Visiting Disney World without a park reservation?

I'm reading a number of posts regarding vacations to Disney where they are reserving their entire stay at HS hoping to get a boarding group, this seems risky to me. During our visit in April there are no reservations for any parks available for resort guests now having to rely on park hopping. If a family ultimately scores RoR on day one they are unable to pick up reservations for another park. Thankfully we have a different park reserved for every day of our stay hoping to score RoR . Is it possible that guests at a Disney resort who have waited too late to reserve their theme parks be left out in the cold having to reschedule their vacation?

If they have park hoppers, they can go to other parks after 2. Guess they really want to ride ROTR.

Not only risky, but maybe unnecessary. I think there is a very good chance of getting a boarding group with only 1 or 2 days reserved for HS unless you are going during a very busy time. We got a boarding group for both HS days for 7 people by doing the 1pm drop. This was during a spring break week when many parks were "sold out" If we would have made HS reservation for every day, we may have been locked out of the other parks or had to purchase PH.

ETA: We were Disney Resort guests and were blocked out of all parks on our first day because we waited to buy tickets. So it can happen.

We are kind of doing this on our trip to increase our chances of a boarding pass since we haven’t been on it yet. We have our arrival day/MK in the evening. And then a full day planned at each park with HS being our 2nd day. Then our last two days I also scheduled HS both days in case we don’t get it our first full day. If we do, I’ll try to adjust our schedule. I figure if we get “stuck” with HS again - that’s ok because we were going to hop to all 4 again on our last 2 days. And if we get “stuck” with it again on our last day I figure that’s when we can fit in Disney Springs or some resort time. We plan on playing it by ear those last 2 days beaded on if we get a boarding pass or not on our 2nd day (first full day we HS).
