Wait List question/poll

Not an exciting poll with buttons or anything, but I am looking for your experiences - anyone stay on the wait list until 7 days out? If so, how close to your vacation did you get the room you wanted (if at all?). We're currently waiting for the Grand Californian to open up (end of August), and have only been successful for the first day (and only because I called).


Also, is there a time of day that's best to call? Because of our time difference, I can only really call MS towards the end of the day. On the weekends, I can stay up until 1am to call first thing, but I'm not sure what time of day another person would be calling to cancel their room!

We get our wait lists about 30% of the time. Success depends on the type of room, time of year, resort, and luck. If the wait list is administered the way that it is supposed to be, calling should not affect your success.

I did stay on a waitlist up to within 7 days and I think we got it about two to three weeks out.....now we were already booked somewhere else and decided to try for a different resort.

I have never had to waitlist a vacation that I didn't already have booked somewhere else, so I usually don't stay on the waitlist and usually it is for hard to book resorts......

We are on the waitlist for BCV or BWV up to 7 days out on our Oct trip. We are booked at SSR for the week so we know we have a room. I'm hoping it will come thru so we can walk to the F&W Fest. If not, we will manage. I have been calling every couple of days to see if I could get a few days at one of the resorts, they are booked solid.

Yeah, that's the main trouble with the California Villas - the only other options are the Disneyland Hotel and PPH. If we book at either one of those, we cannot use those points for a Villa if one comes up. Quite the dangerous game we are playing!

We are 2 for 2 on waitlist requests. BLT lake view for last august, and BWV standard view for december. In neither case did we call about them; they just came through about a month or two before the respective trips.

We've been DVC members for ten years. I've found it's just a crap shoot. Sometimes we go on the wait list many months out and it comes through, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes we get put on a waitlist a few weeks out and it comes through, sometimes it doesn't. I don't think there's any real way to judge it. I agree with the previous poster who said it comes through about 30 - 40% of the time.
