Right off the bat your source is questionable.
A quick google search shows they are the only ones reporting it. My gut tells me something is being taken out of context.Honestly, I don't even know of any reputable sources anymore. They are all awful.
Anyone in Virginia with some inside information on this?

I’m in my 40s and in we all took the same math classes until 11th and 12th."All students in grades kindergarten through 10 would receive the same foundational courses, and students in 11th and 12th grades would choose among diverse course offerings based on whether they plan to go straight into the workforce, trade school, college or the military."

So everyone takes the same Math until 11th grade? That is crazy! Again, I hope this is wrong.
Wow. Not my kids. I have two that completed Algebra 2 in 8th grade. Both completed AP Calculus in 11th grade.I’m in my 40s and in we all took the same math classes until 11th and 12th.![]()
In 8th grade we all took pre algebra. Algebra 1 in 9th, 2 in 10th. 11&12 you could choose other stuff. I graduated in 96 from a school that ranks pretty well in academics.Wow. Not my kids. I have two that completed Algebra 2 in 8th grade. Both completed AP Calculus in 11th grade.
My others weren't as strong in math. But I couldn't imagine holding the other two back.
Just to be clear, the idea of pathways isn’t new. My kids’ high school have them - they pick for their Junior & Senior year. Math also went to Math 1, 2 & 3 (and away from algebra, geometry, algebra 2) a long time ago. Kids pick a speciality math in their pathway their senior year (my oldest will take stats)."All students in grades kindergarten through 10 would receive the same foundational courses, and students in 11th and 12th grades would choose among diverse course offerings based on whether they plan to go straight into the workforce, trade school, college or the military."

I’m sure if differs from state to state but in my state we had the below average classes, the average ones and the accelerated ones. It worked out well because we could take average classes where we did average work but could be challenged where we excelled.I’m in my 40s and in we all took the same math classes until 11th and 12th.![]()

So I stand by this is being taken out of context or spun to be something it’s not. It’s been happening in schools for quite awhile.
Just to be clear, it would be very new if it was introduced in my school district. I believe a child should be able to move ahead if they have the ability to do so. I am glad our school district feels the same way.Just to be clear, the idea of pathways isn’t new. My kids’ high school have them - they pick for their Junior & Senior year. I'm reading it. It says 11th and 12th grade is when you can branch out. Kids are taking college level classes in 10th grade at our school. My children were behind others by waiting to taking AP Calc in 11th grade. Why would anyone want all students to be on the same course until they reach 11th grade?Yes, and if you actually read the article objectively without the twist the outlet is trying to give, that's what the article explains is the plan.
