Virgin Mobile

Yeah, VM is Sprint, not Verizon.

Talk to a lot of people who actually live in your area and find out about experiences with Sprint.

I've got VM. The coverage maps show excellent coverage in my area for talk and data. In reality, the coverage is pretty horrible and frustrating. I've heard this is often true with Sprint.

If we lived in a great Sprint area, I'd be singing the praises of VM. You can't beat the price.

DH, DS, and myself all have VM phones.

I am locked into a plan from years ago - as long as I put $25 on my phone every 3 months, it stays active. I pay $.15/text (send or receive) and $.18/minute. This plan does not exist anymore.

DH and DS are locked into an older plan as well - $25/month for 300 anytime minutes and unlimited texting/browsing. This plan is now the $35/month plan.

We are happy with them!

The second is my plan for $35/month. You're not locked into anything although I'm not sure that's what you meant by it. You don't have to sign a contract and if you don't want their service anymore you simply stop paying. No cancellation fees or anything associated with it.

My son (12) wants a cell phone for Christmas. However I absolutely do NOT want to lock him into a 2 year contract. He really wants a Samsung Galaxy, and I saw the 3 on QVC website for 5 easy pay for Virgin mobile or Boost. I've heard good things about virgin mobile but nothing on Boost. He actually wants the 4 but I'm not paying for the newest, and I know he'll be just as happy with a 3. So what do you guys suggest... Prepaid or contract?? Anyone have any experience with either virgin mobile or boost?

I purchased the Virgin Mobile Galaxy SII from HSN -- it's every bit the advanced smartphone you would expect it to be -- just minus the big-money contract.

As for coverage, both VM and Boost Mobile are Sprint operations, and will work wherever Sprint has towers...

She meant that because she had the plan before the pricing structure changed, she is locked (grandfathered?) into the lower rate. New customers will pay the $35.

I know because I made the mistake of switching to Net10 and am now back at Virgin Mobile.... and lost my lower rate. By mistake I mean that I thought it would be less in the long run because Net10 was unlimited talk/text/data, but turned out I only talked a very little, and could have stayed with VM with the 300 voice and been fine. (I turned off landline and was concerned about voice usage).

The service on both were good. I now have the Galaxy SII with VM (purchased from HSN on one of their daily deals).

Does anyone know if VM will offer better deals around Christmas / Black Friday? It looks like they have 25% off Samsung right now, which is better than the 15% it was recently, but I was wondering if it would pay to wait.

They may have some small deals on the phones, but I doubt it will be anything major. It wasn't last year.

They won't be giving away an iPhone for cheap.

25% off seems pretty darn good, if I was interested, I wouldn't wait.

ETA, I don't know how VM works, I am used to having to pay full retail for a phone or resort to ebay because I have always used Verizon.
(Now I use Page Plus).

I had the $25/month plan but when I switched to a more advanced smartphone my rate went up with it. :headache:

I picked up an extra HTC One V (not the sexiest phone, but does pretty well) for $50. Thanks to Slickdeals.:thumbsup2

Actually, VM runs on Sprint towers..not Verizon. So ifyou have good coverage with Sprint, it will be great.

We have had VM for about a year and a half now and really like it.

We have four phones which I pay $37 a month for each one...$35 plus tax. That includes 300 talk minutes and unlimited text and data.

My dd's and I have LG phones and my son has the Galaxy which is great. He wanted the IPhone, but now that he has the Galaxy, he likes the bigger screen a lot more.

Definitely recommend VM since we won't do a contract any more either.

Hope this is helpful!:)

for unlimited data, that is a great price.. do you have caller ID as well ?

We have 3 phones on the VM $35 unlimited plan (300 anytime talk, unlimited text and data). Only tax we pay is sales tax on the top up cards if we buy in the store. We've been using VM for many years.

We have caller ID, but it shows phone number only unless they are in our contact list.

My oldest has started to save up to switch to a new phone and she initially wanted the iPhone, but that's not cool anymore but the Galaxy SIII is so she's going to get that.

What do you think of that phone? I had one and it was great for about 6 months and then I wanted to smash it to pieces! Maybe it was just me lol.

I have VM as well and think it's perfect for me and my son. I want to upgrade to the Galaxy sIII and am hoping they will get the s4 and then the 3's will go on sale.

DH, DD and I all have Samsung Galaxy through VM. Dh and I have $35/mo, DD has a "grandfathered" $25/mo. No complaints other than Sprint coverage can be bad in other parts of our state. They also don't have 4G in a lot of areas. But, way cheaper than when we had Verizon! :cool1: As someone else mentioned, I also stock up on top up cards when Target has them on sale, with my Target cc I get them for 15% off!

I'm not a cell phone person so I don't even know what would be a good phone. But I don't have any problems with my phone. It is a tad sluggish when using the internet, but other than that, no problems.

Well, I got really excited about VM for my DD and found out that I can't add my DH's unlocked Verizon iPhone to their plans. Bummer :(.

Just realize that the "unlimited data" with VM is actually a throttled data, meaning that if you go over a certain amount within the month, your speeds slow down considerably.

That's true for most providers.
