:yay: phoned thomas cook today about passanger duty they phoned virgin and as we have already booked we dont have to pay it so before you pay ask first you may not have to pixiedust: :teleport: :tinker:

Nobody should pay it if they booked a package a flydrive or booked flight only after 12th Dec, Even though the Website accepts payment. I just hope they refund anyone that has paid by mistake.

I booked last October and this is the email i have just received.Looks like we have to pay it.

From 1 February this year, the UK Government has increased Air Passenger Duty (APD) from £20 to £40 per passenger for Economy passengers, and £40 to £80 per passenger for Premium Economy and Upper Class passengers. The tax applies to all passengers (excluding infants and some transit passengers) leaving on a flight from any UK airport from 1 February 2007 and we're sorry to tell you that unfortunately this affects your booking with Virgin Atlantic

How to check if you have already paid the APD

As you booked a flight on or before 12 December 2006 directly with Virgin Atlantic either online at www.virginatlantic.com or through any of our reservations centres, you have not paid the additional APD and must do so before travelling. You can check your booking date by referring to your confirmation email, e-ticket or credit/debit card statement

Yes you will have to pay if you booked flight only before 12th Dec. Anyone that booked after this date they already added it when the booking was made.

If you are booked with Virgin Holidays and you booked before 12th Dec then Virgin Holidays are paying for you.

We booked in June and we go in September and we don't have to pay.:thumbsup2

If you booked a package or a flydrive with Virgin hoilday forget about before or after any dates you don't have anything to pay, they are not allowed to charge any supplements or extra taxes. Its in the terms and conditions.
This tax is only payable on flight only.

I dont think that is correct.

If i put my holiday dates into the Virgin Holidays website today, it shows on the cost breakdown a charge of £20 per person for APD.

Is that on a new/quote or exisiting booking? If it is on a new/quote then they are just showing you that the extra tax is now added rather than just lumping it in with the main price.

Claire ;)

Sorry i think my post was a little confusing. The point i was trying to make is if you book with Virgin Holidays after the 12th Dec you will be charged. Another poster suggested that if you book with Virgin Holidays regardless of the date they will not charge you. But this isn't correct. It isn't just being charged on flights with Virgin Atlantic.

I do not have to pay as i booked with Virgin Holidays in June but if i tried to book the same holiday today with Virgin Holidays i would be charged the new tax.

This is from the Virgin Holidays website,

"All Virgin Holidays customers who have booked a holiday on or before the 13 December 2006 will not have to pay the increased governmental environment tax. This tax increase will be paid by Virgin Holidays.

Virgin Holidays customers who have booked a holiday after the 13 December 2006 increase in government environmental tax will not be required to make an additional payment at the airport upon departure. All customers who have booked holidays post 13 December 2006 have been charged the increased government tax at the time of booking. This increased tax charge will show as a separate line item on all customer invoices. Please ensure you have this invoice with you on your departure day."

This is the link to Virgin holidays update regarding this tax.

Clearly states
If you booked on or before 12th Dec "you will not have to pay the increased government tax (APD). This tax increase has been paid for you by Virgin Holidays in accordance with the terms of our booking conditions."

and
"on or after the 13 December 2006 your booking includes the increased government tax (APD). This increased tax charge will show as a separate line item on your invoice."

You do not need to log in and pay any extra

I am not disputing that. You said it was being charged on flight only bookings and any bookings with Virgin Holidays regardless of the date, you would not be charged any extra.

I am simply saying that your post read as though people who have booked with Virgin Holidays will not pay the tax. This is incorrect. Before the 12th Dec, Virgin Holidays will pay for you, after 12th Dec all customers will be charged.
I never said anything about logging in and paying extra. But all customers after the 12th Dec will pay.

Everything that you have quoted from Virgin was in my previous post.

You misunderstood what I was saying. what I am trying to get across is anyone booked a package or a flydrive should not pay any extra tax under any circumstances, before the 13th, Virgin are paying it for you, 13th or after you have already paid it on your booking.

All my post are regarding logging in to pay this tax not on new bookings
I am very concerned Virgins website lets you log in and pay even if you dont owe it.

Getting confusing now LOL:rotfl2:

We both posted together, Obviously not as fast a typer than you:rotfl:

Glad we were both getting to the same point, I hate going to bed on an argument:lmao:
In the end both posting same info at the same time, I would say great minds think alike.

Was wondering about all this myself.

So basically package or flydrive don't need to worry as it's either paid by VH or added on to new costings, flight only will have an additional amount to pay on their booking - correct?
