Via Napoli : A VERY un-Disney moment

I asked for no dressing on my salad at Via Napoli and was told "Impossible!" I am not sure if this was considered soft opening. They were taking ADRs at this time, but for dates later than when we went.

However, we loved the pizza so much that we went back a second time. We tried both the margherita and the pepperoni. (The pepperoni is very flavorful!!!)

Salad Fascists ... that's what they are!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

No, they weren't rude. It was more like they were immovable and didn't care. For heaven's sake, it's not that hard to substitute prosciutto for pepperoni. Again, I wasn't asking for some crazy combination that didn't exist.

I was very surprised at everyone's reluctance to provide that. Very bizarre and un-Disneylike.

I haven't read all the way through, so I am sorry if I am repeating, but yes,it very well could be that difficult to substitute prosciutto for pepperoni.

1st, totally different price points on those items, as one is run of the mill and the other is a specialty.

2nd, did it say No substitutions on the menu?

3rd, maybe they need to get acclimated to the WDW crowd and for someone to come in there and feel they are being unmoving isn't fair.

I owned a restaurant that was very heavy on the fried and southern dishes. EVERY day, and I mean EVERY day, 3 to 5 people would come in and request that we cook items in a specific way, or substitute for things that we could not do so, even with a charge, such as grilled shrimp in a po' boy. Our kitchen being the size it was, and our place being crowded all the time, to take just those few extra minutes to prepare something a certain way means that all other guests are waiting those few extra minutes and it starts to backlog- therefore, it takes longer to be seated and the people dining after you don't know it was your fault for requesting something that wasn't offered. They assume it was the "horrible" kitchen and management.

If you don't like the menu, don't eat there. Not being mean, but maybe that was a little unreasonable to expect them to alter for your benefit.

Confused by some items on your post...
:confused3 Apparently you are not very familiar with the DDP: there is NO auto tip on any of the dining plans. The only auto-tip at Disney is for parties of 6 or more, and that is for any party of 6 or more, regardless of cash/credit card/gift card/dining plan, etc.
:confused3 You say the OP should have walked...The OP actually DID go elsewhere, said so in the original post-they left and went to Germany for counter service.

Be careful of your "know-it-all-ness". Tip is included AT DISNEY with use of the TIW card, too.

I'm thinking that the pizza comes already frozen and all they have to do is pop it in the oven. Had a issue with a popular steakhouse here in nyc a few years ago, when i tried to order a medium rare steak and was told all they had was rare or well done. I told our server to just leave the rare one in another 10 minutes and she explained all they do is warm the food up, it comes already Pre-cooked. Well if your ever in Nyc, i know a great place that will honor the request and the food is awesome too!

What steakhouse does this? I really want to make sure I avoid them when I eat anywhere in NYC. I can't believe they are popular if they are serving pre-cooked food. That is yucky. We had a restaurant near us try that. They had a very popular location about an hour away. They decided to ship the food everyday from the popular restaurant to the new one.

The food was horrible. You could tell that it was pre-cooked. They were out of business within the year. No reason to eat pre-cooked or frozen food at a restaurant when there are so many good ones around making delicious fresh food.

Obviously you have different taste than the majority of the population that eats prosciutto....

From wikipedia:
Sliced prosciutto crudo in Italian cuisine is often served as an antipasto, wrapped around grissini or, especially in summer, cantaloupe or honeydew

Prosciutto wrapped around melon and served cold is very popular. I just can't imagine hot melon on a pizza with cheese. Of course, I never could understand the ham and pineapple pizza either.

They have a pizza that is prosciutto and melon. They could have left off the melon and still charged the same price. There would have been no issue with different price points.

I'm thinking that the average IQ of the pizza maker must be lower then dirt if they don't have the ability to leave melon off of a 2 item pizza. Or to leave dressing off of a salad for that matter.

I think I will keep my business at restaurants where the IQ allows them function at a higher level.

Although I think it was rather silly that they wouldn't make you want you wanted, I do understand somewhat. I worked as a server all throughout college, and whenever we had a new item, it was no substituitons on that particular item. Now if a person wanted "no onions" we could do that, but they wouldn't do "no chicken, substitute beef".

OP, this has changed our mind about going to Via Napoli next year. I couldn't agree with you more. You had a perfectly reasonable request, so sorry it didn't work out.
I worked as a server in college and once had a woman scream at me because she wanted us to remove something that was in a premade sauce (Indian restaurant, all of the sauces were made in advance and then heated/cooked with whatever meat/vegetable the customer ordered). I explained to her multiple times how it wasn't possible and she carried on and on. She walked out, stiffing us the price of two appetizers and me of a tip. I think she was totally in the wrong.
However, something as simple as removing melon from a pizza that REALLY should be made fresh to order is absolutely NOT the same thing!

they altered a pizza for me before in September. Mine was allergy related however, im sure b y now they will allow changes
