Video of Renovated OKW One-Bedroom

Oooh, I like it!! I know there is a mish mash of dark and light furniture, which I said I didn't want, but I think it actually works well when you look at the room as a whole. I just hope that the new floor doesn't create too much extra noise below.

Thank you for posting this :)

Oh darn, they left the wooden blinds in the living room. I was hoping for something that would insulate better. The living room gets COLD in the winter time, then take out the carpet, and it will be uncomfortable for whoever has to sleep on the couch...and that would be me.

Interesting decor selections. I'm bummed they removed the weathered look from the bathroom. And the mauve lampshades in the bedroom look off but it's hard to tell colors in the video. I'll be interested to see it in person but my first feeling is it's lost some of it's charm.

Is it really a 90% redo? Replacing the cabinets or at least the finish would have helped IMO. Solid countertops are a plus though!

I can't tell from the video...did they remove the carpet in the bedroom too? I don't especially like the dark/light wood combo, but I admit, other than the carpet removal, overall it's not nearly as bad as I expected. Definitely better than the studio.

I'm glad they:
-kept the tile in entry and kitchen
-kept the artwork
-kept the layout the same for the kitchen
-basically kept the bathroom the same
-Added the flat panel TVs
-Added granite (although not sure I like the color)

Sorry they:
-changed out the metal bed in the master (not fond at all of that ugly headboard)
-made the sleeper chair so ugly (could use a nice print on it)
-didn't add an accent rug under the coffee table to break up the monotony of the floor.
-did away with the wicker chair (or did I miss that)
-kept the ugly pink lamps in the bedroom
-didn't leave the shabby chic finish on the bathroom wall

Something I can't tell from the video is the hardware on doors and cabinets. I hate it when I go into a unit and there is a brass handle one one door and a "replacement" nickel one on th one next to it. Looks dumb. That is especailly annoying when both doors are in the same room, like the master bath.

I agree with you Diane - I wish they had left the bathroom shabby chic wall. Yes, there really needs to be an accent rug in the living room. New lamps in the bedroom wouldn't have killed them either. However, I didn't like the wicker chair. I hope the sleeper is comfortable and I do agree about the ugly color.

I think there is new carpet in the bedroom, but it is hard to tell from the video.

I guess I'll reserve final judgment until I see it or at least some better pictures.

Agree !

Yep, sorry to see that headboard go :sad1:

-made the sleeper chair so ugly (could use a nice print on it)

It's major ugly :sad2: from what I could see on video. Hopefully better when actually seen.

-didn't add an accent rug under the coffee table to break up the monotony of the floor.

This would do alot, and maybe could help depending upon color/pattern of rug to tie together the overall look of room better.

-did away with the wicker chair (or did I miss that)

I think you're right Diane, I don't think you missed it. From what I can see (specifically at time 1:00) chair in master bedroom isn't wicker but upholstered.

Glad for refurbishment but definitely will be missing things that said home.

:)

Well, it's better than the studio looked. It still resembles my beloved OKW which I was worried about after the studio video. Some weird changes to me but maybe it looks better in person? I wish DVC would have polled the OKW members to get a sense of why people love OKW so much and then not change things most people love.

Thanks for posting this link, I have been waiting for so long to see what was done.........

After viewing the studio video I was so disappointed in the changes I sent an email to DVC via the member website. I got a call today about my email. According to the lady I spoke with, the changes were done based on member feedback. :confused3 The usual reply to any changes that are done in the last few years. I think if she had used the word enhancement I would have screamed! :rotfl:

As I said in my previous post, I too think the 1BR looks way better than the studio and as you said, at least it still resembles OKW.

Thank you to the OP for posting the link to the renovated one bedrooms at OKW.

I bet they called you on a Sunday morning thinking you wouldn't be home :)! Glad to know though that DVC does read the emails and reply.

I am SO TIRED of hearing that the "members wanted" whatever change DVC has in mind (towels, pool slide, OKW extension, paint/floor/furniture, etc.). I don't think we have seen a survey since the towel/soap/shampoo one back in the mid-90s.

So glad to finally see this! We're going at Christmas and it's my sister and her family's first time in a 2 bedroom, so I was hoping they wouldn't wreck the feel of it too much - seems okay to me. We each have a two bedroom lock-off though, and from the studio video, the decor seems quite a bit different with the blue paint and different prints on the blinds and bedding than the one bedroom portion. And I agree there should be an area rug to at least rest your feet on when sitting on the couch. And DH does not like the pink lampshades in the bedroom (at least they look pink in the video). But if it's all sparkly and new, we'll just be happy to be at OKW for Christmas!

Each time I look at the video I like it a little bit more. I think overall it looks nice. My only concern would be the noise from the wood floors. That in itself would be worth it for me to request an upper floor.

Definitely liked the roman blinds. Would like to have seen a 2 bedroom since that's what we stay in most times.

At least the walls are still the light pinky color, if I remember right. Weren't the studio walls changed to a medium/darkish blue? I wonder why they didn't make that change in 1 BR walls too. Whatever their reason, though, I'm glad they didn't.
