We are arriving on July 6:Pinkbounc at the airport and renting a car (the absolute best deal--and I have searched! was using the Sams Club website --the codes and coupons both--and you don't have to have a membership to get the coupon or code off the website---I am not sure if they would ask for the membership card at the rental counter or not. I did print the coupon right off the website. You get the same price on the internet as you do when you call on the phone--and on the phone you don't have to give a credit card) Anyway, my question is I wanted to stop on the way to OKW and get what we needed--I have read the Wal Mart is far off and dirty? What is the best place to stop and directions for it?? I have also read about a Publix and a Target.....Thanks. PS We got a full sized car (such as Buick Century for $396 (includes all taxes and fees) for 7/6---7/19 from Alamo, midsize was only $10 cheaper.

If you are mainly stopping for groceries I would stop at a grocery store, but if you need to pick up miscellaneous sundries a Wal-Mart or Target may be better. Winn Dixie is new in town and a very nice grocery store. To get the best prices you need the discount card which you can apply for right in the store. Have hubby go apply while you hit start the shopping. Get two carts one you and one for him. Have him swing by the beverages and do the heavy lifting of bottled water, sodas, and beer and meet in the middle.

You could have applied for the card before going but you don't have enough time but no sense crying about spilt milk.

Customer Rewards Card

I would be very careful using a Sam's Club coupon if you aren't a member. They may ask for your membership card when you pick up the car and if you can't produce one your rates could possibly skyrocket. I don't know this for certain, but it is a possibility. The following was taken directly from the MouseSavers website.
Costco, Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club offer discounts on Alamo to their members . See the store for specific codes and coupons.
I ran your dates at National using a Contract ID for Carlson Wagonlit Travel that is good for everyone and came up with a Full Size rate of $364 including tax. This was figuring a 9am pick-up / drop-off. The Contract ID is available at www.mousesavers.com if you would like to check it out. I didn't log in as an Emerald Club member when I ran your numbers either.

Answer: Publix or Winn Dixie

If you are coming on the toll road to Disney, Publix, or Winn Dixie are your best bets for groceries. Winn Dixie on 535 right past Crossroads. Publix behind Premium Outlet Mall at Little Lake Bryan. (at 535 heading towards Crossroads, Little Lake Bryan is on the right at the light right before I4) I would agree the Walmart on 192 is not the cleanest in the world but has everything you would ever want. The Super Target is at Millenia exit 78 on I4 is new clean and pardon the pun "Super". Both are a trip. Not a long one but a trip.

I think if you are just getting there Publix or Winn Dixie will do fine!

My directions assume you know something of the area since you are staying at OKW. If I am wrong, let me know and will give more detailed directions

First of all, I would like to thank Kitster--you just saved me $40. I do have a Sams Club membership, however I hadn't really thought of using that for car rental....Anyway, mousesavers was where I got that idea! I had tried hundreds of codes and coupons ( I have the Entertainment Book that I ordered off the mousesavers link--unfortunately they were still $25) I had not tried the Carsonlit Travel Id because it said it was for short stays (or something like that) anyway I went back and tried that--put one of my coupons from the Entertainment Book for a 2 car class upgrade (only because my husband is bringing golf clubs and we have 2 teen age daughters--trunk space is at a premium) and now have a reservation with National--full size car for $354 total!!!!Thanks so much--I hope I don't have trouble with that Contract ID number...I am keeping my other reservation just in case! To Yes Dear--sounds like a great plan, however, I do know nothing of the area and was just going to print off mapquest for directions from the airport to OKW. If you have any more detailed directions--I sure would appreciate it.

Are you looking for directions to OKW or directly to the Publix and/or Winn Dixie from the airport?

RweThereyet better at directions then I am. She says I leave out to much!!!!

Yes Dear!

I was hoping to leave the airport, stop at the store and then on to OKW. I was just hoping to get directions off of here....my next guess was going to be mapquest.:D Thanks!

