Vittles A Go-Go: Hicks on Holiday - Update 2/14/09, pg 18 COMPLETE!

Subscribing!! Loving the reviews :thumbsup2

Waiting patiently for more......popcorn::

We leave in 29 days....can't wait!!

Also waiting patiently....

I can't believe the comments about trick or treaters, though - we had all of about 10 kids here last night despite me being out the local supermarket of mini chocolate bars. Oh well, my kids are pleased they get to eat what's left :rotfl:

Sarah, your review of Le Cellier made me so hungry! I loved the mushroom filet and I am not a mushroom person at all--I think it helps that it's kind of dark in there. It was easily my favorite meal of the week though. Pricey for just the 3 of us, too, $130 (if we hadn't been on DDP!:cool1: ).

wilma-bride, I had a few cookies and some candy corn left over that I had saved back in case someone came at the last minute so I packed them up and sent them over to the Senior Center. If it is not in the house I am not going to eat it. Heck, I even left the Halloween treats in the car trunk until the last minute as we have a detached garage so I was not likely to go out in the middle of the night to attack it.

Sarah, did you all go to the Illuminations after LeCellier, if so, where did you sit?
I've been to WDW before but not to have TS at Epcot...

Love your reviews!! :) Sounds like you had a wonderful time! And I thought I had it rough with 3 picky eaters!! ;)

Honestly, it wasn't too bad.
As I have said before, my kids are all about the food.
It's only hard with the two that can't have wheat, combined with the dining plan kid's meals. I am sure I could have gone through the process to get some different choices, but we were always in such a hurry.
DNephew and DNiece can be a bit picky, but thankfully that's THEIR mom's problem. :thumbsup2

DisneyMom5, I agree with you on grandmas. I am a surrogate mom/grandma to many. That is why I love Halloween cause so many of them come by and a few who do not know where I live are so surprised (hopefully happily so) to see me sitting there. Tickles me to pieces.

I think 'older' parents make better parents sometimes. I know I would have been a whole lot different than I was when I was younger.

I joke that if we ever got broke we could play tic tac toe on my stomach cause I have so many surgical scars. (Yeah, like my stomach would ever be FLAT enough for that)

I have a hubby to take bowling today while I wash the car, do the shopping and then get back in time to take him to his favorite place to eat. Tomorrow I get to go get a load of mulch and shovel it all, taking a break to fix his lunch and dinner. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

SG

I'm going with "older parents are better parents" as that's me only option! LOL
I know I AM a bit more laid back with the last few.
My surgical scars aren't so bad. I am just pleased as punch I have only managed to have three surgeries (2 c-sections, and a gall bladder removal) before having 5 babies the "regular way." ;)

We solve the keeping up the yard problem by not landscaping. We don't even rake, except for the front lawn, and the city comes and vacuums them up out of the street.
Our neighbors probably love us, but oh well.
We do our part by keeping our house and yard neat and free of garbage, junk, cars on blocks, etc.

Ooooh, so jealous! Well, if I wouldn't have to go through all the packing and the 24 hour drive again, then I'd REALLY be jealous!

Also waiting patiently....

My SIL ran to the store while I was still getting trick or treaters, not for them, but to get the discounted chocolate bars for dh and I. The kids under 6 can't have anything that has a peanut warning, and that's all small chocolate bars.
Their loss, our gain, and gain, and gain...

Thanks for the reviews. :thumbsup2

Welcome! Happy to share. :goodvibes

It's been our fav two trips in a row (though dh liked Rose and Crown really well also. I think the Black and Tan helped a lot. LOL)
I have been so hungry for WDW food. I am sick of my own cooking, especially since it's been hamburger and chicken since we got back. Some pork and beef was on sale this week, so we'll actually have something different.
My kid's call all meat chicken. LOL

wilma-bride, I had a few cookies and some candy corn left over that I had saved back in case someone came at the last minute so I packed them up and sent them over to the Senior Center. So bringing extra into our house was probably a bad thing, right?

Sarah, did you all go to the Illuminations after LeCellier, if so, where did you sit?
I've been to WDW before but not to have TS at Epcot...

