Was SSR on your radar before the price increase was announced? If not then I'd stick with the VGF/RIV decision since that's where you were.

To be fair it was not. But I wanted more 'direct' points just to book at RIV. So it was a case of RIV direct or VGF2. I hadn't even considered SSR, but there is a decent incentive for 200 points.

I should add, I generally stay in 1BR villa, so availability isn't usually an issue and I usually travel off peak.

I took the direct price, divided it by years left on the contract, added price per point for dues and worked out best value. It came up (in order) as SSR, VGF (estimated to be around $225pp) and RIV.

I would be tempted with RIV, but its the restrictions that I have an issue with. I suspect VGF2 will be far higher than RIV $pp but I anticipate without restrictions as its the same Condo association.

So, I have no interest in RIV, but I may consider adding on to VGF, but that depends on a lot of factors, including price as well as how they treat existing VGF1 members.

OTOH, I may also just wait for DLT, but, quite honestly, if we get out there every 3 or so years, it may be just as easy to stay at the Homewood Suites or Springhill Suites and walk over if the price is terrible...

DH is all over VGF2, so that gets my vote. Our guide already has us on the list for details, whenever he gets info he can share with us. I never in a million years thought about buying it even though we toured it about ten years ago and loved it...we were in the midst of college and heading for a doctoral program so that was not on our radar. All that is in the rear view mirror now...LOL!

I say buy BOTH! Fixed weeks at that! :cheer2:

This was easy for me - VGF gets my vote - I was going to buy 130 more VGF points anyway this fall for a 1Br every year instead of EOY - so I really don’t care (well, not too much) about price...and I really really really DO NOT LIKE the Skyliner at RIV so that, like Poly, will not be in my DVC collection.

Then probably a good idea to get a contract going on SSR and you'll still have a bit of time to consider things and can rescind if you decide you will prefer to wait. It sounds like your comfortable with using SSR to stay other locations and I agree with you on the RIV restrictions. Don't like them and want nothing to do with them.

I would say to buy RIV as you are interested in staying there. You already have a lot of VGF and SSR points! RIV would give you the 11 month booking window there. You could always do a split stay with your RIV and anywhere else given the amount of points that you have. By the time VGF2 goes on sale I would guess that RIV will cost more as well, and you could always add on more then at VGF2 if you wanted!!

In the same email chain with my guide about the raising of SSR direct, I told her I was interested in VGF instead. She asked if I wanted to be put in a waitlist. After having me put on, she inquired about how many points. I said 30 and asked when it might come up to get the cash ready. She said it can be days or months. No way to tell. Ok, understandable. I asked what the price per point would be to get the cash ready. She said there is no way to tell.

So lets say they come across 30 points for me to buy, isn't it a little odd that they would expect me to pay $255 (or some other figure that is completely unknown) if they didn't have a promo or something coming down the pipeline? Or would they just not care, take my money and in a couple months later have a promo or something. The fact that they would still try to sell me any in the very near future is odd with no price or even an estimate. Just seems off, no?

RIV / VGF split stay is such a great option :-). Already bought RIV direct long before they announced VGF2 and bought enough there but tempted by adding VGF2 if the price is right but... then would I have enough time to save money for Disneyland Tower? Decisions!

That is what I have for my split stay in July and October....what I did in March and hope to do every trip!

I think they will sell you at whatever price it is when that waitlist fills.n DVD doesn’t give guides much, if any, advance notice for price increases or promotions.

I am going to guess that they really do not know what is going to happen with VGF pricing so not committing makes sense to me,

It's pretty simple to them. They set the price and you decide if you want to buy at that price. It has happened in the past that promos have come out that mean a lower price on a property than they were selling it for previously.

Didn't this happen at BLT?

Didn't this happen at BLT?

Yes - in a big way. Even a bit bigger with VGC which went down at least to $88 with promos although I'm not positive that BLT didn't too or if it always stayed in the $90's.

There are not. VGF2 is joining the existing VGF association and therefore will be operating under the same rules as current VGF. They cannot change the association rule to impose resale restrictions.
I was also wondering if they can conversely, restrict resale buyers into trading into VGF2, as new resale buyers cannot trade into RIV will this extend to VGF2 as well?

Definitely Riviera. VGF just feels like a place for old grandmas to me. And the room design at RIV is perfect for every family.
If your kids are into Mary Poppins then it is the perfect resort, our girls love the Penguin Fountain and the Character Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (Which is one of the best in WDW we have found character wise and the food it pretty good).

It would be challenging since VGF2 is just what we are calling this. It is joining the existing association and this will be on VGF's BVT membership, as it were.

And, consider Disney IT in all this. What a hot mess that would be.

It makes no sense to me to introduce a substantial new group of dvc inventory without the restrictions placed on Riveria. What is the point of having Riveria as the lone resort with very consequential resale restrictions? I can see from DVC pov to let one of the resort buildings mingle with DVC GFV in order to raise the crazy low mf's at GFV, but not at the sacrifice of the millions Riveria points yet to sell. My guess is the new points for GFV will have similar resale restrictions. I just purchased Riveria points direct. If they come out with GFV points that have a better twist than the current price and years left, I'd likely be willing to purchase an add on. If it's just a flood of points in the system that Riveria resale can never use, any further add on will likely just be one of the original resorts resale.

By adding it to the existing association they will have to follow the existing parameters. They just change the spiel and they'll sell both. There won't be sacrificing RIV points but it will likely extend the time to sell out as they tend to sell at a relatively consistent pace no matter how many locations are for sale.

Yeah, but it’s double talk to push resale restrictions from RIV going forward and then loop back and make more points available on a sold out resort without resale restrictions. They can do it, but it’s sloppy logic at best. Are these new points becoming available after RIV or not?
