Vibration on Fantasy ?

These responses have been interesting. We are booked on the Fantasy Eastern in Room 9000. I was nervous thinking we would feel a lot of movement being so far Forward. But seems like passengers in the Aft rooms may notice more vibration/movement? On our previous cruises we've been mid-ship and we didn't notice any significant issues, other than the very first night on the ship (in AP) seemed a bit bumpy.

Just got off the Fantasy on Saturday and experienced this vibration. Tonka understand completely what you are describing but this felt more like something was unbalanced. Almost felt like an unbalanced prop. Happened only when at 20 plus knots and it wasn't constant more like cyclical on for 5 seconds off for 3 seconds type on vibration. The did have a dive team (salvage divers) under the ship at Castaway in the area where the props would... Could be a complete coincidence or normal maint. Who knows!!

Motion, movement and vibration are all different things as has been already discussed. However just because there maybe 20 swells and one ship has a vibration and another doesn't, doesn't mean there is a vessel problem. Vessel cruise, speed, ocean currents, tidal currents, sea waves wind direction and speed and how the vessels is rolling and pitching changes how a vessel rides, easily one wave to the next. EASILY creating a vibration one time and not another.

Now if there were divers down, you may indeed be right that there is a problem........I surely cannot say your wrong, without more information!:thumbsup2 However ever it could also be divers for some class hull inspection, just checking the props and shafts for wear and tear etc., or checking intakes and discharge openings, how the antifouling coatings are working after 2 1/2 years.....etc.

Im thinking that the divers are just a simple coincidence. (Its not out of the realm of impossibility that they looked hard at her running gear while they were there to rule something out) Considering her bottom got wet for the first time in 2011, and with the new rules regarding drydock, the Fantasy would be due sometime between now and Octoberish for her in water inspection. Dream would have been done last year some time. Depending on the time frames that the divers are available, they might have been doing some of her in water at CC. Its not an easy thing to do. With all of the openings and all of the people that put eyes on something, you get a lot of go back to and look at, look to the left, whats that there, take pictures of this. Its enough to drive a diver nuts. And eats up a lot of time. Especially since the ship is only in a port for usually about 8 hours or so, with the exception of Port Canaveral. Add in the amount of time it takes to set up and break down so the mains can be restarted and your time gets even shorter.

I had 9000 on the Dream in February and completely fell in love with the cabin. It is AWESOME!!!!! I wish it had been available when I booked my Fantasy cruise in February. I went for an 8B GTY, but am not hopeful I will get my favorite cabin or her twin on the starboard side.

There are a few threads on this and I can say this without trying to be "rude" - once you "experience it" you'll know what several of us have reported back. I've been on the Dream four times and the Fantasy two times so there is definitely a difference on the Fantasy, *in my experience*. I did not experience this on the Fantasy in 12/2012, however I did on my recent sailing in 4/2014.

As mentioned by other posters it's like a constant shudder or the old quarter in the bed shaking - not the typical movement you feel on a ship. Others have described it as if something is off balance and it does feel like that - like a washing machine vibrating out of balance :) My DH and DS who had been on the Dream twice (it was their first Fantasy sailing) immediately felt it and commented on it. It's just a different feeling and we noticed it most when we were in bed as the entire bed/cabin shook/vibrated. I do believe the speed, the distance, the location, etc. do play into this and it's perhaps only noticeable on certain sailings or certain nights. We felt it the entire cruise, however it got better as the cruise went on. We had new cruisers on our sailing from our FB group and I giggled when one asked me in Cabanas one morning - hey is your cabin vibrating like a constant shudder and I replied, yes, it was normal but knew exactly what he was referring to.

I've mentioned it before, I would absolutely NOT hesitate to sail the Fantasy, even aft (our favorite location) however it IS there at times so perhaps those that are sensitive should be aware of it.

Hi Truck,

I was thinking the some thing about a coincident. More likely some type of limited class inspection. They sometimes want video of intakes, etc. maybe to be prepared for something when she is in the drydock later, either a repair or modification.

Just FYI - We just sailed on the Fantasy 2 wks ago. After reading the reports of vibration I was worried because we were in an aft cabin deck 5. We thought the vibration was minimal and it didn't bother us at all! We were worried about noise so we brought a fan and ear plugs and didn't even take them out of the suitcase! I guess we did feel some vibration when sailing at faster speeds, but it didn't bother us or keep us awake or anything! We think we had the best cabin location on the ship and have booked the same cabin for the same week next year!

I'm glad it wasn't a issue for you. However, for us, we didn't appreciate having a vibrating bed all night for several nights in a row (the 2 days at sea from Port Canaveral to St. Maarten, traveling at 20+ knots). Not just a little vibration, but a full-on vibrating bed. We were on deck 10 aft for the Eastern cruise and had the problem.

And the table next to ours in Animator's Palate had 2 glasses of water "dance" off the table due to the vibration.
