We just booked a 2 br. at the Vistana resort for late March 06. Please tell me any helpful hints or suggestions that will make our visit better. Can we make any specail requests? This my first time using my Mom's timeshare week. I have no idea what to do. There will be four of us my DH, DS6 and DD41/2.
TIA,
Tara ;)

I'm gonna piggyback a question in here . . . is the Diamond Lane available to people who booked through a timeshare exchange? I'm staying at the Vistana in December, and have exchanged a timeshare week for it.

yes anyone can use the diamond lane - you make your request anywhere from 4 to 2 weeks before you arrive.

forgot - we got Springs (thankgiving break) and I expected to hate it.

because of mother (she has problem walking) - we loved it.

6 steps from the car to the front door of our unit - make up for alot of things.

Sheraton Vistana was scheduled to replace the carpets (and believe me they needed) in later 2005, early 2006 - I think????

they even put us near the maid meeting place. I just couldn't sleep longer than 7:30am any morning.

we really enjoyed our stay at this resort!

How bad are the older units? We are not that fussy. Is there anyway to request a certain area? I have heard that cascades are nice. Are there any other ones I should hope for? When do they assign the units? Do they assign the units as soon as you book or upon arrival?. Many people exchange timeshare weeks why would we be more apt to get an older unit? :confused3 I have sooooo many questions!

Definitely sign up for Diamond Lane checkin. You will be VERY happy you did when you see the other line. My suggestion is to request what is important to you in terms of location - i.e. high/low floor, near a pool, away from major roads, etc. Our son is also young and we love the Vistana. We like to spend days there doing nothing except hang out by the pool and participate in the kids activities. We stock up the fridge and have lunches/breakfast. I would suggest packing a collapsable cooler. Great for toting snacks/drinks to the pool. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

ttfn3- Which section did you stay in? Which pool did you think was the best for kids? I picked this hotel because it was included our familys timeshare and the pictures they listed were beutiful. I am really going to be disapointed if I get an worn out dated room. Is there a fee to get the diamond lane check in?
Thanks
Tara

Tara - there is no fee for the Diamond Lane checkin. So, go ahead and sign up for it. We have stayed in the Springs, Falls and Fountains area. We liked the Falls since it was close to several pools, mini golf, arcade, etc. The unit was older but very clean. It was right across the drive from a small pool with the slide. The pool actually is my son's favorite and I like it since it's small and easier to keep an eye on him. We also liked the Fountains area. We were able to park right outside our door and were within walking distance to a pool. Our unit was newer and much larger than our Fountains unit. We stayed in Springs many years ago and it was fine. They gave us a Springs unit this past March and it was unacceptable. We returned to the Diamond Lane checkin and politely asked to be moved. Luckily, they had another unit available. I find it more helpful if you concentrate on what's important in a room for you versus stressing out about a particular area. We definitely like a room with a water view. We also don't mind walking to different areas - or driving if we need to. With your 4 yr old you will probably also like the Cascades pool area with the fountains. It's easy to walk to from most sections. We also like the staff at the Vistana. The ones we have encountered have been really good with the kids. Our son likes to participate in the kids games. Some are free and they award prizes such as a free round of mini golf - to all the kids that participate.

Can you please tell me what kind of coffee filters the coffee maker takes? I called the front desk at vistana today, but they didn't understand what I meant. Is there anything else other than laundry soap that is a must to bring? I have the tendancy to bring way too much.

I take various sizes of plastic ziploc bags on our vacation. Great for leftovers and toting snacks/sandwiches. If you have small children, pack 1-2 plastic cups (usually only glass in the units) and a nightlight (the bathrooms can get dark at night). I actually pick up laundry supplies at the grocery in Florida. Last time I used a big bottle of Woolite. You might want to get some alumimum foil if you plan on using the oven - and salt/pepper. I also take a small collapsable cooler for toting snacks/beverages to the pool. I like to check in at the resort and check out the unit first before I hit the grocery store. I think the coffee pot is like a full sized Mr. Coffee? I also pick up a couple of cheap water noodles at Walgreen's or the grocery.

You do not need to pack pool towels. You can get plenty at the Vistana Resort by the pools. Oh, FYI - the Vistana has games you can check out at the rec centers. Great for some quiet family time.

ttfn3- Do we need to bring dishwasher soap or is it provided? Do you remember if the are hairdryers there? Do you know what kind of shape the Spas section is in?
Tara :)

I'm getting in this conversation a little late.
Will try to answer some questions that haven't already been addressed.

