Waitlisting? Does it ever really come through?

I have a reservation for June and we had to split it between AKV and BLT. But our last day was unavailable at BLT, so we wait listed. In order to secure a place to stay, we're going back to AKV for the last day. Ugh! Sounds like a lot of packing and unpacking.

Do people ever really get bumped up from a waiting list? When can this happen? Can you find out where you are in line for a given day?

In about 5 tries, I have never had a waitlist not come through. These were for typically slower time frames anywhere from exactly 7 months out to 1 month out. My experience may not be typically, but we have been very lucky using the WL.
Good luck.

We average about a 50% success rate. We have been on a wait list at BWV for March 5, 2010 for six months now for a studio, Boardwalk view. We got some of our days but we are missing four.

Our waitlist comes thru quite often, about 80% of the time.

Hey Simba's Mom! I just noticed you're from Harlingen... well so am I!!!! It is definitely 'A Small World!'

We bought at BLT last summer and ended up booking our trip to BLT at 6 or 7 months out vs. the 11 mos out. We initially had something really crazy like wait listed for the first 2 nights, a studio at BLT for the 3rd night, waitlisted for the 4th night, and a studio at BLT for the subsequent nights. Given this was our first time, we were worried that we would get all nights at BLT and didn't want to move every couple of days. The waitlist came through in 2 months for us. I guess we got lucky.

With BLT it might be harder but we waitlisted at Vero for one of our nights and it came through within a month. Good luck!

Did you actually get just some of your days from the waitlist?

I always thought the waitlist was all or nothing. For example, if you were waitlisted for 4 consecutive nights, even if the first three of those became available the waitlist would not "match-up" for you, and those nights would go to someone else. Even if the fourth night became available later, one or more of the first three would probably be gone by then, so again it would not match-up.

Your post seems to indicate I am wrong, and I hope I am, it would make the waitlist a lot more attractive to me.

I just recently booked a room for February at AKL and had to waitlist for 1 night - it came through a day later.

For BWV, we had a one bedroom Boardwalk view for the week of Jan 17, 2010. I WL'ed for a two bedroom - that never happened, but only 20% of the rooms are that view so I wasn't surprised.

BLT is very popular right now. everyone who bought there wants to stay there. It might ease up as time goes on.

I've never been told where I am on a waitlist. I used to have 100 per cent success rate, but the last 2-3 years, it's probably 50%. Resorts seem to be sold out more often.

I have always gotten my waitlist request in the short two years that I have been a member

For BCV and even at BWV during F&W in Oct. I guess I've been lucky, since 2 times on waitlist and 2 times I got it. :goodvibes

It depends on how you put in the WL. If you WL the entire trip, then yes, it is all or nothing.

However, some will put in partial WL's to increase success. For example, say you want 5 nights at BLT. In addition to putting in a WL for the entire 5 days, someone might also put in a WL for the first 2 days. If those become available, they will fill that.

Once that happens, you call and adjust the WL to include the last 3 days and maybe just night three.

Since you can have 2 active WL at one time, it is a way to get a trip covered in steps.

We were waitlisted for our final night in Vero Beach. It was for Monday night 4/5 - day after easter. I booked back in Sept. and have not heard anything so I just checked the DVC website at random yesterday and sure enough, our final night was booked with its own reservation number.:cool1::banana::cool1: I had booked a hotel near the airport just in case, but glad to know I can now cancel it!

We're 1 for 1 on waitlisting. We had a studio for Mar. 7th-12th at VGC reserved but wanted to change it to a 1 bedroom unit. (We had our first trip in Dec. in a 2 bedroom and the studio seemed a little small after seeing some pictures). They had all our days except Wed. available so we waitlisted and lo and behold we got it the next day! This just happened this week so there must not be the demand at GVC as there is at other resorts. Good luck

We were just put on the waitlist for one night(march 17) in the grand Villa at AKL. What do you think our chances are of getting this. Are the grand villas usually gone.

Wendy

I called in November for a 2bdrm at the VGC for 6/20 - 6/24 and could only confirm the first night, 6/20. They waitlisted me for the remaining 3 nights in both a dedicated and lock-off to increase my changes of clearing. And has others have pointed out, it is all or nothing if you have multiple nights waitlisted so I called back frequently to check availability. Early this month, 6/22 became available so I booked it which changed my waitlist to 2 single nights both for the decidated. Today, 6/23 cleared so now I am just waiting for one more night, 6/23. Since I only changed my waitlist once, I did not lose my priority. I was told if you change the waitlist more than once, you lose your original spot on the list and go on as if it was a new waitlist.
