Waitlist additional night at AKV-K? Or stick with cash POR ressie?

We've added a night at the beginning of our Spring Break with the Grandkids trip this March. Didn't have the points when we decided to add, so booked cash at POR. With AP discount, paying about $250 for a preferred room (so are guaranteed that there are 3 beds, one for DH and I and one for each of the GKs).

Now that we can borrow 2017 points, I've got a choice to make. We have been renting points that we don't want to use through David's and saving that cash for a cruise for our 25th Anniversary in May 2017. I've listed the 2017 points with David's. But unlike previous experience, I haven't gotten any emails yet with potential renters. December use year, 200 points, AKV-K home resort. It's only been about a week - but I got multiple emails within days last time I rented.

Should I take about 40 of those points and use them to waitlist for the additional night (and cancel POR)? Or wait to see if they rent and, if not, bank them? We're at AKV-K, 1 BR standard view - I'd want the same room type, so as to hopefully not have to move.

Are you traveling with a party of five? I assume that you are referring to the Alligator Bayou rooms, at Port Orleans Riverside, which feature two queen beds and one murphy bed. Last year, we opted for French Quarter over Riverside because we were informed that the Alligator Bayou rooms could only be guaranteed for parties of five.

I would recommend calling central reservations to confirm that a bayou room can be guaranteed.

For me personally renting 40 points would not be worth the hassle of booking Riverside and then moving. You might get lucky and get your room early but more than likely not. I would want to be settled in the room where I am going to be for the entire trip.

Not if you book a preferred room. They are all in AB, and therefore all have the murphy bed. It cost a bit more to book preferred, but was worth it to us. Especially after DGS13 shared a story at Christmas about how a cousin complained about his wild sleeping habits during a sleepover. DH's willingness to share a bed for one night evaporated after that story!

Yes, this is one of the things I am struggling with. We've done split stays before. Like the advantage of adding a short use of DxDDP, but don't really like moving. And with the GKs along, it does seem a bit more of a hassle.

But at the very next thought, I struggle with using so many points for just one night, when the cost of a cash stay is significantly cheaper. If we can rent our points out. Thus my dilemma. . .

If you are renting your points for $11 and your room at Riverside is $250 the cost to go ahead and get the room at AKL would be an extra $190. So worth it to me even for one night, to be settled, have your own bedroom with king bed, and have that extra bathroom.

I'm beginning to agree with you, Sammie. The more I think about driving 9-10 hours, checking into POR, getting up in the morning to go to Easter breakfast at Cape May, then clear out of our room at POR but use the pool there until our villa is ready, then move to the villa and set up - all with the GKs in tow - wow, that's a lot of shifting around with kids that we haven't travelled a lot with.

I just know that starting a trip off on the wrong foot, seems to set the mood for the entire trip. Especially since you have shared that one of the grand kids is a teen.

If you are leaving your resort to eat at Cape May anyway, I think if you pack single night bags, it would be doable.

After eating breakfast, and checking out, I would go to Kidani, swim there, settle there until the room is ready.

DH and I would be able to pack single night bags. As would our "second set" of kids, who have been well-trained to do so. I have no confidence that a request for the GKs (from the first set of kids) would work. Their family are just not frequent travelers, and would be confused by such a request.

Since posting this thread, we have waitlisted at Kidani. Wherever we end up for this first night, I'm planning on adding DxDDP. I do like the idea of heading to Kidani's pool; I'll just have to remember to note our unused DxDDP credits when we check into our (hopefully second) stay at Kidani.
