Before I call to add a request onto our VWL ressie I want to confirm something...
There is only one set of elevators at VWL, near the covered walkway towards the bus stop and WL lobby?
There is also a walkway near here towards the boat to MK?
The VWL quiet pool is near the elevators, too?
The infamous trash container view is at the far end from the elevators?
We will only be there for two nights and I'm going with my Mom and my girls.
I want to be close to the action, should I just request near the elevators? We'll be in a studio, ressie says lock-off.
Thanks!

Yep. The elavators are near the door to the covered walkway to the busses and front of the lodge, near the door to the quiet pool and the back of the of the lodge and the boat.

Gee...I've never heard anyone describe any part of VWL as "close to the action"! :p

d-r is right, the elevators are on the end of the VWL nearest the WL lodge.

The only thing is that the walk to the boat dock at WL is not covered. And it is at the far end of the lodge on the other side from the VWL. But it's an easy walk.

I'd just request near the elevators for ease of getting in and out of the Villas.

Edit to add
I found this map that should help. The elevators are right in the spot where the number 24 is on the map. There are no real long walks here...it's a pretty small resort by DVC standards.

Granny- that was my first thought, too, but I figured it was all relative-

Thanks.

So at VWL is it quicker to take the bus or boat to MK?

I wanted close access after our recent experience at AK where we were on the far end of one of the wings. That was a walk!

Does anyone know what the views would be in that section by the elevators? It looks like a quiet pool view, but are there also parking lots views from here pointing towards the bus stop?

Thanks again!

Lask I knew, there was only boat transportation to MK.... has that changed?

No parking lot views at the Villas, except maybe for the highest floors, but even then I think they'd be blocked. The parking isn't across from the Villas, it's actually a little bit to the right. If you face the walkway, you'll see, the walkway and the landscaping around that. You might get some bus noise on your balcony/patio, but won't hear anything if the door is closed.

Edited to add: The only direct transportation to MK is taking the boat. You can take a bus to the TTC and transfer to the monorail.

You can board the Boone Bus from the WL bus depot-- it will stop at Pioneer Hall and the Trailer Loop . To return to WL, be sure to board the Boone Bus. In fact, on E-Nights, this is the only way to get back to the WL at night.
But I highly recommend taking the boat ! Generally quicker (if you don't miss the boat---waits can be 15 min if you just miss one), more relaxing and scenic too ! Also, you can take a boat from the WL over to the Contemporary and then take the monorail into the MK---or walk from the Contemporary if you want to. Red flag boat to the MK and blue flag boat to the Contemporary----I think that's right !

The vast majority of the views at VWL are of the woods, in keeping with its theme. There are quiet pool views, with a partial view of Bay Lake, but not very many of those.

Just don't want you to get too worried about the views. Kind of like the people whose trip seems to be greatly diminished if they don't get a Boardwalk view at BWV.

I'd stick to the "close to the elevators" request, and put down the quiet pool view if you want as well. Though the last time I stayed there, the quiet pool wasn't all that quiet about 10:30 at night with some people in the pool and tub making a little bit of noise.

Good luck!

I agree Granny ! We stayed in the WL last July and had a view of the VWL and the Villas quiet pool----it was darn noisy until about 10-11 pm. From the WL's point of view, this was considered the VWL "courtyard view".
Once the pool cleared out, it was amazing the amount of crickets and frogs we heard ! It was so loud I had to whip-out my camcorder to capture it on tape. Even though the WL critters were kind of noisy, it was nice to fall asleep to.

Maria,

Good point about the crickets...I had almost forgotten how "woodsy" the sounds were at night out on the balcony!

And we did see a deer on morning in the woods on the bus stop side of the villas.

Ahhh...I'm getting homesick now! :)

I've stayed at VWL 4 times and the best room I ever had was a ground floor studio that was immediately to the left as you came in the front door. No waits for the elevator, quick in and out:D

Out of curiosity...
I've seen pics of the VWL mini lobby with sitting area and fireplace...
Is this area by the elevators, too?
Do they ahve the fireplace going in the winter? Christams Tree set up there, too?

yes this is near the elevators - yes to the Christmas tree - no to the fireplace - has anyone ever seen the one at VWL lite?

but the one in the main lobby at WL is definitely going for Christmas -

on the decorations are Christmas are so wonderful at VWL/WL - you will love it!

The had the boat running after e-night this last trip. We went to an e-night May 10 and were shocked and THRILLED that we were able to take the boat back!

You can take the TTC bus and then transfer via monorail or ferry to MK as well as the direct boat to MK.

everything you want is near the elevators. you can't go wrong w/ a request to be near the elevators! that's the most important request IMHO.

keep in mind though, that VWL is very small, and there are only 20 dedicated studios + 45 lockoff studios in the resort.
so it's harder for the room assigners to grant requests at VWL. (we didn't get ours)

we also requested to be near the elevators. when we checked in at noon, they didn't have our room ready yet.
when we called back at 4pm, they gave us our room#: 4563. the absolute LAST room down the hallway, furthest from the elevator. the room# rung a bell when i was on the phone w/ them and my suspicion was confirmed when we finally trudged all 200 paces (yes i counted. i'm 5'1" though, so maybe it's slightly less paces for someone tall) down the hallway to our room.
hey, at least it wasn't the dumpster room (that was across the hall), even though at first i totally thought "oh great, our first stay at VWL and i got the dumpster room" :p .

i walked all the way back down to the lobby to ask if we could change rooms, but the only other studio they had available was one on the first floor that was still at the end of the hall. so we kept our original room.

so there is one long walk at VWL, and that's if you're staying in the room at the end of the hall. LOL.

good luck.

DH and I just got back from WLV last week. It was our first DVC visit and we had room 2562...got the long walk and the special view :-). We very much enjoyed our visit, though. When sitting on the balcony the trees blocked a good portion of the service area so it didn't really bother us much. And walking that long hall contributed to the exercise I needed to be able to eat great lunches and dinners each day and not gain a pound...at least, that's what I reminded myself of at the end of long days when I turned the corner and saw just how far we still had to walk :-).

MrsToad, I was across the hall from you in 2560 last week, checked out on 6/6. It was indeed a long walk, but I also needed the exercise. Did you wear a lime green ribbon? I had one on my purse but didn't see anyone else with one.

Lenshanem, don't worry about the dumpster view. I had it and it didn't bother me at all. I was only in the room to sleep and if I looked to the right instead of straight ahead, I had a great view of the Villas and a glimpse of the Main Lodge and the landscaping was very soothing. I also didn't hear any noise in the area. I had a dedicated studio - smoking optional - also not as bad as I thought it would be. I requested non-smoking, but when I checked in nothing else was available. I made my ressies in March, so I guess I was lucky to even get a room.