Cascades and Lakes are two newest sections. Both provide elevators and zero entry pools which make it very easy for little ones, elderly and those with disabilities. Even though the Cascades is the newest and very beautifully decorated, I prefer the Lakes because the units are a tad larger. Particularily noticeable in the living/dining room area. Felt a little more cramped in the Cascades, especially if you have any more than 4-5 people staying.
The Fountains I and II are midway between the old and the new. I own here so I can answer specific questions about this section. I prefer the Fountains II because it's slightly newer and has the jacuzzi in the master bedroom (like the Cascades and Lakes) vs the tub in the master bathroom as in all the other sections. There are several Fountains II units that do NOT have a water view though......so I'll take a Fountains I over a Fountains II if it means sacrificing the water view in II.
The older units are generally clean but you could notice some outdated decor. The last time we stayed in an older unit it was the Spas. This was the end of 1999. Felt like a blast out of the 1980's decor. We weren't too thrilled with it when we compared it to our Fountains units. The carpet in the hallways was slightly torn, some tile missing in the hall bathroom, ceiling fan in the second bedroom was very wobbly (we reported all this to the resort). Regular maintenance is performed on all the sections of the resort so hopefully some of these things were attended to. On the positive side, this older Spas unit has brand new, shiny kitchen appliances. Felt like we were the first to use them. All sections (besides Cascades and Lakes) have only stairs to get to your villa. So if being on a 2nd or 3rd floor will be a problem with a family member, you'll need to request "ground floor" or "elevator building" for medical reasons. The Falls sections, though one of the older ones, does have a fun pool slide (only slide onsite). I'd only recommend this slide for kids 4-5 or older though. It's pretty quick and an enclosed tube. The Courts is the oldest section and set up more like townhomes. It actually was a condo development that existed prior to Vistana purchasing the land. There are no water views in this section. A poster on the DIS stayed there fairly recently and had snapped some great pics that showed so improvements/upgrades made to this area. For the life of me I cannot find the pics, but I recall it made me feel not so nervous about ever staying here.

The Cascades, Springs, Palms, Spas & Courts are in the slightly more bustling area of the resort that is closer to the General Store and Zimmies restaurant. You'll literally need to drive out of this area, through a second guard gate, to get to the Lakes and Fountains sections. Over there, which I find a quieter more low-key section, you will find the Flamingo Cafe restaurant. There are children's playgrounds scattered throughout the resort.

As for what to bring.....dishwasher detergent and dishwashing liquid soap are provided. Even though you can get towels at the pools, you need to sign them in and out or you will be charged for them. So we prefer to bring our own towels---and we prefer our longer beach towel versions. But if you're absolutely looking for a way to condense packing, then the Vistana-provided towels are fine. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner (bath soap is provided). If you feel you need to replenish any items during your stay, just push the housekeeping button on the phone. They will bring up extra items, free of charge, we just choose to tip them. Yes, there are hairdryers---the wall mounted kind. Not very powerful drying capacity, but adequate.

I have some pics at my sonyimagestation storage site if you'd like to see some of the different units :

I believe the site may require you to "register" in order to view the pics. The registration is free.
Let me know if I can help any further.

we just stayed in the Lakes June5-12 rm#1830, very nice rooms! put my req. in Jan. and up till we arrived they told me we were in the Fall's section. they do provide dish soap daily I still had my own brand with me just in case. we were very happy with our location, but don't know if I want to go through that stress again of not knowing for sure what unit we will get. The older units from the outside did not impress me at all and would hate to be put in one for the money we paid. princess:

We did an exchange through Intervale timeshare. Do you think that they could have already assigned us a section for this March?

Maria- Thank you for all of the great info. It is all very helpful!
Tara ;)

The exchange companies (II and RCI) when they book you, normally you are assigned a specific unit. It's for reservation purposes most of the time. An example, we banked our Vistana week one year and wanted to add it to the next year so we could get 2 villas (brought family down). Well, the one banked week showed we were in a Springs unit. When we checked in (I had faxed Vistana our requests to be close to family) and they did indeed move us to a Fountains villa. So I believe Vistana reserves the right to move people around despite what an II or RCI reservation might state.

Just wanted to add....that should you get placed in the older Courts section, I found the link to the pics for that section. They were taken by a DIS poster, Booyaa68 and are very good : http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=84871

Also, 3rd floor (or highest floor) of the buildings tend to offer a vaulted ceiling and skylight. Not sure if this is true with some of the older sections, but the Fountains and up I can confirm this. It's nice because it lets in alot of extra light.

Hi. All I can say is don't worry. You will love Vistana. Our favorite resort. Many pools with different features all within easy walk for any unit. Many activities for kids, you will get schedule when checking in. They have all the necessities provided except maybe salt & pepper but they may even have the small packs of them. If you need anything call down and ask or need more, they have always been quick to bring anythiing we wanted. Just go and enjoy

Thank you. I am sure I will have more questions as our vacation date approaches. :flower:

Tara,

You should definately use Diamond Lane.. They will issue you an automatic response that says that Cascades and Lakes are unavailable.. This is not usually true. We were an exchange, and I had sent a very very NICE request to Diamond Lane for a newly renovated unit... (PM me if you want to know more....) and we were given a premium top floor unit in Cascades, over-looking the Cascades Pool!

NOTE: Cascades was by far the nicest pool that we saw, it was GREAT! zero-entry will little spray fountains for little kids on one side, a water-fall, and nice stairs into the pool on the other side. We LOVED it!

When you check in, they will ask you to go across the room to get your 'Welcome Packet'. This is where they will hit you up to schedule you for a time share presentation. So, be prepared for that so you can give them a firm and polite 'no', unless you are indeed interested.

Really, unless you happen to get one of the few units that is in need of some renovation, you will happy at Vistana, no matter where you are!!! All of the resort and it's pools are open to you.

Wish I were going back! :goodvibes

Wise advice Wishing ! They'll direct you to a back counter after you check-in. Just keep going.....the coupons aren't worth it.
