Inspired by my Wackiest reason you had to call the cops.....

Has anyone ever had the cops called on them for something crazy or that they didn't even do? What was it?

Mine was today with my DH - some old bat (yes, I'm being rude, but she was an old bat - had to be at least 80 years old and a busy-body!!!) called the cops on my DH for leaving his car running. No one ever came to the house... at least not yet!

What about you?

Yes we had an old bat too- in our old house our back neighbors were into their 80's and cranky. (and creepy I found him peaking into our house with binoculars)
Well his wife called the cops on my contractor for making noise past the 8 pm deadline- It was seriously 8:01 and they were trying to get a tarp on the roof as it was unexpectedly raining. They were not hammering - just getting the tarp up.

The cops came spoke to us. I replied he should ask them if they would like me to talk to the police about his extra curricular activities- then surprise surprise no more cops.

And the next day he comes over with a cake!!! Don't mess with the Long Island Girl.

I can't believe I actually have an answer for this.

When I was first dating DH my parents went away for Easter, and we had Easter dinner with my grandparents. When we left that evening, my grandmother told me to make sure I called when I got back to my dorm. Well, I forgot. In no little part because I didn't actually go back to my dorm, I slept over at DH's apartment. The next morning he dropped me off at my dorm, to about 100 phone messages, and the campus police calling me.

Seems when my grandma couldn't get ahold of me she, being the worrying sort, immediately jumped to the conclusion that something horrible had happened to me. So she called the campus police on me. So yes, I had the cops called on me, because I forgot to call my grandma.

LOL

Mine was when I was in college about 7 years ago. I had a project due for a teaching class and had to go to a local arts and crafts store for some modeling clay. When I went to check out, the cashier asked to see my ID. I asked her why she needed to see my ID for buying clay. She said that she needed to check my age because I looked like a high school student that should be in school. :confused3 I showed her my ID and then she called over the manager. She told the manager that I had a fake ID and that I shouldn't be there. At this point, the manager took my ID to look at it and I was very aggreviated. I proceeded to argue with both women because I have never heard of something so ridiculous in my life. I politely asked the manager to give me back my ID since I didn't want to do business with them anymore. She told me "No, and that she was holding onto it until the police got there!" :scared1: At this point, I didn't have any other choice but to wait for the police to come. I couldn't wait to see how this panned out! Finally, the police arrived. Nope, not just 1, not just 2, not just 3, but 4 officers showed up. They listened to the cashier and the manager explain the situation and then they came to me. They asked me what my name was, where I lived, and my birthdate. Then, all 4 officers examined my license. Yup all 4! The one officer holding my license didn't believe that the date of birth was correct so, they asked me to step outside while they ran my license. Yes, they actually ran my license! The manager and cashier were also on hand for this. When they ran the license it showed that the information was correct, so the officers let me go. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything that day and have never set foot back into that store.

It wasn't on me, but I was there so I think it counts!
My boyfriend and I were driving home from the park, and like an idiot, he was swerving (purposely). I didn't think anything of it, because he always does it, and there wasn't anyone around us. Or so I thought!
A few minutes later, when we were close to my house, a cop pulled us over and said someone had called my boyfriend in for drunk driving. And then another couple cops showed up! They searched the car and questioned us. It was so embarassing because it was in broad daylight, right in front of Bush's Chicken, where everybody from our high school worked at the time (this was a few years ago).
They thought our being at the park was suspicious, because a lot of kids in high school go to City Park and get druuuuuunk/high. Well we weren't one of them!

I guess it's not wacky, because if he really had been driving drunk it could have been veeeeeeeeery dangerous, since he can't even drive straight sober! It was just my first (and only) run-in with the cops.

My DH has been pulled over a total of 6 times - during 2 different time periods because he was driving a car that had the same make and model of a convince store robber.

All I have to say is that drinking screwdrivers and skinny dipping off of a front porch that has been turned into a raft in the Susquahana river at two in the morning is not looking on favorably by the authorities.:rolleyes1

Nobody ever called the cops because of me.

When I was very young, some guys knocked a potted plant over in a nightclub and my date attempted to pick it up and re-pot it...he was drunk and you know how drunks try to fix stuff.

We got blamed for knocking it over and were "banned" from the place, whatever that meant...certainly didn't mean anyone remembered us when we returned, lol.

Other than speeding, that's my closest brush with The Law.

It ought to be. Wth. :confused3

When I was about 14 I found a cat and brought it home with me. It was pretty much dead and didn't move around, but one day while I was outside with it, it bit me and ran off!!! So I told my older brother who didn't know what to do so he called 911 and then my mom. About 6 squad cars showed up within a few minutes and they were all searching the neighborhood for the cat because they figured it was rabid. I was then taken to the hospital to be checked for rabies. I never brought home another cat after the lecture I got from everybody.

