All out trip to celebrate our first anniversary

Monday, 11/12/01

Something about being in WDW forces me up early. I am up at the crack of dawn sitting out on the balcony and gazing at the wonder that is the Magic Kingdom. Still not able to get a handle on the giddiness I feel just being here, I jumped on the bed to wake DH up to enjoy the morning view. We went down to the Concourse Steakhouse to get some breakfast, they had the most wonderful Eggs Benedict! We refilled our mugs downstairs, gathered our belongings and got on the bus to MGM. We were surprised to find that the Contemporary shares it’s buses with the Ticket and Transportation Center. That was fine in the mornings, but coming back from places it made for some pretty crowded trips! Fortunately, this turned out to be one of DH’s few complaints during the week. We had a good time at MGM – managed to do RnRC, ToT, the Great Movie Ride, and a couple rounds of Millionaire. DH and I were both in the top 10 every round, and during our second game I was in second place – just barely missed the hotseat! We really meant to try our luck a few more times during the week, but alas, it wasn’t to be. At this point we headed back to the hotel for a break and a snack because DH’s hip was still hurting him and he was having problems walking. Pixie dust in our room again! When we opened the door, we found Happy Anniversary balloons tied to a box that contained a small photo album and an autographed photo of Mickey and Minnie wishing us the happiest of anniversaries! We went back to Epcot later in the evening, managed to ride Maelstrom, see Tapestry of Dreams, interact with one of the statues in France (a real, HOW DO THEY DO THAT? moment for DH!) and finally headed over to the Rose and Crown for our 7:20 priority seating. The place was mobbed! Rude people pushing their way to the counter demanding outside seating. I took our palm pilot pager (really good idea – we sat and learned about England while awaiting our table) and hoped for the best. We got the outside seating we requested, but couldn’t see the fireworks because we were under the awning. I did realize halfway through the show that I should have been standing behind our table the whole time – we were on the edge of the patio, and were able to look out from underneath to see everything. Next time I’ll know. The food was okay here – the wild mushroom appetizer I had was fabulous, the pie sampler merely okay and much too much food for me to eat by myself. DH had the prime rib and yorkshire pudding, which he enjoyed immensly. My favorite part of the meal (aside from the yummy lemon confit I had for dessert) was the beer sampler I ordered – 6 5oz samples for $9.95. A bargain (since I am definitely not a Budweiser girl, no matter how I enjoyed their pavilion at Sea World)! When the show was finished, we settled our bill and took our time to getting back to the Monorail. This gave DH chances to rest, and me time to enjoy the awesome fountain show going on. We finally headed back to the room and happily collapsed for the night.

How neat, more Disney magic. What a great surprise for you :)

Thanks for the tip about the outside seating at R&C...watch out for the awning ;)

I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of your trip. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
