Vittles A Go-Go: Hicks on Holiday - Update 2/14/09, pg 18 COMPLETE!

Loved the Princess breakfast pics! I totally understand bringing the dresses from home all the way to a character meal b/c we did that last year for the castle lunch, and carried that Aurora dress in the tote bag all day! (Those Disney shopping dresses don't wrinkle no matter what!) Your girls were too cute and I love the baby looking at Ariel in that picture!

Onward through Epcot!

subbing..

Only better title would have been Hicks on Parade :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

great story so far

Hi!
I hopped on over from Hicks on Holiday 2 - I love a good dining report!
Looking forward to your reviews!

Yeah, they took up a lot of room in the backpack, but at least it was only for one day.
We've had them since last Christmas, and they are starting to look a little ratty, but I guess that is just a testament to how much they are loved. :goodvibes

You can't see it in the picture, but the baby is wearing a shirt that says "ocean princess" and has a mermaid on it. That's why we wanted her pic with Ariel, but she wouldn't look at the camera. LOL

Oh, so you've seen us around! LOL
Have you checked out the trip report? That's really gonna be Hicks on Parade! ;)

Excellent review and pictures! Thanks for sharing!

Great review! I have this on my schedule for our December trip but I've been waffling on it since the food seems a bit ho-hum. My dd is 10 and I'd like her to see the princesses, but not at the cost of a meal in the castle.

Looking forward to more:)

Now I am more disappointed than ever that you were not able to join us for Spectro Magic. Since I love being surrounded by kids I would have been in hog heaven. Not that I did not end up surrounded by kids, just smaller family groups. :rotfl2: I am the oldest in a family of 8 so you all seem completely normal to me.

I am sincerely glad that I did get to meet you and your oldest? daughter though. Maybe another time and since you have such a large family should your mom need an assistant please feel free to call upon me. :)

I look forward to reading about your experiences and hope to get around to writing mine one of these days. Lots going on here right now and not much of it good unfortunately. This to shall pass, I hope, I hope. :wizard:

This is just great -- love the pictures and your writing. Your children are just adorable although I just can't imagine having that many -- I only had one!! Love the little girls in their dresses! So sweet and so much fun.

Going to read your TR now!!

Thanks for sharing!:thumbsup2

When we last left the Hicks, they had just had a lovely breakfast with the princesses at Castle Askershus in Norway/Epcot.

But what I forgot to tell you is the night before they managed to squeeze in their first Counter Service at the Pop Food Court.

I am a big fan of Everything Pop. I think they have a very good selection of food items, especially with the DDP.

It is a bit time consuming for us to get meals for nine people and pay and carry them back to the table. But we have that problem everywhere.

It really helps NOT to get there at a busy time. I would recommend eating before breakfast before 8 am, and dinner before 8 pm.

When it is busy, it is BUSY!!! :scared1:

We had a nice dinner there, just after arriving.

[Bionic SIL and Stitch Jr. did not stick around to finish dinner, as they were still feeling a little sick from their flight.]

I was looking forward to the parmesan crusted chicken. One secret to share with you, no matter what the board says, you can custom order the parmesan crusted chicken "your way."

Your choices are: With pasta OR salad,
red sauce or white sauce,
sauce on the chicken or just on the pasta,
and you always get a breadstick.
Just tell them what you want, and they will do it.

I ordered the chicken, with pasta and red sauce.
DD13 (Disneygirl) got it with pasta and white sauce.
John got it with salad and we can't remember if he had sauce.
John = ok
Disneygirl = dry
Me = Usually better, mine was a little under done in one part, which grosses me out.

Chef C (ds11) had the individual pizza, which he enjoyed very much.

Mom had the veg. lasagna, and liked it pretty well, though she was a little thrown by the texture of one of the veggies in it, we were thinking maybe eggplant.

Pocohontas Jr. (niece 10) had a hamburger meal.

