart.

I find that walmart is not that far from any Wd resort and prices are much better too. I been a member over 10 years and it never gets old..

Thanks everyone! I will be at Disney for 28 days and will need not only groceries but other supplies. I do not like leaving property, I have been know to have “melt-downs” when I see GREEN signs instead of PURPLE. I was not aware there was a Target on 192I’ll have to map it to see where it’s located. Again, Thanks!!!

Brand new and SUPER close!

There's a Winn-Dixie on Opelika right down the road from Hotel Blvd.

It's a grocery store, cheaper than Publix, better produce and meats than Wal-Mart or Target.

Not so -- all the WMs and Targets are "Walmart Supercenters" and "SuperTarget" (meaning unlike in Massachusetts, both have all the features of a typical supermarket), respectively.

In Central Mass we have one of the largest Walmart Supercenters in the country, just opened this summer and it is one of their new prototype stores. I shop there all the time and trust me the selection is not as good as a regular supermarket. Just go the deli or meat department, both have a small selection of meats, also I can't get certain cheeses in the dairy section. Other items the selection is fine. I am also very familiar with shopping at Super Target in FL. I love both of them for the prices, but there are some things I just can't get at a WM SC and Super Target and have to supplement with a regular grocery store.

I would say go with Wal-Mart, I mean hey your spending enough on your vacation anyway might as well get a deal on snacks and bottled water, ect. Target is great too, but I've always found walmart to be cheaper.

Wal-mart is never a good choice, imo. Hate that chain for so many reasons. :sad2:

Another vote for Publix. Since I tend to stay at AKL, the one on 192 right off Sherberth Rd is pretty convenient.

That is where the Publix and Target that we'll go to is located.

We usually order our groceries in from WeGoShop but on our last trip, I had to make an unexpected trip to get some minor medical supplies. The BC staff directed me to the Publix nearby and it was big, clean, and had great variety!

Always Wal-Mart for us. We just get water and other drinks, and snack food and find Wal-Mart way cheaper and more convenient.

as a brit who has yet to go to the USA is there any major difference in price between walmart, target, Publix & Goodings?

Wal-Mart - typically the lowest prices, but in my experience the stores are unkempt and understocked. I believe all the stores near Disney are "supercenters" that sell general merchandise items and groceries.

Target - more upscale merchandise with somewhat higher prices on some things. More design-focused in general. Grocery items tend to be nicer than Wal-mart IMO.

Though both sell groceries, they definitely do not offer the selection of a Publix or Albertson's.

Publix - large grocery chain. You'll find a much better selection of food items here, but a very limited selection of general merchandise. Prices are fair, and stores are plentiful in the area.

Goodings - I'm surprised it's still open, really. It used to be a nice, small grocery with outrageous prices. Now it's a dimly-lit, poorly stocked grocery with outrageous prices.

With sam club you have to be a member and also everything is in bulk which means some food will be left at the resort

No. I live about 3 miles from this store and we have begun to drive out of our way to go to the Publix up on Sand Lake because of how bad this store is.

My husband and I started noticing how high the prices were so we did a test. Bought the exact same 5 items at Winn Dixie and Publix. We ended up spending about 4 dollars more at Winn Dixie! For 5 items, that's a lot.

The people in that Winn Dixie are anything but friendly as well. I know very few locals at this point that actually shop there regularly.

If given the choice between Publix and Winn Dixie save yourself the headache and go to Publix. For anyone staying off property or even near Universal instead of on WDW property, there's a Publix on Sand Lake road which is excellent and a Walmart on Turkey Lake road. Very close proximity to each other, about 6 miles from the DTD resorts.
