So, we met with our officiant yesterday for our legal home ceremony. He sent us an outline for the ceremony, but there is a lot that needs to be changed. When I surf the net I'm not finding anything that is really over the top. I did find some that were like Dr. Seuss wrote them..they were funny...I'd like something a bit more traditional...and the officiants service is a bit...stuffy.

So, the question of the day is...Where did you get the wording for your vows?
I have the Jack Pack for our Disney wedding...but there are only pieces and parts that I like from that...enough from each that it would make one ceremony...but ..I know I know...I don't want to duplicate the services.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Hey hun,

I wrote my own. I thought about why Tim was importnt to me, why I wanted to marry him and how I felt. This is what I have:

From the first moment we met, I knew we would be together. I knew I had found the person I would be with for the rest of my life and knew then I would hate to lose you. I have no idea of the day, the date or even the year that we met but straight away we talked about getting married and about 12 years later (or however long!) here we are, getting married at our favourite place on Earth. Through trials and tribulations we have come through, always there for each other with love and support. I love you for not only who you are but for the person I am when we are together. I have loved and treasured every second that we have been together. I feel honoured to have you in my life and in my family and can’t wait to grow old with you as your Mrs.

Tim, today I take you for my husband. I give you my hand, my heart, and my unconditional love. I promise to love and cherish you, no matter what lies before us, for all of our days. You are my best friend, my soul-mate, my completer, and I will love and respect you always.

Tim (typical man) has yet to write his!

Aww thats lovely. Will you be reading that out, or will the officiant?

I have written our ceremony out and used bits off the internet and things i liked the sound of. Was considering writing our own vows and reading them to each other but i get really nervous reading things out. x

Alex that is beautiful!
I'm not sure that we are writing our own...Maybe we should...after I get done with the exam on the 7th...:wizard:

I did some research on the Internet when we were writing our vows and came across a pretty simple outline to use as a starting-off point. Basically, you're just describing what you love about your partner and what you promise to do:

Opening: I, _______, take/choose you, _______, to be/as my______.

Middle: Describe what you love about your partner and what you two will accomplish together.

Pledge: What you promise to do for your partner.

This website has lots of helpful info for writing your vows together or separately, along with sample and "starter" vows: http://www.brilliantweddingpages.com/Couples/weddingvows.asp

Thank you very much for your comments :goodvibes

I'm going to read my vows. I'm used to speaking in public so it won't bother me at all. I'm going to have them written down in case I get a mental block and might store them a la Carrie (down the top of my dress) but there's not a lot of room!

:rotfl: Yeah, I had room for multiple sets of vows in there.... :rotfl2:

Just an update...DF and I have discussed vows...and have come up with something a bit non-conventional. I'll post them at a later date as they are still in the making.
We both have agreed that our legal wedding needs to be fun...NOT your typical Do you take you to be...blah blah blah. That is the way we want our Disney wedding to be...elegant...dreamy even. But for this wedding the thought of coming up with similar vows that we want to say at our Disney wedding-which we both decided is where our emotional vows will come into play was just daunting. No fun.
My mom has made a big stink that we need to say the traditional vows. Honestly, they aren't HER vows. They are ours. So, our little surprise exchange is not going to be made public. (Luckily, she isn't savy enough to get onto Dis...and even if she is she doesn't know my log in name) So, by the time we say them, she won't have anyway to stop it. :3dglasses
