I'll be checking into VWL on NYE, probably around 1PM. What would be my best option for entertainment that day, fireworks etc. My choices extend even unto Universal however resort views would be just fine as well. I'm seeing some kind of bad news on older threads about NYE and I'm hoping for more info. For example one thread sad that last year's EPCOT show was a little sad compared to prior years. I also see that MGM has EMH so that would be a plus except that there isnt too much I consider a must do in MGM any more.

we did it last year, stayed at the VWL, just went to dinner at the Contemporary late, and then watched the fireworks from there! stayed on the main concourse and went outside and up the the outside steps facing the MK, you could hear the music and it was the best fireworks I have ever scene! Another locaiton is the front lawn of the Contemporary! By the road. We are hoping to do it again next year

Clarabelle how crowded were the viewing points at the contemporary? I see so many comments about going to the Poly that I wouldn't be surprised to see the beach packed with people.

It wasn't crowded at all, I think many forget about the outside staircases at the CR!!! We had a late dinner at the Concourse Steak House (it was so-so), and the just hung out at the resort until midnight. We went up maybe 3 floors on the staircase and it was just our group of 6!! On the main landing you were given a glass of champagne, that was a nice touch! not sure if that was a CM or just a guest thing!!

We did Disney Studios the last two NYEs we were there. They had some pretty good bands playing and we had a lot of fun. They had three Fantasmics that night and a real good fireworks show.

Looks like my niece wants to do MGM. It'd be a good choice for us since it is also the EMH park that night. Kind of screws up my ticket plans because Universal has an $85 ticket. However since I asked the parents to budget $150 we probably could do MGM NYE and thereafter Universal. However if she doesn't want to do that then I'll have to buy a multiday pass that's at least six days long and save it for another trip.

I'll be checking into SSR at a similar time (our plane lands shortly after 3pm on 12/31) so faced the same decision... MK apparently fills to capacity early, Epcot is also very crowded, AK doesn't have much special going on... so Studios won out. It helped the decision that it's one of the only times to see fireworks there, which I've never seen in person.

That, and Rock-n-Rollercoaster is closing on the 2nd and we weren't planning on being at the Studios on the 1st, so the 31st will be our only chance to ride it this trip! I'm predicting a very long line... but it sounds like it should be slightly less crowded than MK or Epcot.
