It says on the navigators that we should refrain from flash photography and video taping the shows .......

Does anyone videotape the shows (or part of them) anyway?? I was hoping to get some of the shows on tape now that I have a mini videorecorder but don't want to get in trouble or bother anyone!!

Thanks :-)

5 more days!! WHOOOHOOO!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

If they catch you videotaping the shows, they WILL make you stop, but I saw plenty of people doing it; those with little tiny camcorders anyway!

It's barely worth the trouble, though - the video in the shows doesn't come out too well anyway.

On our first cruise I taped Voyage of the Ghost Ship on the first night. Then the second night at Hercules, I heard the announcement of No Videotaping. Oops! Thankfully no one said anything to me while I did it or I would have been very embarrassed.
On our last cruise the only show I went to was Disney Dreams and saw many people videotaping and taking flash pictures. I dont think videotaping is so bad as long as you do it considerately(although it is against the rules so Im not saying anyone should do it), but the flash photography is definitely a danger to the performers. I was surprised that people were allowed to snap picture after picture.

I would love to video tape the musicals, but since they specify "no taping", I just can't do it even though we have a small recorder. Once they change the rules, only then would I tape. There is someone on e-bay who is selling Dreams and Hercules, but he prefaces it by saying that that was before the no taping rule was implemented. He goes on to say that Disney is OK with it. I don't know.

I can't wait until they lift the no taping rule.

Officially, the rule is still no video taping and no flash photography, but it is not enforced much at all. We saw many flashes during our cruise last week, and the CM's didn't do anything about it.

We are pretty strict rule-followers, so we did not do either.

Hubby videotaped the shows way back when we first started cruising Disney, in the days before they made the "no videotaping" announcement. We don't always see enforcement now, but they DID enforce it very strictly on our 7-day Magic in May. They were even cracking down on the people taking flash pictures (which I was glad to see). I felt sorry for hubby tho'...even though he was only taking non-flsh photos, they wouldn't let him do it because of the little video screen on his digital camera. He got through almost all the show, and then suddenly they told him to stop taking photos at the very end.

I'm guilty!!! I have taped shows but I never used the big screen on the camera because I know it is a big distraction. I also take, non-flash photos. They come out fine if you are not oo far from the stage and you use 400 or faster film :D

Just want to thank Diva of Dragons for his consideration in not using his large screen on his video camera.

On our recent trip to WDW and on the cruise there were a lot of people using video cameras that were not as considerate. Sitting behind some one using the screen is very distracting (particularly in the Voyage of the Little Mermaid at MGM).

Maybe Disney should make an announcement at the start of shows that can be taped asking people to refrain from using the screens.

Personally, I have NEVER seen anyone as determined to protect their property as Disney! :)

In making the vacation videos I have made, I have tried to import small snippets of video from the store-bought Disney videos. They have the toughest copy-protection encoding on them! I couldn't even grab a 4 second clip from Tapestry of Nations to use in our family Epcot video!

Point is, their reason for not allowing videotaping in the shows isn't because of the annoyance to other guests, but that they don't want people taping their copyrighted productions. So, you can expect any properly trained CM to put the quash on any videotaping they see going on.

But yes, it IS annoying when people do it and they use their screens! Very inconsiderate.

So with these things in mind, I just don't bother trying to get away with taping them. I tape everything else on the cruise, but leave the memory of the shows to my imagination!!
