Villains Land Speculation

With the exciting announcement of Villains Land I'd love to hear what everyone thinks will go in it...where it will be...timeline etc.

In the concept art there was a big dark coaster so at least one good thing!

It’s gotta be in the area behind Haunted Mansion! Hopefully it’ll connect HM and maybe have an entrance right by there.

Haunted mansion almost feels like the gateway to the new land lol. But yeah I see this as closer to 2030 than now.

I’ve always heard potential MK expansion referred to as “Beyond Big Thunder,” and there’s certainly more room on that side than the HM side. I worry tying it into HM would mean impacting Tom Sawyer Island and put the railroad out of commission again.

A proper Villainland needs room to work with, so I think HM will exist apart from it kind of like Star Tours and Galaxy’s Edge.

The area beyond Big Thunder is going to be a couple of other projects including a Cars land.

Villans land seems to me to go best behind (north of) Haunted Mansion. I seriously doubt they would eliminate the train. They managed to accommodate it with the Tron expansion and it should be easy enough to do behind HM.

Eh, 2 rides, a restaurant & some shops don’t need that much room.

A Maleficent/thorn-themed adult coaster has the potential to be one of the coolest attractions in any Disney park, assuming they base it on the original Sleeping Beauty character and vibe, rather than that live action movie nonsense. But the original Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty are my favorite character and Disney movie, so I may be biased...lol.

Assuming there aren't any major delays outside WDW's control, I think the timeline for this will be similar to Galaxy's Edge.

August 2015 - Galaxy's Edge was announced at D23, as a greenlit project with plans already underway.
Early 2016 - Announced construction would begin in April 2016.
April 2016 - Construction started.
August 2019 - Galaxy's' Edge opened, with the land, shops, restaurants and MFSR.
December 2019 - RotR opened.

For Villains Land, I would expect to see them open it in 2028. They may open 1 of the 2 rides earlier than the other. I would expect to see construction start in 2025.

Tom Sawyer island is for sure going to be going away along with the river boat for this new Frontierland expansion with cars. I love that area as do my kids but the truth is that many people just pass right by this area and never experience what it has to offer.

I assume they will bring Club Villain from a couple of years ago, or something similar.

My gut says no, it is Disney after all. But if they make it even a bit spookier than MNSSHP (which is to say not spooky at all, of course lol), I’d call that an acceptable win. And speaking of MNSSHP, think of the potential positive impact that land will have on the Halloween party

I’m forever going to be holding out for a “Pull the lever Kronk” Yzma lab coaster, making it a more playful take on at least 1 ride.

Oh yeah, big same. I just think they’ll curb the scarier take because it’s Disney. I actually think it would be better to make it actually spooky and not overly glorify vilains by making it too playful (except my Yzma ride, please Disney gods give me that ride ). Make it spooky so kids realize that being that bad guy isn’t actually mean to be funny and playful… well at least until they’re adults and realize we’re all the grumpy bad guys just a bit

One idea is to tie to the Kingdom Keepers book series and have the Overtakers go wild in their own land. Plotting to overthrow the MK.

What I don’t want to see:
-Anything that resembles Isle of the Lost from the Descendants.
-Only 2 attractions
-Store bought, off the shelf rides with no theming

They’ve already said it’s only going to be 2 attractions with shops and dining and lots of theming. What they actually deliver will be anyone’s guess, but I wouldn’t have higher hopes than 2 attractions to open. I feel like if it’s as popular as we all imagine it will be, they’ll add more to this land over time though.

From listening around to different people who have some insider information, it seems like this and cars land will be somewhat butted up against each other so the whole 2-land expansion will feel enormous.

They need the villian characters wandering around giving people a hard time. Galaxy’s Edge started with very few characters but when they started to add the Storm Troopers and other characters it made it much more entertaining.
