VGF new fence going up for NBA

The blue fence is ridiculous...

I feel for the people who are staying at VGF before the rest of The Grand Floridian Resort opens. I wonder what their experience is like....:scared:

A lot probably have no idea. If it was me I would move resorts.

I have a reservation last week of August. If I have access to the main building and the beach pool, sounds like a great stay with not alot of people. What am I missing?

Beach pool is a given. I haven't read anywhere that the main building is a guarantee. It seems like they are 100% blocking off Gasparillia so you'll have to trek to Poly for QS at Captain Cooks. I can definitely see them blocking off the main building too, but I have not read either way about that yet.

Gasparilla is open for VGF. Looks like the fence keeps the NBA away from it. The fence keeps VGF people from going from Gasparilla towards the NBA occupied buildings. There are supposed to be shops open in the main building for VGF people as well as Grand Floridian Cafe.

Main building and Gaspirallas are all slated to stay open at this time along with other things in the main building.

I'm betting the NBA will have the convention center to occupy. I'm sure they will bring in a caterer and they will eat in there along with their other activities.

Looks that way to me. I agree the fence is bad show but am glad Disney is able to generate some revenue with the NBA bookings. It’s far enough away from VGF not to be a big deal for folks staying there. That’s good for all of us in the long run.

The real loss is that appears the marina is sealed off, and especially with the parks closed it will be a good time to take out boats. But one can stroll down to Poly for that.

The Marina's are not opening at any resorts.

Ah good to know. Thanks!

I called DVC MS and they insist there is nothing officially announced that this is the NBA. I told them yeah, just like they pretended BLT didn't actually exist.

Much like the contract clause that if the theme parks were invaded by aliens and thus never accessible to guests again*, owning at a DVC resort doesn't guarantee access to any amenities at that resort, although if the amenities are inaccessible DVC won't be charged for their use on a pro-rated basis.

And if they're going to create a player bubble, yes: Guests are "dirty." That is what a bubble is.

* not quite what the contract says, because it skips the bit about aliens.

That seems very specific, what do you think they know that they are not telling us. :D

Thanks for the laugh, I did see the disclaimer.

I’m torn about this. I understand it could negatively impact a stay at VGF in the next couple of months, but I also understand the need to create the NBA bubble and unlock some* revenue streams for Disney given the crisis. As a soon-to-be owner at VGF (fingers crossed we’re at ROFR stage), I don’t mind this kind of use of the property. Does anyone know how dues are allocated between the villas and the rest of the property? Do DVC dues cover the amenities that will be closed?

Certain expenses that are shared are done based on occupancy. However, the hotel and grounds surrounding it are owned by Disney, not DVC owners...the land that the building is on is leased from them.

The loss of use for something like the courtyard pool would be something that should not see a charge. However, with the bulk of GF shutdown and only VGF open, no idea if dues have to pay a larger share for the Beaches pool. That would be a question for DVCM. Same with things like monorail and buses...for 3 months pretty much only VGF guests.

Hopefully, DiSney still will pay their share...owners will find out if any resort credits from the shut down happen when we get our MFs bill in December.

why couldnt they just house all the players at Coronado?

Some of the info I have read..of course, speculation...was they needed to have the 3 convention centers used for the courts and that all would not have fit at one.

But I am sure there was some say by the league as well.
