Vittles A Go-Go: Hicks on Holiday - Update 2/14/09, pg 18 COMPLETE!

Mom of five plus one that you keep forgetting, poor child is destined to grow up and take it out on society. :rotfl:

I had a veggie wrap at Cosmic Ray's? that was just plain nasty. Would have been better with a big chunk of meat though. :rotfl2: Cheese too. Cheese and chocolate cover a multitude of sins.

BTW, I done tole ya to book the bounce back. What was the worst thing that would have happened? You could have canceled later. Did you think I would steer you wrong? :thumbsup2

Back to my paperwork. Lots of writing tonight and not a darn thing about Disney. Poor me!!

Your reviews are great! :cheer2: I'm looking forward to reading more about your food adventures!

Cosmic Ray's sounds good your wrap was huge!!!!

It was huge. I didn't want a burger, as that's usually the last thing that appeals to me at WDW. I really liked it!

Thanks for these, I kept checking for updates :)

Thanks for sticking with me! [JBJ sures looks good for an old man, doesn' he? LOL I can only say "old" because I know he's older than me! Yikes!]

Mom of five plus one that you keep forgetting, poor child is destined to grow up and take it out on society. :rotfl:

Actually it's five plus TWO I keep forgetting. Which two? It depends on the day. One of them is on Santa's naughty list consistantly this week. :sad2:

I tend to avoid vegetarian entrees, for the most part, because they tend to have ingredients I don't like. But the turkey wrap was tasty!

I know, I know. There is really NO way we are going back then. But don't think I didn't consider it! I think it's a miracle that he's changed his mind from "three years from now" to "pay off the cc and we'll plan it." He probably thinks it will take me three years to do it.
I guess he forgets who he has been married to for 16 years! If there is there are two things I excell at, it's saving money AND getting my family to WDW.
Maybe HE is looking forward to going back?

Your reviews are great! :cheer2: I'm looking forward to reading more about your food adventures!

Hey Kelly! How's it going? I haven't been over to our "other" board to see how everyone is doing. Not enough time in a day. Sigh.
Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Sarah, we excel at the same things--saving $ and going to WDW. It's a good thing those 2 activities go together. : ) Right now I'm concentrating hard on making the change in our Disney Jar increase as much as possible. :thumbsup2 Last week I did a Happy Dance at the mall because I found a penny in the parking lot. :lmao:

If you happen to swing it for next year, we'll be at ASMu in early Sept. I am hoping for free dining!! I don't know if it'll be offered, though. I'm trying to not get my hopes high just in case. I love pouring over the food pictures on the Dis Boards and fantasizing that maybe we can have that food for free! Please keep the reviews and pictures coming when you have time!

Let me tell ya, when you are as carb deprived as I a hamburger tastes like heaven. :thumbsup2 I prefer to eat 'different' stuff though, things I do not cook better at home. No pot roast for this gal.

DM5, now you done got two kids who will go wild cause not only their mommy dearest neglects them but imperfect strangers forget they exist too. I am sorry, I am sorry. :guilty:

See, I told you. Meat makes things taste better. Bet it had cheese too! :rotfl:

I finally finished the application. I was so happy because I only had to make one minor correction (a misplaced comma) on one recommendation letter. It was written by the English teacher. I am happy. We shall not mention what some of the others did. Do not start looking closely at my emails cause they have no relation to real life. :lmao:

I'm tempted to start a Disney jar right now, but all the spare change is going to Christmas.
I have been curious about the All Stars, but I really love Pop Century. Someday maybe. :)
I hope you get free dining too! It really is amazing.

great reviews & photos

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

Give Me Liberty (Tree Tavern) or (I'll Starve to) Death...

9/18/07 - Magic Kingdom -
Liberty Tree Tavern "Liberate Your Appetite Character Dinner."
[Whew! That's a LONG name. LOL]

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this report!

Anyhow...When we last left the hungry hicks, they had taken a trip to the future, the future of food, at Cosmic Ray's.

We had eaten an early lunch in anticipation of our 4:30 pm ressie for dinner at LTT.

When planning this trip, I had read many differing opinions about this restaurant.

Some labeled it their best meal ever, must do every trip, favorite character meal.

Some called it a glorified tv dinner.

Most agreed it was quieter than, say, Chef Mickey's,
and that the character interaction is good.

I wanted some variety in our meals,
as well as some that were not buffets,
and needed one that was located in MK.
So I decided to give LTT a chance.

We reported a few minutes early for our ADR, and were told to take a seat in the waiting area.

This area is decorated in wood, in colonial style, with a big fireplace.

There was not enough seating for us all, but we made do by utilizing the floor. ;)

At LTT they seat you by announcing "The Hick family from Michigan."

It's pretty cool, but wasn't as great as it could have been,
since I only gave them one last name, not all three.

The rest of our group didn't seem to mind, but I kind of wish I would have asked them to call all three last names.

We were seated at two large round tables next to each other,
right next to the waiting area, with windows facing the street.

It was a great spot.
Not too far from the kitchen, not too far from the exit, not too far from the bathroom (which will be important later.)

The hostess informed us that the chef would be right out to talk to us about our special dietary needs (allergies) and then they would begin serving us.

Our waitress showed up immediately after to take drink orders,
served in lovely LTT glass mugs,
followed quickly by the chef.

