Virgin Atlantic Luggage booked Nov 2009

We just prefer to travel light and experience has taught us - we do not need to pack everything but the kitchen sink (oddly enough we are campers too maybe camping changes your perspective!)

I think you are right there. We too are campers, and we can usually manage to get everything for three of us into two small suitcases (small enough to just about qualify for hand luggage!), which then in turn go inside each of the two large cases we are taking. We sometimes have to fit things like the wheelchair pump in around the small cases, but on the way out, they are generally empty apart from the small suitcases. The way back, however, is a totally different story.

Being DVC, we have free washing facilities at the resort, so take only a handful of clothes - enough to last perhaps half the holiday, instead of the whole holiday - sometimes even less. I take just hair brush, toothbrush and toothpaste in toiletries, and use either what is provided, or what I pick up at Wal*Mart on arrival!

We might be three women, but we're in no way girly (is that a camping thing too?!) So now hair straighteners, make-up or any of that rubbish to go in! We have just the shoes we need - a pair of sandals, our faithful Crocs and water shoes! Nothing more, nothing less.

We are talking about upgrading on the way home to UC, and we're like - yay, extra suitcase each. But our trouble is, what would we put in it?! We already have two large suitcases and holdal that go out empty. What would we do with effectively 5 suitcases and a holdal to play with? We have no kids, collect pins not anything large, and go every year, so don't have to buy up all of Disney on our one and only trip! lol

Yes that will be better. Last time we had a wheelchair so had to put the luggage on the carousel - we were waiting forever for it come out

Last trip, we didn't have the wheelchair, but we still had special assistance to greet us from the plane. That took forever for us, as we had to wait for the airport staff to get everyone off the plane before they took us all through to immigration. Normally, when we take our own wheelchair, we just have to wait for it, then go on through to immigration ourselves. Of course, that then means we have to use the second carosel once past immigration because one of us is pushing the wheelchair, with mum in, and the other has to take the rest of the bags.

I am hoping we can get around that this time around. We are taking the wheelchair as mum as had an episode since our May trip, and we just want it for security. So, I am hoping, we can just take it folded up once through immigration, and then having someone pushing the folded up wheelchair, and the other two taking the suitcases and bags so we don't have to worry about the carousel.

Pack less, carry less! :woohoo:

I had this problem, and when I phoned they said there was nothing I could do about it. However, I emailed virgin and got confirmation I could take two bags. At manchester there was no problems (actually come to think of it we only checked one bag in each on the way out!!) but at check in at downtown disney they tried to charge us, even when I showed them the confirmation email ... eventually they accepted the extra bag without charge. I would get written confirmation if I was you!

Hi Diddlonna

What you have quoted in your post is the general information on the VA website. Although you will see it if on that page when you are logged in, that is not the one that pertains to your specific booking. You need to go into Manage My Flights, scroll down the page and it will show you when you click on the box for luggage allowance. The outbound info runs down the left of the page and inbound to the right. You have to click on luggage allowance to expand the dropdown box.

I remember that I am allowed 32Kg because I booked before a certain date in November and paid my tickets but how do I deal with this at the airports? Will there be something on the screen to say I am allowed that amount per person?

My case is already 24KG:rotfl2:

Did I say 24KG I meant 11KG - I had the scale settings not on kilos:rotfl2:

I also got the allowance round the wrong way meant 23KG per case;)

Well at least you got it wrong (and you're allowed to :)) in your favour ;). Imagine if you had to HALVE the weight ....:scared1:

I bought the scales because I had the problem at Orlando airport last year and had to swop clothes around cases and do not want to do that again:thumbsup2

Luggage scales are indispensible to me. It falls into the same priority ranking as having shoes, toothbrush and passports ....:rolleyes1 I have also spent some time in airports repacking before. Not in Orlando fortunately. I also make sure I take good care of mine because they are within a few grams of the airport ones in terms of accuracy.
