I thought I would jump in and add my 2 cents. We stayed in the Falls section about 2 summers ago. Our neighbors stayed in the Falls March of 2005. We had a unit right across the street from the Falls pool. The location was GREAT. Our unit was fine. I don't remember it being musty - nor the unit that our neighbors had - they were happy with their unit. The screen in porch is really nice and big and had a great view of the pond. Both of the Falls units I have seen had a cute game table that you could play checkers on - we liked that! We have stayed in a lot of condo type Florida accomodations across the State. The negatives IMHO of the Falls are that it's a smaller darker interior (less windows plus it's more "woodsy" darker greens colors), there are 2 twin beds in the 2nd Bedroom, and there isn't really a true jacuzzi tub (ours was just built into the bottom of the master shower - and we never used it). My DH actually prefers the location of the Falls section - since you have 3 pools right there, miniature golf, tennis, arcarde, etc. We got a great deal thru Skyauction and were happy with the unit for the price that we paid.
I prefer the Fountains section. We have been lucky to get 2 newly renovated units there. The 2 bedrooms units are bigger than the Falls and much brighter. Being newly renovated - was really great!! Everything was so clean. Each room was larger than the Falls units. We have been within a close walk to the Fountains pools, so that was very nice.
We always have a car so we don't have any issues with getting around the resort - nor off site.
Oh - we stayed many years ago in a Springs unit which was fine at the time. Last year on one trip, they put us in a Springs unit. We checked the unit out and HATED it. It was so ugly in decor (very pink) and smelled. Plus, our lanai had a view of the air conditioning unit (HUGE) of the Springs activity center and it was so ugly and noisy. So we went back to the registration area and politely asked for a newly renovated unit - and they were able to accomodate us.
The worst part of the VR for me is the checkin. I'm not sure what system they are using, but their ressie people don't seem to have a good idea of the "available" inventory. They should really update their system. That said, we always use Diamond Lane check-in and find the people very pleasant. We are VERY nice to them and we let them know we are more than willing to wait while they search for a unit that we would be happy in.
The best part of the Vistana in our opinions is the pools, activities, and the college kids from other countries that work there. We really like it in the summer and like to stay at the resort and participate in the activities. My DS made friends with one of the kids, who was from Holland - who was incredible with the kids (even the big ones like my DH - LOL). My son stills talks about him to this day.
We have also stayed at the VV. Our unit was beautiful. Negatives were the pillows and the frogs in the ponds were very noisy. We found the staff few and far between (and not very knowledgable) and the activities paled in comparision to the VR.
I hope that you all enjoy the VR and that your fears are put to rest when you get to your unit.
