DS14 has a few spots on both of his cheeks that are lighter than the rest of his skin. He has a few spots on one of his legs right at the fold of his hip, groin area. It comes and goes in its brightness, I had that one checked by the doctor when he was about 2. Doc sort of dismissed it and frankly once I stopped changing his diapers I would forget about it. ;)

The ones on his face really started showing up about 6 weeks ago and again sometimes are more noticeable than others. DH took him to the dermatologist yesterday but naturally can't remember exactly what she said. They want him back in 3 months, warned him about tanning, ( which he loves )and gave him Elidel to put on the spots. She also dismissed the spots on his leg as a birth mark.

Anyone have any experience with this? :confused3 I don't know whether I should be really worried about this or not. Thanks

I am definitely not an expert, so take this for what it's worth.

I think Vitiligo is an absence of pigment from areas of the skin. It runs in my mother's side of the family, and starts becoming veyr noticeable as members of her family age. I hope it's not something I have to look forward to. It isn't harmful in a health sense.

If the dermatologist has given your son Elidel ... I thought that was for ecsema. Does he have that too?

I would recommend you either getting more information from your DH, and / or contacting the dermatologist yourself to get the answers you need.

Good luck.

No, he does not have eczema. When I googled Elidel that is what I read it was for and was confused. I will be calling the doctor myself. This what I get for asking DH to go in my place.

I realize it isn't harmful but I keep picturing Michael Jackson and getting freaked out ;)

Edited to add:
I just called the doctor. I am so bad I will say I am going to do it but then put it off because I don't want to 'bother' them.

He actually has Pityriasis Alba. I googled it, it is a mild form of eczema, hence the Elidel. And will resolve itself over time.

Thanks
