Hi
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to stay in York - somewhere central, with atmosphere, "olde-worlde" if possible, but any suggestions gratefully received. Also any recommendations for a nice place to eat in the evening? Thanks.

Hi, I live near York so have never had to stay in a hotel there but there are some very nice quaint B&B's on Fulford Road with easy access to the city. If you want to stay in the ciy there is Judges Lodgings (pricey though). With regard to restaurants it depends what you like, my favourite is Buzz which is Japanese.

Agree with the Fulford Rd, 10 mins walk and At least dating back to Victorian or Georgian. I luvvvvvvvv York

We stay in York at least once a year but I can't for the life of me remember the links to any of the places we have stayed in. I will chat with DW later and see if we can find them. The one in particular I want to recommend was done out in such a way that it was like stepping back in time. All the hall, stairs and landings were covered in old toys and furniture, and the rooms had 4 poster beds with what looked like victorian style ornaments.
There are a good few ghost walks around too - the one starting at the end of the Shambles being our favourite. And don't forget the Disney Store :thumbsup2

DW to the rescue :)

The gorgeous Guest House we stayed in that was decked out with old dolls etc was this one http://arnothouse.yorkwebsites.co.uk/

It was truely beautiful and the breakfasts were fabulous. We stayed in Rievaulx.

Also stayed here which is close to the previous one http://www.straphaelguesthouse.co.uk/

Again also very nice and a little more modern.

Last year we took the kids and stayed here http://www.hedleyhouse.com/

We stayed in the hotel part (they have apartments too). We had a fantastic room right at the top of the hotel and the kids loved it. Whilst there we ate at the hotel - they did a 3 course for £15 option if you pre-booked for your dining. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend it.

All the above are within a few minutes walk from the city centre. I also have them all marked on Google Earth so if you would like the info then just send a PM.

Hope this helps
