Early Check-in: Normal check-in to a DVC Resort is 4:00 pm. An early check-in would be the ability to go to your room before 4:00 pm on your day of arrival.

Special Room Requests Met: Special requests would include items such as: Smoking or Non-smoking, Handicap Accessible or not Handicap Accessible, Near the elevators, Specific floor assignment, or Specific view.

I would much rather wait for my room to be ready and get a room with the view/floor I want.

Since dear husband uses a power wheelchair we have to have an accessible room and we strongly prefer non-smoking!

However it sure was nice when our room at HH last week was ready right after lunch !!!

Since mine are medically related: non-smoking, first floor or near elevator and near bus stop or main building they trump early check-in.

Since DVC makes it so easy to check in and hold your bags...I've got to go with the room requests as the priority.

I guess the problems start when someone demands both when they check in!

It seems more fair to all members to assign rooms by date of reservation. We usually get there around 3:00 so if they went by first come, first served we would never get what we want even though we may have made the reservation at 11 months at our home resort.

I chose special requests. We usually drive in, and arrive at about 5 or 6. I usually only request non-smoking. As long as I get the size room I booked and non-smoking, I am happy. I guess I am easy!:D

Hmmm...I like early check-in when I arrive early, but I also like having a pre-assigned room that meets my requests if I arrive late. And IMO medical needs should always "trump" requests of convenience or preference.

I guess I'd vote for pre-assigned rooms, with the understanding that IF the resort was not fully booked, you could get an early arrival into a ready room.

Optimally, if the resort isn't full, the guest should be given the option of "we have this available now, or you could wait for a room that more closely meets your requests."

I voted wait but my requests are usually very simple. Non smoking and NOT a HC room is usually all that I request. If we have more than one unit, I would like them relatively close together. The fact is if I can't get the two above requests, I'd much rather not go and just stay home.

Has check in changed? I thought it was 4pm?

After not getting my request of top floor this past July, I will most definetly wait for that request!!!

Having had loud people above me for nearly 2 weeks wasn't too pleasant!!!

As someone said before, "The joys of condo living". Which is new to me. It felt, as times, like dorm living..........

No, "official" check-in time is still after 4 pm, but sometime folks get lucky when they arrive early. Sometimes they've had a room available, sometimes we've had to wait until after 4.

The only request we ever make is non-smoking.

I much prefer my room to be ready when I arrive.

This trip we got BOTH! I am so pleased my requests were met - top floor, nice view.. (for the hundredth time - we have no kids on this trip - which also means no wheelchair - so we can use STEPS!!)

I would have happily waited for the room. It was ready at 1:00 PM - we checked in on Sunday.

OH - time to go to the pool, I hope every darn chair isn't 'reserved'.

This time when we checked in at 9:15 on July 3 after our Wonder cruise, I had requested a water/pool view, since last year we had the last room in the hall on the 5th floor of VWL last summer--not OVER the dumpster, but close to it.
Well I went back to our luggage to get my DVC card and when I came back DH said "our room is ready"--the CM had said it was not ready, but suddenly one was--was it a pool view? No, it was the exact same room two floors down--the last one in the hall on the 3rd floor.
I'm sure she thought she was doing us a favor and DH didn't see what all the fuss was about, but heck I already had our bags in the bag room and didn't care, I was ready to head to MK. I would much rather have waited.

I have never gotten anything I've requested. In fact, I usually get the OPPOSITE (this is not counting non smoking, we have always gotten that). The one time i requested top floor because i heard that was the thing to request, i got 2nd floor. Then I decided I liked the location and requested 2nd floor... guess where we got put? top floor. I requested BW view a couple of times and got canal view. Finally I decided to request canal view if i had to take a preferred view and guess what I got? Overlooking the village green! OY! Same thing at OKW, I always got the opposite of what I requested. Now I just request "non smoking" and let the rest take care of itself. The worst room at WDW is better than the best room at home!
