VGF new fence going up for NBA

If I am staying in a Villa, can I get to the monorail due to the blue fense? Sorry, I was having trouble determining based on the aerial view.

The main building is open, so you will be able to get to the monorail.

The only things blocked by the fence are the courtyard pool, the boat dock and I think a restaurant

I don’t believe they were opening boats from GF or signature now anyway.

Most main building services, other than 1900 Park Fare are currently Open.

FWIW, there is plenty of availability at WDW resorts--including studios--through early September. I understand the possible disappointment from people who had their heart set on Grand Floridian. But it's unlikely that anyone is stuck there without other options.

We are at GFV now. The “blue fence” doesn’t really impact much for us although we do like the view (Pre-fence) from GF Cafe. We we’re happy to see Enchanted Rose reopen yesterday and enjoyed some time there. But... some of the main bar area charm was the spacious views. Those have changed along with the blue fence to add opaque window coverings on the NBA side. I assume all windows in the Library room are covered as well.

I think the majority of concern is primarily about loss of access to stuff (not to rooms since DVC has no access to those rooms anyways). I also think its a concern about future plans by Disney to start putting up these fences and ruining the "bubble".

You pay a premium for a resort and going to Disney. This is not the same as going during construction as that is required for upkeep and expansion. Although you could say they are doing this because of a need to upkeep the resort since they didn't make as much profit as they wanted over the last couple months.

Can someone tell me how crowded the vgf beach pool is ? How is social distancing being done?
Hi @Lyndz , we spent a few hours there on Monday and would describe the crowd as light-moderate. We were to the pool by 11:15. The Lounge chairs are grouped already -2, 3, 4 chairs. The chairs are distanced although not excessively and the signage reminds you not to move them. All cast members are masked at all times. Folks at the pool are to be masked while to and from the villa, visiting the restroom and walking up to order food or drinks - I did walk up to the bar after exiting the water at one point, unmasked and the CM did not say anything. I realized and just stayed back from the bar. Honestly forgot. Anyway there was a CM who was fairly constantly cleaning touchpoints - I let him know his attention to detail was noticed. You are asked to leave your lounge chair tilted forward, or chairs forward against table when leaving for sanitizing. All in all I would say it is very casual. Obviously people headed to the water and in the water were not masked but it was easy enough to give space. We really enjoyed it. It was the day before the CM preview and monorail opening so we saw a monorail every few minutes pass the pool. It was a fun aside, and we saw 10 different trains as I guess all had to be "exercised". Enjoy!

Just an update on Enchanted Rose. Since our last visit in early July they have added opaque coverings to all windows in the Library and main bar area. I don‘t recall one could have even seen the “blue fence” from the two open windows before, but I don’t think so. Are they restricting DVC villa occupancy on the North side so folks cannot peak into the bubble with binoculars 😜?

Game one of the finals is scheduled for 9/30/2020. If the championship takes the full 7 games, the last game will be on 10/12/2020. The the NBA should be gone from WDW shortly after that.

They were theorizing that Grand Floridian would be vacated sooner than that, though.

The lowest tier of teams (record-wise) is at Yacht Club. The middle group is at grand Floridian and those with the best records were placed at Coronado Springs, which is the de facto hub. The thinking was that as teams are eliminated from the playoffs, Yacht club would be vacated in late august and GF sometime in September. If teams at those resorts stayed alive longer than anticipated, they'd be relocated to Coronado.

That said, it's possible teams will prefer not to pack up and relocate. And it doesn't appear Disney will have a shortage of hotel rooms anytime soon.

The GF regular rooms are still slated to open to the public on 9-21. So its assumed the NBA and their wall will be gone by then.

The rest of the resort opens 9/21 so the fence will be gone.
You’re quite certain the NBA will be gone from GF on 9/21? I am thinking about going to a conference there early October but would not be interested if the NBA is there at that time.

That’s the date GF hotel rooms are scheduled to open. As teams are eliminated, remaining will be consolidated to Coronado.

why couldnt they just house all the players at Coronado?

why couldnt they just house all the players at Coronado?
I agree. Or open up any other nonmoderate dvc resort for them
Some of the info I have read..of course, speculation...was they needed to have the 3 convention centers used for the courts and that all would not have fit at one.

But I am sure there was some say by the league as well.

1. None of the other moderates have facilities for practice. Only CSR and the deluxes have convention center access.

2. Coronado did not have sufficient practice space for all the teams. They needed more than the one center.

3. DVC does not own GF or any of the shared facilities at GF, BC, YC or BWI. They only own the DVC villas buildings, and contribute financially for use of the rest of the resort. You can see this most starkly at Jambo House right now. DVC members do not contribute financially enough that all of GF's facilities would have been open to them even if the NBA were not there, just as Stormalong Bay was closed when only BCV was open - it wasn't open for the NBA either.

We might need to get used to these type of situations in the near future...NCAA basketball teams and some conferences are talking about coming to Orlando down the road for their teams to play in "The Bubble" that ESPN/ABC would like to see hoops on their networks instead of replays of "vintage" games from the '90s.

I've got a rez at VGF in Jan. coming up too...but I do love basketball...The Celtics better win 2nite !
