WOW! After McCain, Rudy, and Arnold I did not think this Convention could get any better. Well it just did. Best speech yet.

Had a friend just call screaming at the top of his lungs that it was the best speech he's ever heard.

I literally hit the ground laughing when he put out the line about spitballs!

Wait...I was interupted posting this. My mother just called me and said that Miller's speech switched her from undecided to Bush, she will be voting for the first time in her 42 years of life.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!:bounce: :smooth: :jester: :Pinkbounc    :earseek: :earsboy: :teeth: :hyper:

The start of his speech was full of passion and very appealing to Veterans. Miller's description of each weapon program that Kerry has voted against was damaging to Kerry's campaign. Like you said, the spitball comment was funny. Maybe he should switch parties, because the crowd loved him.

The spitballs comment was a CLASSIC!!!
I was literally LOL while I was driving home from football practice. Even Cam (9) thought it was hilarious!

He was on tonight! Good for him.

I laughed. I cried. It was better than Cats. I'll see it again and again. ;)

I missed the speech, but he and Chris Matthews are going at it pretty good on MSNBC right now. .

I'll withold comment until seeing the speech later on C-Span but I think Miller has mental problems. . he just said he wished he could challenge Matthews to a duel. . and he was serious.

Mental problems? Good try.

He was DEAD ON! OMG! Going through all of the weapons that Kerry opposed... and then laying out how we've actually used each of those weapons in the War on Terror and in the Gulf War (as they all passed without his vote). That was hugely damaging.

But the comment from Cheney:

"You can make bad decisions in the Senate for 20 years and it not damage the United States... however as the Commander in Chief it's a different story." Something to that effect... again very damaging.

Again slam dunk tonight. And again I will state that I smell a landslide. ::yes::

Thanks for the laugh.:D

Jon Stewart had an interesting comment to make last night about Republicans and musical theatre. You two must be kindred spirits.;)

Miller's speech redefined the term "ripped him a new one!" Wow!

I was dying to hear what the talking heads afterwards were going to say about it. Mara Liasson was skeptical of the speech and thought it had the potential of the public reacting to it like Dean's "Scream" speech. Ms. Liasson's hopes may not pan out... I flipped over to MSNBC and they did a remote to a location in the battle-ground state of Ohio and got the reactions of 17 "undecided" voters. They overwhelming thought Miller's speech was very powerful, heartfelt, and was a whole lot more meaningful coming from someone with a "D" after name. 11 of the 17 people in the focus group said after tonight's speeches that they were more likely to vote for Bush. It ain't over yet, but... wow!

Holy Cow!!! I nearly wet myself over the spitball part!!

If any of you Dems need extra duct tape, just let me know. I'll send it free of charge.

They're replaying Cheney on CSPAN now. I'm sure they'll show Miller's again sometime tonight or tomorrow. Incredible.

The "spitballs" line will go down as a classic

Our friends from on the left will have a field day with tonights speeches. Enjoy it while you can.

Here are some of the things Matthews tried to ask Miller about while the good Senator flipped out . .

In a 2001 speech, Miller called John Kerry "one of this nation's authentic heroes, one of this party's best-known and greatest leaders – and a good friend." He said, "John Kerry has fought against government waste and worked hard to bring some accountability to Washington…He fought for balanced budgets before it was considered politically correct for Democrats to do so. John has worked to strengthen our military, reform public education, boost the economy and protect the environment."

In a speech on 2/25/96, Miller said: "Republicans sold us out with a generation of trickle-down economics that blew the deficit sky-high, drove poverty through the roof, and squeezed the middle class like a lemon at a county fair. They gave themselves the goldmine, and "Republicans sold us out with a generation of trickle-down economics that blew the deficit sky-high, drove poverty through the roof, and squeezed the middle class like a lemon at a county fair. They gave themselves the goldmine, and they gave the rest of us the shaft."

In 2000, Miller said he "supports protecting Social Security and paying down federal debt as higher priorities than tax cuts." He also stated, "I think the best tax cut we could give to our children is to use the budget surplus to pay down the national debt." [Sources: Florida Times-Union, 11/5/2000; Macon Telegraph, 10/30/2000]

As a congressional candidate in 1964, Miller not only pledged to vote against the Civil Rights Act, he attacked those who were pushing it. He said President Lyndon Johnson "is a southerner who has sold his birthright for a mess of dark porridge." As Georgia history professor James Cobb said, "Had he lived and run again, Kennedy would not have benefited in Georgia from the opposition to the Civil Rights Act voiced by a certain congressional candidate in 1964, Zell Miller. "

This past May Miller gave a speech claiming, "With John Kerry on national security, it's vacillate, retreat and turn over to the U.N. With John Kerry on domestic policy, it's tax, spend and redistribute income."

He called Kerry's Senate voting record on national security "shameful," even though Kerry has cast the exact same votes on intelligence funding as Miller. [Source: AP, 5/15/04; Senate Votes, 12/06/00; 12/13/01; 9/25/02; 11/21/03]

I think 'ol Zell better find a less psychotic way to deal with these questions then he did tonight or duck out of site for awhile. . threatening to shoot Chris Matthews isn't going to upset a lot of people, but Katie Couric is pretty popular and acting the same way with her might cause some problems. . ;)

:hyper:

I think that his speech could have been one of the most powerful speeches of the convention mainly because he is from the other side. He was on Sean Hanity the other day and said that he would never change parties something about he would die a Dem but that his party has left him. That there isn't a place in the Dem party for a moderate right now. He is hoping that the party comes back in his direction soon.

Watch for Tommy Franks tonight. He is another really good speaker. Very plain spoken.

With the exception of the twins the convention has been very good showing a good cross section of the party.