I went to the walmart on 192 3 times during our last "family" trip (Christmas time 2002) and I never noticed it being dirty. Looked clean to me! It was packed to the gills though- each time... even though one of those times was in the middle of the night! What gives? LOL People here in Texas do not shop that much in the middle of the night- so I usually get the store practically to myself.
Anyway- my view of the Walmart on 192 was not dirty but very very busy. If you're in a hurry- forget that Walmart. LOL

I think I will skip the Wal Mart---although, I am thinking the one in Missouri will shut down while I am gone lol, and stick with the advice of Publix or Winn Dixie-I was going to pick up water/soda/poptarts & snacks. CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss. That is GREAT--a friend of mine at work is on that diet (I am a bread/sweet eater--I could never do it) and I hope she has the great success that you have had!!

I agree with you, I don't find that Wal*Mart to be dirty. Busy, yes, dirty, not at all. And, it is very easy to get to from the airport.
Take the south exit from the airport, get on the Florida Greenway (RTE 417) get off at route 535 head south until you get to the intersection of 535 and 192, left on 192 approx. 3 miles on right is Super Wal*Mart. I find their prices to be lower than Publix, WinDixie and definitely MUCH MUCH lower than Goodings.

If you are headed for OKW, the easiest shopping stop is either the Super Target or Albertsons supermarket, which are on the Orange Blossom Trail exit of SR417 (Greenway), one exit past (east) of John Young Pkwy. This is on the southern route from MCO to WDW, not the Beeline/I-4 northern. After shopping, you can get right back on the Greenway and follow the signs to WDW. (We usually take the International Drive exit that leads to World Center Drive/Epcot Center Drive to get to OKW.)

The Super Target has all the regular items that Target has, as well as an Archer Farms super market. For refreshments, there is a Starbucks and a snack bar with Pizza Hut/Taco Bell inside the store.

The Albertsons supermarket is in a shopping center with a Home Depot, a Dollar Tree store, and other shops, kitty corner to Target on the other side of the Greeway.

Here's the address for the Super Target and store hours:

Hunters Creek SuperTarget
2155 Town Center Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32837 USA
Phone: (407) 251-5133
Hours: Mon-Sat 8am to 11pm Sun 8am to 9pm

If you are a member of Costco, there is one on Orange Blossom Trail, about 3-5 miles north of Albertsons. There is also a gas station at this Costco that will be a couple pennies cheaper than local prices.

HTH, Steve

Just so you know about using the Carlon Wagonlit. I used it from mousesaver website also since it says it is for everybody but when I rented National at the Dolphin, the lady asked to see my Carlson Wagonlit employee Badge:eek: I told her that this code was for everybody and since they were about to close she said she would go ahead and give me the rate and check on the code later.

My rate thankfully never changed when I returned the car.

I was going to let Mary at Mousesavers know but I never got around to it. This happened on June 15.

Question to Gail Hayden.....Is the SuperWalmart anywhere near Country Inn and Suites at Calypso Cay? I've been trying to pinpoint the hotel and think I have it narrowed down to between Oscela Parkway and 192 on 535 and it'd be great to have a Walmart so close.

Yes, the Wal*Mart is about 3.5 miles from Calypso Cay. There is also a Sam's Club on 192, it is on the left as you are heading to Wal*Mart. Calypso Cay is actually right off RTE 535, you will see signs for it.

WalMart's site has a store locator, with directions. I took the liberty of mapping it for you. Here are the directions.

Step Directions Distance (miles)

1 Start out going Southwest on SUNWARD DR towards SADINA ST by turning left. 0.03

2 Turn LEFT onto SADINA ST. 0.0

3 Turn LEFT onto SUNWARD DR. 0.11

4 Turn RIGHT onto VINELAND RD. 0.42

5 Turn LEFT onto W IRLO BRONSON MEMORIAL HWY. 2.65

6 W IRLO BRONSON MEMORIAL HWY becomes W VINE ST. 0.29

Vineland is 535 and W.Irlo Bronson/W Vine is 192.

Hope this helps.
