VWL add on

I realize that I'm slow in understanding use year and banking points but someone help me. I called MS to ask about adding on 50 points at VWL. If we buy now I was told I would need to use the 50 points by Jan 31 or lose all the points. I was told that we could only bank 25 pts because we're in the 25% timeframe. We currently have 40 points already banked from 2001. It seems to me that I would be foolish to buy and waste the 50 points because we won't be able to swing a trip by Jan 2002. Would it pay for us to wait until Jan. 1,2002 and hope that VWL still has points available? I hope I made my self clear in my question. Help!

Did you try calling your guide to ask them instead of member services? I don't know for sure but I thought that when buying points they would bank them for you. Doesn't make much sense to me that they would make you loose or use your points that would drive buyers away.

Nope, the guide does not help, at least mine did not. We were in the same situation. They were very unflexible on this point.

But the good news is, I sold them on these boards!

What you were told is correct. When adding on points you are given your same use year and then must adhere to what your banking guidlines are. When we added on last time, we had to be extra dilligent in making sure our points were banked since we were very close to our banking deadline at our closing. Also, they won't automatically bank your points for you, you must call MS and do it yourself. They only do that for purchases, as mu guide explained to me. Waiting until Jan 2002, won't make a difference, since you'll still be receiving the same points, just won't have time to bank them, since you'll be past your banking deadline, unless you have a Feb use year, thus you'd receive Feb 2002 points. What about using magical beginnings, since you won't be able to use the points. I believe you have to have a min of 50 points for MB, and that way you get a price break, and don't have to worry about the points being expired.

I did want to use the Magical Beginnings but was told I needed to buy 100 pts.

We just did an add on of 50 at VWL and were able to use Magical Beginnings........also something about not putting through the paperwork now but closer to the start of our use year (Dec.), not sure if I understood that correctly.

We closed on 70 points this past mid July. Our use year is August, and yes, we lost them all. I tried to do a quick last minute trip but, could not swing it.

Not to stir the pot here, but when we did an add-on, we had the same issue. I contacted my guide and asked if I could bank all of the add-on points even though I was out of my window. I informed him that we still had points remaining for this year and it would not be possible to use them all, though I wished. He said he would get our points banked for us. When the closing date approached, he would resolve the issue with MS.

I asked if it was considered a "once in a lifetime bank" and he said NO.

We didn't need to go that route because we chose to use the MBs instead.

hi: they were rather accomodating when bwv sold out last year. i added 150 points in oct or nov of 2000. our use year is december for both contracts. our guide was able to bank our points for us because there was no way we could have used them. ask your guide to double check with a supervisor; it seems a fair amount of people had this problem last year and dvc/ms helped out.

Geeeeesh. I guess GIB was not as helpful as he could have been.

Good information to know. An accommodating guide would have been nice.

It worked out for us, but it was a hassle.

Do your add-ons have to have the same use year as your original contract?

Can you add on 150 points with a different use year? If you do then do your run into problems moving points back and forth from one contract to the next?

We are thinking about adding on and with a March use year, we dont want to loose out of potential magical beginnings. Can you use magical beginnings for all your points if you meet the minimum and your purchase is close to your use year?
