waitlisting at multiple resorts

Hi DVC'ers!

I am SO excited to be staying at a DVC resort this December...we rented points this time in order to figure out if buying into DVC was something we wanted to do!

Here's my question: because we (uneducatedly... :( ) waited until the 7-month window to book our December trip, we couldn't get a 2-bedroom at BWV, BCV, or VWL, so we are currently in a 1-bedroom at BWV and waitlisted for a 2-BR at the other two resorts. My question is this: we REALLY want the 2BR at VWL. If a 2-BR becomes available elsewhere and our reservation is transferred (automatically, at our request), will that take us off the waitlist for VWL's 2-BR?

Thanks so much for your expert advice! We'll be seeing some of you in December :D

I don't know the answer to your question, but here are some thoughts.

-- If you are renting points, that may complicate your situation unless you have a very close working relation with the member supplying the points.

-- VWL in Dec is notoriously hard to get. That doesn't mean the waitlist won't come through, just that you shouldn't count on it. If you waitlisted close to the 7-month window, you have a fighting chance.

-- Is OKW really not acceptable? It's the easiest one to get. Last year I had no trouble getting an OKW 1BR at 6 months for early Dec. And an OKW 1BR is as big as a 2BR anywhere else. (No we didn't stay there -- our waitlist for BCV came through.)

-- If you're really serious about wanting VWL, consider asking to be waitlisted on a day-by-day basis. That way they'll reserve one day at a time as the days become available. IF you're lucky, you can put together an entire reservation that way. Otherwise you won't get it unless your entire stay becomes available all at once, which is much less likely. However there is the risk of getting stuck with a partial reservation and having to move in the middle of your stay.

This is what we did to get our BCV stay last year. But it was much less of a risk because additional units became available at BCV on a continuing basis due to ongoing sales. At VWL someone actually has to cancel for you to get in.

I was recently in the your situation and wondered the same thing. I called MS and they told me my 2nd choice BWV came through and yes I was still in the system waiting for my first choice BCV. I was changing from VWL wanting BCV 1st choice and BWV 2nd choice. Today I was suprised to find out my 1st choice BCV was secured for 3 of the 5 days now. I was and am on the auto, day by day waitlist.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm glad to know that we can still hold out hope for VWL even if we get moved to a 2BR elsewhere ;)

Erik, it's not that OKW is unacceptable, my family had just already stayed there once when I was a child, and we were hoping to try out a different location this time. It will be nice to walk to Epcot & MGM, or take the boat over to MK if we get into VWL.

We're on the auto waitlist for the entire stay only. The person we're renting from has been great and willing to rent the additional points if the 2BR comes through but I wouldn't ask him to do a day-by-day waitlist for us, as that is a lot of trouble for him. Oh well. Next time I'll know more about when to book! (or I'll be a DVC member myself.... :bounce: )

Thanks again everyone.
