We are waitlisted for a studio on October 31 and Nov 1 at OKW, hoping it comes thru. I can book for cash a studio at OKW for those dates, is there a point when the rooms for cash might convert to DVC? Or does that never happen?

Thanks

That's kind of annoying -- I would have thought that if there were rooms available at all the DVC owners would get the first chance at them. Why shouldn't they allow you to book that?

Not really.

However, sometimes the MS CMs can "work a bit of magic" within 7 days of arrival. If your waitlist hasn't come through by then, call every day to see if you can catch a cancellation or if the CM will call the resort directly to see if something can be worked out in your favor. You never know.

Good luck -

It might be annoying, but chances are that the room became available for cash in the first place because someone chose to use points for something other than staying at a DVC resort.

When a member choses to use points for one of the non-DVC resort options, DVC must turn those points into cash to pay for that option. Thus the equivalent number of DVC room nights are sent over to CRO to rent to the general public. Without this system, members would not be able to use their points for anything except staying at a DVC resort. By far, most rooms available for cash at a DVC resort come from this source!

Also, Disney retains a small ownership interest in each DVC resort. If the room nights represented by that small percentage aren't needed for administrative/rehab purposes, they are rented out for cash.

FWIW, members always have first chance at the inventory of rooms available for points. The OP probably booked fairly late in the window - if I recall correctly, those OKW nights were readily available at the 7 month window. Even though the OP is still on the waitlist, - he may get them yet.

Best wishes -

We did book late, actually had planned for a 2005 trip for the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, but with Southwest offering $49 flights, we couldnt resist. Hopefully it will open up, otherwise we will try the 7 day squeeze plan!
