VGF purchase question

We loved VGF & are considering purchasing points. Are there any current incentives associated with a VGF direct purchase?

Sigh...wishful thinking.
I've been reading posts about VGF & read that it's the smallest DVC at WDW. Love to hear any thoughts about direct purchase (pros & cons?). Certainly, the cost per point would be a con but, we really loved it & don't know if we would be able to reserve it at 7 months out once it's sold out. Thanks for any advice.

Direct purchase currently is the only way buy a VGF contract unless someone puts theirs up for resale. It could be months if not a year or more to see many resales and due to the size of the resort, IMO it will be slim pickins.

I suggest that you stay their first before buying.

Nope, and there haven't been any since sales began.

According to multiple sources there are not going to be any for awhile.. At least 6 mo..
It's selling to well...

Some info I've look at says they may not do anything until the Polynesian opens..
As the suspected sales may then start to lag at the GF.

I thought there was at least one resale already showing up.

OP, remember, too, that VGF requires the most number of points for almost any type stay. If VGF, though, is what you want, you need to buy there. But you'll need a number of points to stay a week.

We have stayed at VGF & loved it. We love "views" so lake view would be our preference. A couple of questions...what's the current cost per point (I'm assuming we will need to buy direct)? For a 250 point purchase, would you suggest one contract or dividing it into multiple contracts?

Thanks for your advice.:wave2:

I believe that they are $145 pp. Someone jump in if I am wrong?

And I think that the safe advice is generally to purchase smaller contracts in case you need to sell. They sell for a higher price per point, and a lot faster if you are in a situation that you NEED to get rid of them.

Like Deb&Bill advised - you will need a pretty decent chunk of points to stay there for a week. That being said, you could always bank and borrow to stay there only once every 3 years and keep less points.

Good luck :goodvibes

QUOTE=mmmbop;50843554]We were told $155/point on DCL this week.[/QUOTE]

The DVC Pricing is shown on the DVC News, here

Villas at Grand Floridian

New Member - $155 base price; 100-point minimum purchase

Current Member - $150 base price; 25-point minimum purchase

It appears only Aulani has any incentives.

Just signing direct as a new member at VGF. Cost was $155/pt buy in, we purchased 125 points and they "threw in" the 2013 points as well (Sep UY.) We'll have 250 points to use starting immediately, knowing we'll have to bank the 2013 points by 8/15 of this year if we don't book something.

Can someone answer this for me? Honestly, why does it matter where you buy in at, other than the increased booking window? Aren't points, regardless of home property, able to be used at any available property? TIA for your responses as I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole process.

That is the answer and don't underestimate it's importance. Chance are, if you didn't buy at VGF, you would not be able to book it at 7 months out.

You need to spend some time reading here on the DIS to help you understand the DVC ins and outs.

You are currently in your 2013 UY, you bought the points that they "threw" in. They gave you nothing!

The UY that you bought is best used for stays between September and April.

If you want to stay at a resort and get what you want, when you want, you better buy there or be prepared for some disappointment.

No, they didn't throw in the 2013 points. With a Sept UY, you are currently in your 2103 UY. You just got what you were supposed to get.

You will need to bank your 2013 UY points no later than April 30. Otherwise, you won't have them to use in your 2014 UY. You have to bank no later than four months (and a day) out from the end of your UY. So, if you haven't used your current year points by the end of the first eight months of your UY (and you won't use them in the last four), you need to bank them.

If home resort didn't matter, there wouldn't be any VB points left on the resale market. If you want to stay at WDW, you need WDW resort points. If you want a beach cottage at VB, you need VB points. If you want to book GCV for longer periods of time, you probably need GCV points.

For some times during the year, like the first two weeks of Dec, you need your home resort advantage to book. It can be hard to find something for a longer stay at seven months out. If you always want to stay in the AKV value villas to get more stays out of your points, you need to have those points. Likewise, if you want to stay in the AKV Concierge villas, those get booked up at eleven months out.

DVC villas are sold to be 95-98% booked at all times. So the busier times (that don't always match the WDW busy times), there is a lot of competition for locations at seven months out. And many times you might be shut out.

Buy where you wouldn't mind staying if you couldn't move to a different resort at seven months out. For example, if all I could stay at was OKW, I'd be happy. Most of my points are OKW points.

Thanks for the respones! If I am reading this correctly, the 1st set of 125 points I get for buying now, (2013UY) I have to bank by 4/30/14 or they won't be available for the UY 2014 (Sept calendar 14 - Aug calendar 15 in my case.) When we were with the DVC rep, he specifically told me to write down, "Must bank prior years points by 8/15 each year." He also told me to write down, "Must use by 8/30/15 for 2013 point." Now, I'm assuming that date is based off me banking the 2013 points.

How is it them, that they deposited another 125 points into my account prior to the 2014 UY? Wouldn't those be deposited 9/1/14? If that's the case, will there be no deposit for me on 9/1 of another 125 points?

Thank you for being patient with me while I try to digest all this. I'm beginning to forget what thread I read what on digging though all this stuff in here!

Your points are already there. They don't deposit them at a point. They are always there.

You must use your banked 2013 points before the start of your 2015 UY. So you are getting an extra year to use them. But that means using them, not just booking a trip during that time.

If you log into the member website, it should show you the points you have in your 2013 UY and your 2014 UY. If they have been banked already, they will show up in your 2014 UY. Did the salesperson bank them for you already?

"Must bank prior years points by 8/15 each year." He also told me to write down,
Not sure what the guide meant by 8/15 each year. You have until the last day of April to bank.

Can you see your account online? The point are listed on there. So 2013 points would say 125. 2014 will have 125. Unless you have 250 under 2014, they did not deposit any extra points.

When you book, you will have the option to borrow from 2014. Therefore, technically you have 250 points to work with for vactions this year. And if you bank your 2013 points, you will have 250 points to work with between 9/1/14 to 8/31/15 (plus the ability to borrow 2015 points.

I suggest that you really read up on banking and borrowing, the dates are important and not understanding can cause you to forfeit your points.
