Here's the situation. I'm in FL, my step son is in TN. I need to get a gift card to him by Friday. I can't seem to find any place on-line to purchase a gift card that works like a debit card. All of the places that I have found want 7-10 days for delivery because they want to put his name on it. All I want is a gift card similar to what you would buy for a store, no name, once the money is spent its gone. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

We received 2 American Express gift cards for Christmas.

I am not sure where they were purchased. I know a lot of banks have the Mastercard and Visa ones.

Ours did not have our names on it. We simply had to call and activate them and they were ready to use. They worked just a debit card. They were a little tricky for some of the cashiers at certain places to figure out, though.

Here is a link to the type of card we received. There are 2 options on the page-the ones without the name printed on the card can be shipped express.

Also, I have seen the Mastercard ones at Walgreens. You just activate it at the register (I believe it costs $10) and add your amount to it and you are ready to go. It's called the green dot card or something like that.

Good luck.

My brother and SIL gave DD and I each a Visa debit gift card for Christmas. They were each for $100. The only problem is that they did not come with a pin number. Therefore, we had to use them like a charge. No big deal. However, once you use part of it, you have to know exactly how much you have left on the card. The merchants can't just run them through like other gift cards and have it come up with the balance. They have to put in the amount you think you have on the card. If they put in to much, it is declined. They have to keep trying amounts until the get the right amount. What a pain! DD had used part of hers. She had somewhere around $38 left on the card. Unfortunately, she couldn't remember the exact amount. They managed to put through $35. When they tried $39, it was declined. Since she couldn't remember the cents left, she didn't get credit for it.