My stoopid neighbor has called the cops so many times it's not funny. All of his calls have been about my dog. Minky is a big black Standard Poodle. He does bark if someone comes up on the porch or tries to rush our fence and he'll make you think he's going to kill you. I guess the neighbor is afraid of dogs. Every time the dog "mff'd" to come in(not even a real bark) that guy would call the police. One time he even hid in the bushes so he could watch and listen to the police "discipline" us. Except that the cop saw him and ordered him out of our yard.

But the dumbest time he ever called the police was the day my daughter was playing "catch" with a ball in my backyard. He was racing around the yard catching the ball. Never barked once. I was out there with them and saw the whole thing. 20 minutes later there's a cop on my porch. Stoopid neighbor at it again.

To this day whenever Minky is outside one of us is with him. You never know what a kook like this might do and he has vowed to my face to do "what ever I have to to get rid of that dog." We now have a dog lawyer.pirate:

When I was a kid, I 'ran away' to a friend's house and refused to come home. My mother called the cops and had them drag me back to our house.

That is unbelievable!

First, you could have been homeschooled or taken the day off to finish a project, if you were in highschool. And how is that her business?! How completely bizarre!

I think the only time someone called the police on us was when our car was parked onto the sidewalk. Our driveway was short and the sidewalk ran across it. You could not park there without being on the sidewalk. This person called the police twice (different nights) and had the police come to our house at 9 and 11 o'clock at night to tell us it was a violation. The officers were nice both times and basically said, I have to tell you it's a violation, but I understand that you can't do anything about it. My sister in law worked for 911 and she told us who called. It was someone who was active in a different political party than us (my husband is very politically active and pretty well-known in the political community here).

We just had the cops here 2 weeks ago. It seem our busy-body neighbor saw a hit and run accident. It seems a silver mini-van took off like a bat out of h**l down the alley way, turned the corner, hit another car and kept going. Well, we have a silver mini-van and she doesn't like our landlord. Must have been us.

She actually walked up the street to write down our license plate number and called the cops to report that it was DH. She even told the cops where the damage on the van would be. You'd think that while she was taking the time to walk up the street to take the plate down, she would do a quick look for damage. Nope, she already decided it was us.

Do you know how many silver mini-vans there are in any city? Anyway, the cops showed up when DH got home from work, looked at the van, and pretty much laughed at the report.

it seems to me like you should've been able to charge them w/ harrassment or the like. Who were they (not the cops, but the store clerks) to question your age and the legitamacy of your ID? :confused3 When they didn't give it back when you asked for it, that is stealing IMO. It's not like you were using the ID to get into a bar or club. We have tons of homeschoolers around here and quite a few part time H.S. students who work PT or go to college PT. why did they even care?

Okay, here's mine.....
We had these very strange neighbors at our old house. Well one night (I think it was a Thursday night, but I know it was not a weekend), they started beating on our front door at 12 AM. :scared1: It woke up DH, and both of my kids (who had to go to school the next day). I looked thru our peep hole and saw who it was, so I opened the door because I thought he was going to tell us something like their house was on fire and we needed to get out of ours too. Well, he started screaming (and he was VERY hard to understand because he had a terribly thick accent) about a pile of dog crap on his sidwalk. I'm not kidding! Well, I know that his wife is terrified of dogs and I always tried to keep ours away from her and right by my side when I had the dog out and she was out too. I felt like I really went above and beyond so she didn't feel so scared. I know how it feels to be terrified of something. And the people who lived across the street NEVER put their dobie on a leash. I kid you not, NEVER. They stated she was voice trained, which around here is a 'legal' replacement for leashing a dog. It's near impossible to prove a dog isn't voice trained as we (several neighbors) tried to fight it w/ them, but we lost. :sad2: Anyway, DD had a project due the next day, so we had spent HOURS in the basement familyroom on the computer. When the dog needed to go out, I let her out the back door into our fenced yard that night. I KNOW FOR FACT THAT OUR DOG DID NOT CRAP IN THEIR YARD THAT DAY! If I thought there was any chance that it could've been, I would've just picked it up to keep the peace. But when he came over banging on our door in the middle of the night about dog crap, I just decided "IT ain't gonna happen. I'm not picking it up!" Fast forward next morning, they keep stepping over the pile that sits on the sidewalk. Later that night after dark time, I get another knock on the door. This time it's a police officer. Well, he shines his flash light on the 'pile' and asks if it's ours. I very politely tell me the WHOLE story incl their banging on our door in the middle of the night. I also politely comment about what a shame it is to waste taxpayer's money and his time over something so ridiculous. He agrees and thanks me for my time and goes next door and says that they best not come to our door again in the middle of the night and that it's not from our dog. Our word against theirs. and they admitted they didn't see the dog do it, it was there when they came home. A couple of weeks later, they have a video camera set up in the corner of their window constantly taping. I really didn't care as I know I never did anything to purposefully annoy or irritate them. I think eventually the HOA mgt company got on them about the camera because of invasion of privacy w/o proper permits, yadayada.... they really were wierd. I know we are not perfect, but we did try to be neighborly and respectful towards them. We knew that they didn't have any family here in the US. DH even helped the man fix his car as DH was afraid that the guy was going to lose a finger or two the way he was working on the engine. DH didn't ask for or take anything for helping him either. IDK, we tried... :rolleyes1