Cynthi

No, we didn't. We actually left earlier that night. We did hit illuminations later that week, for the first time in 16 years.
We didn't sit down, we just caught it where we were at the time. (Japan???) but it still was a pretty good view.
Maybe someone else has a good suggestion on that! :)

Thanks for reading all!

DisneyMom5, I have a friend who has many children and her youngest one walked through the kitchen while we were visiting one day and announced that she was going to hitchhike to California that summer. Virginia just smiled and said "That's nice". After the daughter left my friend explained that she had learned not go fret or worry cause they did not actually do 90% of what they said they were going to do and it only took her 5 kids to learn that. Guess if I had been able to have more kids I would have been a better mom.

I did not have grass nor wall to wall carpet when I was raising my kids. I said 'no' enough and did not need more reasons. I only keep my yard so well now cause I find that physical work keeps what sanity I have left intact. When I get mad I work. I work a lot nowadays. :rolleyes1

I now have to figure out how to get that darned patio table into the garage. Would not be so bad if I had actually had time to sit at the table at some point this summer. Too much work and not enough fun makes Slightly Goofy more than Slightly Aggravated. :dance3:

I am sooooo jealous that you got into LeCellier, I himmm and hawddd about it and made my ADR with out it.:confused3 ... Then after reading so many trip reports and food reports I called and the CM actually laughed at me:rotfl2: ... He was like they have been booked for months:rotfl2: but let me see if there is anything open for you:rotfl2: :rotfl2: . No I am sorry:rotfl2: there is nothing , nothing open. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: So unfortunatly we will just have to make another trip to WDW just to eat there what a shame. I am thinking to go for halloween the next trip for our anniversary.
Looking forward to reading more when you have time:hourglass to write!!!!

I called before I even made my hotel ressies, because I knew we were less than 180 days out, and I wasn't taking any chances. Well worth the effort! :thumbsup2

They laughed at me when I tried to change my Chef Mickey's ADR last minute.

Thanks for reading!

I have come to the conclusion that it is best to make ADR's all those months in advance and then play it by ear when there.

If I cannot get the exact time I want I show up early if we are hungry then and we can often get in. I have been known to show up a couple of hours early in some cases. Seems like if you have an ADR, no matter the time, you have a better chance of being seated. If I want to eat a bit later I show up on time and usually have a wait. If we do not feel like eating at all or not at the place we have booked we can always cancel however if we cannot find another place we would rather go we have some 'port in a storm' with having ADR's.

You can also call Disney reservations from either your room or at any pay phone in the park or walk up to the podium at any TS restaurant to inquire to availability and save yourself some frustration and wasted steps.

If all else fails just enjoy wherever you are. Sometimes that works out better than the best laid plans. :)

That Wacky Guy, from in the Sky....COSMIC RAY!!!! :cool1:

Tues., Sept. 18, Magic Kingdom

This was the Hicks first day in Magic Kingdom.

Because we knew we would be eating a big meal around 4:30 pm at Liberty Tree Tavern, we planned arriving in time for the 9 am rope drop, experiencing all of Tomorrowland, then hitting Cosmic Ray's for lunch when it opened at 11 am.

This plan worked BEAUTIFULLY!!!

By the time we had done all of Tomorrowland, including a meet and greet with Stitch and ALL of the attractions except for the Laugh Floor, Ray's was open for business.

I had heard very good things about this place.

Everyone was game for just your basic fast food fare, but Ray's had that and more.

Mom decided to go all out, and ordered the 1/2 Rotis. Chicken, which came with mashed potatoes, carrots, and a soda and chocolate chip cookie.

She said it was very good, but VERY filling. It really could be a lighter lunch for two people with the generous amount of food they give you.

[Sorry, I don't have a pic of it, it did look good!]

Danger boy and Bitsy had a kid's grilled chicken salad. This was a good option for them, because although I didn't take time to verify that there was absolutely no gluten/wheat, it lacked the obvious breading/bun that other options had.

They had grapes or carrots, chocolate pudding, and a chocolate milk as their sides.

Also pictured there is Princess K's chicken nuggets with homemade chips and chocolate pudding. She also had a chocolate milk.

The homemade chips confused me, because they are in no way healthier than french fries, as they are fried to a crisp in oil.
Who knows what the thinking on that was???
The kids thought they were just ok.