I was absolutely delighted at the attention they gave my two allergic kids.

We were informed that they could bring GF rolls for them, as well as separately plated platters of the GF foods.
(I believe it was the meats, potatoes, and veggies, NO stuffing.)

They also would also bring them each a gravy boat of GF gravy.

The meal started out with yummy rolls, w/, I believe, honey butter,
and a strawberry vinagrette salad.

The allergic kids got SEVERAL tasty looking GF rolls each.

The characters were quick to follow the food.

In attendance that night were Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Chip and Dale, all in Colonial garb.

Princess K w/ Minnie - whose dress was fabulous!

The character interaction was fantastic and we saw each character several times.

Stitch Jr. and Poch Jr. w/ Goofy

Princess K w/ Chip (check out the chocolate chip nose!)

Danger Boy, the Inquisitor, and Dale (He has a red nose)

IMG_0277.jpg

Our hot food arrived, and Bitsy, one of our allergic kids,
got a platter of food almost as big as the one for the rest of the table.

Dangerboy, at the other table, did also.

It was SHOCKING how much food there was.

IMG_0284.jpg

I'm drooling just thinking about it.

This is the one meal I have been craving ever since. Mmmmm...

There was turkey, flank steak, and smoked roast pork,
which I have seen referred to as ham, but it really wasn't.

But it was GOOD! :thumbsup2

There was also mashed potatoes, stouffer's mac and cheese, green beans, and stuffing.

Did I mention it was DELICIOUS!

If this is tv dinner food, then give me more tv dinners.
Maybe I have been buying bad tv dinners? :confused3

During our meal there were many trips to the bathroom by the smaller kids.
This is my only complaints:

1) That my kids have a compulsive need to use the bathroom in every restaurant we visit.

2) That the bathroom at LTT is up TWO flights of stairs, and is the size of a utility closet.

:scared1:

Other than that, our meal went smoothly.

For dessert there was a hot apple crumble, served with vanilla ice cream.
The two allergy kids had plain ice cream, as did Stitch Jr.,
who doesn't like most food.

The waitstaff was happy to accomdate us and did not bat an eye at the request for plain ice cream.

All in all this was an excellent meal, and not only do I recommend it,
I probably will be back next trip.

I would also like to try their lunch menu,
which is not a character meal and has several menu choices,
one of which is the Thanksgiving type feast we had had,
only in individual servings.

This meal also provided us with two of our most memorable photos:

Mom's new close personal friend

And...

Bitsy

And those two photos sum up WHY we go to WDW!

So give Liberty Tree Tavern a try!
It's Hick Recommended!

Next up:
Sing with me: "We're going on a trip, in a great big rocket ship, Hollywood and Vine, Little Einsteins!"

I just love picture of Bitsy kissing Minnie's nose! Absolutely adorable!! Great pictures and you have me drooling again!

So glad you've updated. Fantastic pictures - the picture of Bitsy and Minnie is adorable.

As always, great pictures and a great review!

I know that LTT gets mixed reviews, but we like it. It's comfort food served family style in the a/c, and that's just perfect for a dinner at the MK. The characters are fun, too! I love Chip & Dale! :goodvibes

I agree about the restrooms. It is inconvenient to go upstairs (where do those who use wheelchairs go?) and there aren't many stalls in the girl's room. But other than the bathroom issue, I think it's a fun place!

DM5, you cannot fool me one bit. Free Dining is all about YOU! Anytime we can get out of having to cook a meal is wonderful and a long string of days is sheer heaven!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks Heather! Have you been to LTT yet? We really did enjoy it. Thanks for posting a link on UM's trippie...I couldn't find the Disboutique to save my life. Wasn't on the community board OR the crafts board. Had no idea it was on the FAMILY board. LOL

Your countdown must be getting down there! :cool1:

So glad you've updated. Fantastic pictures - the picture of Bitsy and Minnie is adorable.

Thanks! We think she's pretty cute too, if you haven't noticed. LOL

[She's so cute because she can be so evil.
One day when she was 2, she dragged then 3yo Princess K
across the Living Room by her ponytail. Ouch!]

As always, great pictures and a great review!

I'm sorry, did it seem I was trying to hide that fact????
:lmao:
The ONLY thing I have to do on vacation,
besides knowing where my kids are at any given time,
is LAUNDRY.
And I can live with that.
:thumbsup2
Hope everything is fine in Indiana!

Great Reviews! Can't wait to read more!

Thanks MM!
Hoping to get over to my trip report tomorrow than back over here again.
Too many pots a-boil. :rolleyes1

Thanks again everyone! :goodvibes

Just a quick question is the Liberty Tree Tavern an order off the menu or family style restaurant. I love your pictures of the characters. We are going in 34 days and the kids were so excited to see your pictures.

At LTT Lunch is by a menu, and Dinner (after 3pm, I think?) is a family style (served at the table on platters) all you can eat kind of thing.
We were at dinner.
I would like to try their lunch menus sometime. But the dinner is excellent!

Glad you're back!:goodvibes

Thanks! It's nice to be missed! LOL :wizard:

DM5, we are having a heat wave, a Hoosier heatwave and I certainly can cancan. :dance3:

Nope, you do not hide a thing. I am just plain happy for ye and hoping that you will be able to return soon and for even longer AND when I am there!!1 :)
