Vittles A Go-Go: Hicks on Holiday - Update 2/14/09, pg 18 COMPLETE!

I'm loving your reviews! I'm so glad to see you can do WDW with so many kids. We only have 2 right now, but we're wanting to add at least 2 more. :goodvibes We'll be going to H&V too. We were going to lunch, but I changed it to dinner after your review. I figure, how can you mess up breakfast? Breakfast is breakfast. :confused3 Hopefully it will be better than lunch is.
Your DH face at H&V is priceless. :lmao: I'm proud of him letting you take pics of all of your food. My husband is refusing right now. We'll see if he'll come around. When we got married he told he he'd only go to WDW once every 3 years. Now we're going 2 times a year, so maybe he'll change his mind about the food too. ;)

I present to you the post that was going to be "More Pop, because we can..." But is now entitled:

"Nuggets in the Wild"
Restaurantasauras (aka McDonald's) in Animal Kingdom's Dinoland
9/20/07 (?)

I had originally planned on reviewing our dinner at Pop Century,
which we had in place of a CS I had planned at the park formerly known as MGM.
We were too hot, cranky and tired to wait around for Fantasmic, so we headed back early to the resort.
Unfortunately, I can't find my pile of receipts to tell you what we ate there.
:confused3

So, instead, we are moving along to our next day at Animal Kingdom.

Up until now, the Hicks had been pretty adventurous in their eating, all in all.
Usually we avoid food that we can get at home.

But, in honor of my picky nephew, Stitch Jr.,
I decided to make an exception and schedule in a stop at
Restaurantasauras for some WDW-ized Mickey D's.

This restaurant is located in Dinoland, sort of across from the entrance to the dinosaur ride.

We had only been to this restaurant before for their now defunct character breakfast.
We've always really liked the dinosaur decor,
but the service and the food had really gone down hill at breakfast. :(

We found a couple of tables to push together,
and got everyone situated,
and went up in shifts to order.

The line was horrible, and the wait was longer than I like,
but still not too bad.
The real McDs is waaaaay faster, and that's saying something.
:rolleyes1

Our orders were taken without complication,
and we managed to wind our way back to our tables.

I believe John had his ever present cheeseburger,
but most of us had good ole McD's Chicken nuggets,
along with fries and a drink.
:drinking1

I have to say, they hit the spot.
:woohoo:

I have always been a fan of the chicken nuggets,
and something about all the fancy food we had been eating
made them really taste good.

The kids had gotten theirs in happy meals
which included a dinosaur squirt gun, which was a big hit!

For dessert we had (I think) strawberry shortcakes, brownies, and mini-cookies (in the happy meals.)
I remember the desserts were really good.

All in all, this meal turned out to be a good choice,
and if it were not for all the people wandering around looking for seats
and ready to pounce every time we twitched,
it would have been even better.

I was surprised it was so good, and I would recommend this to anyone that wants a taste of something familiar.

Try to hit it earlier or later than noon,
which is where we messed up, I believe.

Maybe not the most exotic use of a Dining Plan CS credit,
but it was filling and good, and,
at the end of the day,
isn't that what you really want in a meal? :thumbsup2

I'm glad to see you're still doing reviews!

We've never been to Restaurantasaurus (sp??), but I recently read that they are moving away from McDonalds food and are now serving the WDW kind of chicken nuggets instead of McD's nuggets. I wonder if there will be a total switchover to WDW food here instead of McD food? :confused3 I'm going to keep an eye on the menu for upcoming changes.

Thanks again for the review! :woohoo:

I can't decide if that's a good thing, or a bad thing.
I like them both (well, I haven't tried the replacement nuggets, but I liked the WDW chkn fingers.)
But it was kind of a novelty to order McD's nuggets there.

Hmmm...

Anyway, nice to see you...thanks for reading!!! :wizard:

Thanks for picking up on your reviews again, I am so enjoying them. I didn't realise there was a restaurant where you could get McDs food in AK, gotta love chicken nuggets.

Laur's princess:

You're a fan of McD's Chicken nuggets, huh? Hmmm....doesn't take much to please you. :rotfl:

We went to McD's at Epcot (we weren't doing countries that day). We searched far and wide for it because it looked like a huge building on the map. Then, we get there and all they serve is chicken nuggets and fries! NO burgers!! I was UN-pleased. I ate fries for lunch that day. :thumbsup2

Thanks!
I'm trying to remind myself that I don't have to do long reports, just smaller chunks, and it's still ok.

I should have mentioned that -- the burger John had was NOT McDs. It was WDW's standard burger.
It is true they only do nuggets and fries, and there is rumors that the AK stand will not be continuing the nuggets, at least.

Thanks for reading!

and, lo and behold, you're chatting with my favorite Disser, Linda, aka Slightly Goofy!!! I met her at the glow party last year (and seemingly every day after that) but I am sorry to say I don't remember if you and I met. Love the food reviews! We have similar tastes in restaurants. We also loved Le Cellier and Liberty Tree Tavern (DD's 2 requests for this years free food trip) and are not returning to H & V. As everyone here already knows, your kids are adorable. I miss that age(s) and am now patiently waiting for weddings and grandchildren!!

Linda and I are having dinner together in Sept. DH thinks we're all nuts and, ok, maybe he's not wrong.

Hope more reviews are still coming & I'm off the the trips board to read your review there!!

Pooch, how flattering. I enjoyed you a bunch too. MomOfMany, is a fantastic person and has raised the most delightful children, at least the half dozen or so I met. :rotfl: I believe that you probably met as I remember meeting you both. ;)

A small glitch in my life right now as I have just been diagnosed with heart disease. I am thrilled that they found it before I had a heart attack and also I sure would hate to feel so badly and NOT be sick. I think I have been sick since last year. I am hoping they can get me all fixed up so that I can enjoy THIS September and run you all ragged!!

Welcome Pooch! We probably did meet, but I'm not good with names, so forgive me for that! :)

I'm a big fan of Linda also. :goodvibes
I hope you do get to have dinner with her, that would be fun.

Linda - praying they get you all fixed up. My MIL is having open heart surgery to repair a leaky valve on June 13. We would like to get her well enough to go with us to WDW in the future.

Thanks for reading!

Howdy there, momofthemasses (you do know I am kidding with you as I am the oldest of 8 myself)?:rotfl:

Just finished with bunches of tests and am back home, worn out and much, much poorer. The really important tests came back good so maybe your mil and I can hang out and share our coumadin on a future trip and compare notes? :thumbsup2 I have put her on my 'list' and will be thinking of her on the 13th. I know she will have great care and recover quickly!:lovestruc

Hey SG, hope you start to feel better soon. You're in my thoughts!

Hey there Oybolshoi!

Thanks, I will be alright. The first step is always in defining the problem and after that it goes a lot easier. I appreciate your good thoughts and here are some going back at YOU!

I realized I never posted a tease for my next update!

I guess that's because I can't think of a title!

So I'm going to call it:
The Hicks Go to Chef Mickey's, There Was a Really Big, Really Cool Thunderstorm, and Then There Was That Incident Involving a Really, Really Big Mouse....

Later!

I just found your foodie trip report and am enjoying it so much!! I have enjoyed seeing your children, they are all so cute!!
Looking forward to more!!

Stop the presses:
DisneyGirl and the Chef say that I have forgotten some important elements of this meal.

The Chef says that I forgot to mention he had a bacon cheeseburger.
He was pretty excited about having adult credits this trip,
and made full use of them,
getting the biggest portions his exceptionally skinny frame could handle.

DisneyGirl says that I have conveniently forgotten
that we forgot to have her go up and get her meal with one of us.

A lot of times I would go up and get the little kids meals with my own,
and DG and the Chef would go up with John.

Well, somehow in all the Chaos of Restaurantasauras,
poor DG got left out of the ordering process,
and as we all sat down with our meals and started eating,
she, just getting back from the bathroom,
had to just then get in the longer (and longer) line to order.

Then, she claims, we all sat around and stared at her while she ate.

I have no memory of this,
but it would explain why crazy-eyed tourists
kept hovering over us at the end of our meal.

They probably wondered why we were still sitting there
even though we were done eating.

Ok, so in the interest of truth, there it is.

You now know "the rest of the story." LOL

More later!

Love reading your report!!

I'll have to check my ADR's for this September, but I am almost positive that I booked the Disney Play N Dine at MGM. I wasn't too excited about booking it, so I can't remember if I actually did or not. Sounds like I may need to make SURE that I DO NOT have it for our meal there.

What did the baby eat? We will be taking our DS1 and they told me that he could eat from our plates, buffets, etc.. But at the buffet, can I get him a plate of his own? I figure we'll end up buying all of his meals, b/c most of the time, I can't feed him what we have b/c it's too spicy, or hard to chew, etc..

They said I could buy him a DDP package, but I'd have to get him a ticket too. Well, that's a lot of $$$ for a 1 YEAR OLD, so I'll just purchase his meals. It's the least that I can do, since the rest of us are dining for free!!