The nuggets, as always, were a hit.

I ordered the Turkey Bacon Wrap. This was absolutely delicious and HUGE!

IMG_0211.jpg

I would absolutely get this again.

With it I got a soda, apple slices and carrot cake.
This carrot cake was by far the best carrot cake of the whole trip.
The carrot cake at Pop Food Court was lousy compared to this.
Did I mention it was good Carrot Cake???

I told John , who ordered later than I, to save room for half of my wrap, and so he ordered the chicken ceasar salad, soda, and chocolate cake.
[No pic.]
He liked both of our meals.

Here I must take a short break, as I need to corral the kids for bed.

More Ray's in my next post!

Back to the Future.....the Future of Food.....Cosmic Ray's...

Continued....

DisneyGirl and the Bionic SIL decided to try the Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
They both got the pasta salad as a side, and chocolate milk or an iced coffee.

Neither was very impressed with either the sandwich, which they said was dry, even though they had dressed it thoroughly at the toppings bar, OR the pasta salad which they both thought was just odd.

SIL got carrot cake (did I happen to mention it's good carrot cake?) and DG got a piece of chocolate cake.

Which is funny, as she doesn't eat chocolate cake.
:confused3

Since inquiring minds wanted to know, she informed us she got it for the group, as she didn't actually want any dessert.

:wizard:
Sounds good to us!

Although I didn't take a picture, Chef C had a double cheeseburger, fries, chocolate milk, and chocolate cake.

:scared1:

I know, like us, you are asking yourself, "Where does he put it all?"
We have no idea, though we suspect it is fueling his exceptional height. LOL

Also, I forgot to mention in the last post that the Inquisitor also had the chicken nuggets and chips, with pudding, and Stitch Jr. had the same, except with chocolate chip cookie.

All in all, this was a very good meal, with plenty of choices for everyone.

It can be a bit frustrating to stand in all of the different lines, especially because you have to pay at each,
but if you get there before the noon rush, it should not be too bad.

We definately would eat at Cosmic Ray's again! :thumbsup2

Next up: Give Me Liberty (Tree Tavern) or (I'll Starve to) Death...

I am loving your reviews. Your family sounds like so much fun! It looks like you had a wonderful trip :thumbsup2

I haven't finished reading yet, but I am loving your reviews so far! I love the pics with the baby staring at the princesses. :cutie:
Free dining is the best! We are kicking ourselves for not booking the bounceback. I didn't think the dates would work for us.:sad1:
Edited to add: I just finished reading. Looking forward to more. Also, about the kids' meals-when we ate at Sci-Fi, DS8 ordered one of the complete meals and they let him substitute an ice cream sundae for one of the sides. I hear people have mixed success with substitutions, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks for adding the Turkey Bacon wrap to my list for the upcoming trip. It looked great.

I am wondering if you had the same problem I used to have with lengthy trips with our kids. When they came home and you cooked your first meal did they look for a menu?? :rotfl:

Countdown getting close for me and lots to do, all vacation stuff AND Christmas!! :scared1: :santa:

Thanks for reading! If you are ever around us, I can at least guarentee it won't be boring! LOL

When dh said we could go back if we paid off the cc I was kicking myself for not sneakily booking bounce back also. LOL
But I am pretty sure it won't happen this year, at least the trip. I REALLY want dh to get closer to finishing his degree, so I am hoping he can take classes all year.
I have to say I was happy with the kid's attitudes about their meals. They never complained. It was I wishing that they had more choices, I guess.
Thanks for reading!

That wrap was tasty! And I don't like tomatoes, and I really didn't pick too many out, so that's saying something.

The kids didn't look for a menu, but I did! LOL
I was really craving restaurant food for a while. We finally went out for MIL's b-day the other week to a really nice Italian restaurant. That helped a lot. LOL

We originally were supposed to be in WDW this week, before free dining came along. Kind of glad we're not, for a variety of reasons.

[Not that I wouldn't mind being there if I could just pop over and not have to pack or drive two days or be away from home for so long right before the holiday!]

Thanks again for reading everyone!
Hoping to update my trip report this weekend, so keep your eyes open for that! :rolleyes1