We had fountain drinks or individual large milks, and a variety of fruit cups and cookies/cakes for dessert.

The little kids all had chicken nugget kid's plates. They came with a choice of two sides -- fries, cookie, carrots, grapes, or pudding -- and a kid's size fountain drink, milk, juice, or water.

They LOVED this meal, and it was to become a fall back all around WDW, though I was trying very hard to limit it for the two with wheat sensitivities.
But in a pinch....

Sarah's soapbox:
It would be nice if Counter service restaurants would add a child size hamburger. There are no hamburger kid's meals to be had anywhere in WDW.
We could always order it without a bun, or with a GF bun.

There is no child size pizza either.
Thank goodness for Pizza Planet (which I shall review later), since they have one size fits all meals AND Gluten Free Pizza!
But if I could add kid's burgers and pizzas, I would.
Ok, end of my rant. For now.

All in all, I really like and recommend the Pop Century food court. It has a lot of variety, plenty of seating (though I still recommend eating at slow times), and fun decorations and music.

Happy to answer any questions about Everything Pop or the use of the current DDP(2007) at the food court.

Funny to be "waffling" about a princess breakfast! :lmao:

If you don't mind the cost, it was fun, but it is pricey for out of pocket.

Linda - I find you to be a completely charming lady, so for you to find us completely normal is a big complement!
Yes, that was my oldest you met. She is my darling right hand girl. And a Disney fanatic to boot. I am so proud! *sniff*

Thanks! We can't imagine not having them! LOL
We think they are adorable too. Hope they don't get big heads from it.
We really can't take any credit for their adorableness, that's all God and weird combinations of DNA. ;)
I like to think they look a lot like their handsome dad.

Thanks for reading everyone!

DisneyMom5, I said your family size seemed normal to me. The fact that your kids are well behaved and you get along with your parents and inlaws is a bit suspect and if you find me 'charming' that is a sure sign that you are NOT normal.. However, I like that in a person. :dance3:

Entertaining reviews and great pics. I look forward to more of your family's adventures.

You have a great writing style. Both my daughter and I are gluten free, and so I'm really looking forward to your reviews. What were the best gluten free places?

I wish I could be more helpful, as ours is more of a sensitivity than a complete intolerance, and I didn't always pursue it at the restaurants, because I can usually tell what will work for them.

But in my experience, if you ask, you will receive.

The best CS was Pizza Planet. They carry Amy's pizza.
DS was sooo excited he could have pizza.
This was especially nice because they do not have kid's and adult meals there, so ds could use a child CS credit on the DDP and get his pizza.
It was big enough that he shared with his little sis.

Liberty Tree Tavern is my pick for best "Bent over backward to give them a delicious GF meal." (more on that later)

We also got GF products at PSB/Norway, and Donald's breakfastasauras, and the chef walked us through at Chef Mickey's for dinner.

If you are planning a trip, make sure you contact Brenda Bennet at WDW Special foods. I can look up the info for you if you need it! She sent me several documents on what WDW can do for you.

Thanks for reading!

We were finally being seated at the Princess Storybook Breakfast at Castle Askershus in Norway/Epcot.
th_IMG_0173.jpg

HEY!! We were sitting right next to your at Akershus. Errr...we would have been sitting right next to you if you would have been at that table about a year and a half ago.

Loving your food report and your trip report.

We're POP repeaters too. Two trips under our belt and thinking of staying there again. I agree that they really should have child size burgers. My youngest loves a burger with just cheese on it.

We did the Princess breakfast last trip too. I loved the cheese! I can still taste it. Last year for Halloween I insisted my DD 7 be Belle so we could reuse the costume on our trip. I always try to get 2 uses out of the costumes. So we drove from Baton Rouge, LA and hauled the costume, shoes and crown with us. Guess what? She wouldn't even let us take it out of the truck. Thinks she's too old for dressing up. Oh well we still got a good picture with Belle just not in matching dresses.

Keep it coming!:cool1:
