VWL waitlist came through! Advice?

Is there a map available on DIS of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge? I just had my waitlist come through and we will have 4 nights this June. We have never stayed there and we are all VERY excited.

I would like to make a simple room request and was hoping to see a map. Another thread here mentions "close to elevators" as a good request. "Pool View" may be too picky as I remember not too many of the rooms can see the pool (right?) Advice, please, and if someone can tell me if there is a map here somewhere I would appreciate it. I sure don't want the infamous "dumpster view!" Also, do most of the rooms have balconies? It would be great to have one!

Hi, Colleen. Congrats on your VWL ressie! It truly is a great resort. Pictures do NOT do it justice. This thread may answer some of your questions about views. I think all but one villa have balconies. Keep in mind that the fifth floor has vaulted ceilings (very nice), but some may a more 'enclosed' balcony.

I have checked out that wonderful thread and also looked in the Member Guidebook for a general map of the resort. Unfortunately, the dreaded "dumpster view" room is NOT identified in official Disney publications... Where exactly IS the dumpster? It is what I fear most. We sleep late! I would hate to hear "beep beep" at 6am every morning as garbage trucks back up!

I could also not tell where exactly the elevators are, although I would guess thay are close to the end nearer the Lodge itself. I am hoping for a view with woods or pool, not parking lot or buses or dumpster. How do I ask for that?

PS: When I called MS today I didn't even TRY to make a request... not without consulting "the oracle" first!

The dumpster view is all the way down at the end. The closer you get to the end, the easier it will be to see the dumpster (we could hang over our railing and see it, but it was not in plain view). I believe it would be shielded by shrubery & trees if you are on the lower floors. When we stayed on that side of the Villas, we did not hear any noise except a little bus noise ONLY when we were on our balcony.
That being said, my favorite view is on the other side (pool side, but not pool view). Just a pure wilderness (woods and lake) view.

Again, thanks. I have stood by the quiet pool and looked down along the back of the building and that is where I think I would love to be... looking at that gorgeous "wilderness."

We are so thrilled to be going here. We visited in March on a miserable rainy morning and even then the Lodge was so pretty. I don't know who canceled but I owe them a thanks because I am really looking forward to our stay. I like that the Lodge is "weather proof" -- big enough to have fun even if it's nasty outside.

From my notes-Room4533 has no balcony,rooms 4560 and 4562 have the infamous dumpster view,4546 is a handicapped room and even number rooms face the lake.If this doesn't seem right someone who knows better feel free to correct me.This list is taken from other threads I have read here.You will love the lodge!!

Actually it's the odd numbered rooms that face the lake. The even number rooms are on the other side. i've stayed in 1512, 4517 and 4519 in my 3 stays at VWL. All were very convient to the elevators and none had a bad view. 1512, did view the walkway to the Villas and you could hear bus noise on the patio, but it still was nice. These were all one bedrooms by the way. The elevator is located in bwtween the two wings of the villas. I always just request near the elevators, since all of the pool views are located near the elevators, and I don't like a too long walk to my room at the end of the day.

to avoid the "dumpster view", wouldn't it be good enough to request a room on the lake side of the building?

just curious. 'cause that seems like a broad enough request that it wouldn't be impossible to fill.

Thanks, all. I am never disappointed with all the info here! I will call tomorrow and ask for a lakeside room, close to elevators if possible.
