ok i need some help here!!!! i want to get some good video editing software for my new sony HDD video camera. i want to make great videos from all we do. Bdays, christmas trips you name it. what works for you? i want to add songs and pictures to the video. thanks for all of your help. thanks

There are basically two types of video software that I have seen. The first type makes the whole process as simple as possible, but really limits you on your choices and options. The second type gives you total control every step of the way, but takes a lot more time to learn how to use the software.

So what kind were you looking for? Basic and easy or involved and demanding?

im looking at making a great memories video from our trip and other fun things.

Try Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 9. It is in the $100 range, though I've seen it reduced as low as $60. I think it meets the middle ground between the "very simple enough to get you there, freebie softwares" and the king of video editing software Final Cut Pro. Has a bunch of great features to boot.
Best one out there. imho.

I've been a Vegas Video user since version 1. They were bought by Sony a few years back. I use it for both video and creating photo slide shows (when I really want control over things)

It is a non-linear editor, which definitely falls into the "doesn't limit your creativity but requires a bit of learning" category but is well worth it. Other NLE's in this range are Adobe Premiere. Avid Express, and Apple's Final Cut (if you've got a Mac). All can and have been used to edit TV and movies (Avid is the standard for this).

rtphokie,
do you have any video you made with this program on the internet? can i see what you have done? thanks

for years I have LOVED pinnacle software because of its ease of use and the quality video it produces. I highly reccoment it to new users. Over the last year I went looking for the next step up and found the Vegas software. I did the free trial on their website and loved it. I havn't bought it yet but I'm definatly planning on it :)

You can see what I've done using CyberDirector by clicking on the video link in my siggie.

I got ULead10 for Christmas and have yet to take the time to learn it. But CyberDirector has some buggy issues for burning to DVD, thus the switch.