OH YEAH, and a couple of days later....
Another neighbor asks if there's been a stray running the neighborhood as she was picking up dog poop from her yard. and she knew it wasn't from one of her dogs as it was the wrong size. LOL  I asked her if she could share that info w/ our neighbors. :rolleyes1

I got the cops called on me when I was THREE!! I was staying over at my grandparent's house and I was having a tantrum over something and the neighbor called the police because he (or she) had a noise complaint! I think he/she even asked when I was going to leave!

I didn't think I had an answer to this UNTIL I read the one about getting the cops called on you for not calling.

This is where cell phones can get you in trouble!!! DD & I went to see HSM on ice, we stopped by Rainforest Cafe to have lunch...my mom was watching my youngest. I told her we would be home in a couple hours. NORMALLY my mom always tells me "don't hurry" -- so I never really worry that much about it. However, we were by the Doorway to Dreams place, I stop in & took a tour. My cell phone decided to quit working on me, so I couldn't call my mom to tell her what was going on. My DD didn't bring her cell phone with her & my watch had stopped working (this was previously).

I didn't realize just how much time had passed until we got into the car. I just thought my mom was going to be totally ticked off. I get to her house with a note on the door they had taken the little one home, since I have a key, I went in & called from there. Apparently the police were at my house!!! They were filling out a missing persons report on us.

It was a big old mess. I never in a million years would have thought she would have called the police on us. The fact that she couldn't get me on my cell phone & I had called prior without calling a 2nd time to say we would be longer is what pushed it over the edge.

At least the good news is, I know if something were really TO happen to me, someone would be looking for us. I just now make *VERY* sure to emphasize if I'm not really sure when I'll be home & DD *always* brings her cell phone with her even if I have mine (she figured she didn't need hers that day because I had mine! :) ).

The only time anyone ever called the cops on me, I not only got the cops, but firetrucks, ambulances, the works. I was driving home from work, when the hood of my car all of a sudden popped open. No clue how, just popped right open. Flew back onto my windshield and bent backwards onto the hood of my car.

I managed to get into the shoulder, and the obvious thing is to first try to close the hood. Doesn't close. Next thing I do is call my dad. Dad tells me to close it. Nope, no dice. So he says he'll come pick me up. I'm sitting in my car, waiting for him (rush hour, so it was taking a while) and all of a sudden, sirens come from both directions. They closed one lane in each direction of the highway, the firefighters come out with their pitchforks and axes, ready to dig me out of my car, I guess, and a police officer knocks on my window as I was eating a granola bar. I was so freaked out, I only had my license for less than a year at that point. No clue how to react. Course at that point, my parents show up. The firefighters were looking at my car, saying they had never seen anything like it before. And it turns out, one of the firefighters actually stopped earlier when he was driving to work and saw me stranded on the shoulder. He asked if I was ok and needed any help. Turns out, he answered the 911 call that someone had put in.

Another time, I like to say the cat called the cops on us. We live in a 2 family house, my grandparents are downstairs, we're upstairs. My grandparents have an alarm system installed in their house, with connections on the windows and doors. Well, they were gone, turned the alarm on. Somehow, the cat got to the top of the window and pulled open the alarm, which is connected to the police station. It is silent for a few minutes so we didn't hear it upstairs initially, but once we heard it, we went to turn it off. But the police showed up anyway. When they came, I answered the door, still in my pajama's (it was early) and my lhasso apsa standing behind me, keeping watch. We told them everything was fine, that it was the cat that set off the alarm. So then one of them started asking me about dog training tips. Apparently, he was so impressed with how well behaved my dog was? Whatever, the cat got so scared about the whole thing, he doesn't climb to the top of windows anymore.
