Via Napoli vs St Angel Inn

If you had to choose between a 2 pm lunch at St Angel Inn vs Via Napoli, which would you choose and why? We have 2 families of 4, with 2 teens (one vegan) and picky 8 and 10 year olds. This is in August so I like the idea of the cold dark Mexico pavilion and then getting on 3 caballeros ride but I know it’s tight at St Angel and last i heard the food has gone downhill. I’ve never been to via Napoli. Love to hear everyone’s thoughts!

My family likes both, but Via Napoli would be my recommendation.

San Angel Inn has wonderful atmosphere (although you may need to wait longer for a waterside table, which is a must if you want to be able to enjoy the scenery without other tables at each elbow), and we've always enjoyed the food, but there's no getting around the fact that it's wildly overpriced for what you get -- as in, over $30 for a piece of chicken or a couple of tacos with a little garnish, but no real side dishes, so you'll want to fill up on the chips and salsa! ;)

Via Napoli is slightly less unique in terms of atmosphere, but is bright and pleasant, and it's fun to watch the pizzas come in and out of the ovens (if your table has a view of them). We usually order one big pizza to share, a family-sized salad (my vegetarian daughter just picks the meat off of her pizza slices, and has an extra helping of the salad), and a wine flight to share with my husband, and it still ends up being among our least expensive table service meals. Of course, the math changes abruptly if you order individual adult-sized entrees rather than a big pizza, so do keep that in mind.

Via Napoli used to offer a vegan pizza: I don't see it on the published menu, but I see blog posts in which visitors mention having it within the last few months, so I think it must still be there.

Via Napoli by a wide margin. The pizza is really good and you actually have room to breathe. It's been awhile since we've been to San Angel Inn as after a few tries with mediocre food, slow service and sitting right on top of the table next to us, we just gave up on it.

Our last two visits to San Angel (December 2021 and April 2023) have been very good - good food, lovely servers, great atmosphere. Via Napoli is also very good, but . . . it's pizza. Definitely not as cramped in Via Napoli, but, I think, to beat the heat, I would do San Angel.

Will the picky eaters eat pizza? If so Via Napoli. They are set up for big groups so you’ll fit right in and the kids can even be a bit fussy and no one will care.

We were debating the same thing for our upcoming August trip and ultimately San Angel won. We always have good food and service and love the atmosphere.

While not the OP, I was similarly waffling between the two for a trip in a couple of weeks. I picked San Angel, but now I think I might see if can switch to Via Napoli . . .

We love San Angel. We've always had great food and service. Even if you can't see what you're eating! The dark, cool atmosphere is always great on a hot day. Sitting by the water a plus.

Our general rule is "don't pick Disney restaurants for the food or the value." The food at even the best restaurants is inconsistent, at least in our experience. And they value is . . . well . . . nonexistent. So we tend to go by atmosphere and uniqueness. And, on those metrics, San Angel wins by a mile.

Via Napoli is usually very good. Odds are, you'll get better food there, and better value to boot. But if you have decent pizza where you live, it will be nothing special or memorable. San Angel Inn is like nowhere else you would eat. And, sometimes anyway, the food is actually pretty good.

A pizza at Via Napoli will feed a lot of people. We don’t have kids but have heard from many friends with families that while the pizzas are expensive they feed a whole bunch of people making it a decent value. I guess if you have picked children would they prefer pizza of pasta over Mexican food

Guessing you have your answer given the theme here depending upon what you want, but the atmosphere is great in San Angel. And it’s a perfect place for rest.

Via Napoli was terrible last time I was there recently. Crust was soggy. Pizza was bland. Never again. Been there a few times. Quality definitely has dropped

I’d probably do San Angel since it’s nicer inside and my meal was good
