So, my DH and I just returned from a wonderful 2 week vacation. 1st week on a Caribbean cruise, and the 2nd week in Disney on the Deluxe Dining plan. While we were eating at the California Grill last week, we had the displeasure of watching a situation that disgusted me beyond belief.

While we were eating our meals we saw folks come and go out of the lounge area when their tables were called, and couple and their child sit down waiting for their table for dinner. One of the waitresses (J I think her name was) actually had the nerve to ask them to leave so that she could push some tables together so she could serve dinner to another party! The family was so upset because they didn't think they were allowed to sit there that they up and moved to some generic chairs that were lined up again the wall! They eventually got sat, but I still think this was terrible! J didn't even offer them the table that the other family was sitting at as an exchange, just asked them to leave. Now, this is not even the worst part of the whole situation!

Another table got up that was in our server's, E, section. This group of folks had pushed two tables together and ate there most of the night. Well, J, in order to have this other party that wanted to eat dinner sit in her section, stole one of the tables from the folks that had just got up that was E's table and pushed it up to one of her tables so she wouldn't have to give up a 6 top dinner table to E! On top of that, she took all the crap that was on the table, and piled it up on the remaining one of E's tables so no one else could sit there until it was cleaned. Now, in the lounge area there are only 10 tables, 5 to each server, so basically, J took away 20% of E's station so that she could make more money, and then left garbage on another one, cutting down another 20% until it was cleaned (which by the way was a prime spot sitting in front of the window) Now, if this was me, I would simply have asked the other server if I could have the one table, and she could take another one of mine, and then I would have cleaned it up instead of leaving it for her, but not J! She now had 6 tables and better chance of filling those 6 since 1 of E's was dirty.

So now she has chased away a family of 3, stole one of her coworker's tables, and now comes the topper... She has the nerve to ask E to serve drinks to her table because she had to go do something else!! OH MY GOD!!!
It is a really good thing that it was not me working with this woman because I would have told her she was giving up one of her other tables to me if she was taking one of mine, and if she said no, you can serve your own table their drinks then! I was completely flabbergasted that this could happen in Disney. I tried to get a comment card to leave my comments, but of course they didn't have any. I would have spoken to the manager, but I literally had no voice with a cold I am suffering from, and DH didn't want to mention it. I may have to go and find a comments section on the Disneyworld website because this whole situation still pisses me off!

I had worked in Food service for many years and in one of the top restaurants in the country and this would never have been acceptable there, and cannot believe that this occurred in Disney!!

I just had to share... thanks for letting me vent my frustration!

Sorry this was so upsetting to you. I guess I'm in my own little world when I eat at a nice restaurant like that because I don't think I'd even notice such things unless there was a huge scene involved. :lmao:

Hope at least your meal was tasty.:goodvibes

Because the CG is noisy and busy for a nice restaurant, I definitely notice stuff like asking a family to move and just dumping dishes on another table. I think if it was noticable enough that you noticed it, then you should write or call someone at Disney and let them know. Anything like that can disturb the "fine dining" experience.

The meal was good, but having been in food service, we notice these types of things more often than the typical person.

I don't know if I would consider this very upsetting, but not nice nonetheless. There is always one server in the group at every restaurant...and I say this as a former server myself. I would notice, but I saw it all the time everywhere so it does not surprise me.

Personally, and I don't want to offend the OP, but I can not understand getting so upset about something that had NOTHING to do with her. It is like my motber used to say"Mind your own business, and take care of yourself"
Sorry if this seems blunt, but I don't understand why OP was in such a stew.

"Upsetting" has two "t's" in it.

I don't think I would have been upset, or given it a second thought. It's none of my business. Who cares?

I'd write a letter or e-mail to Disney, detailing what you described. Mention exact dates, too. I'd also send a copy of the letter to the manager of CG.

That was very unprofessional of the server, especially pulling that nonsense in front of customers at what's supposed to be a fine dining establishment. If you noticed, you can be sure that other diners noticed, too. One of my friends was a chef at CG, and he'd be PO'd if he heard that.

I thought this was going to be directed to someone throwing up on the OP. I may sound crass but this wouldnt of bothered me, not my bsusiness the only time I would of been upset and jumped in if someone was getting rob, hurt or just loud and rude

My advice with respect to CG is always the same -- go late -- after the fireworks are long over with. Any earlier seating and you're asking for misery.

I kept reading the post trying to figure out what the disgusting thing was that happened. I'm still waiting.:rolleyes1

Yeah, I'm not sure what the problem was there either. How did that disgust you (shortypots)?

I don't get it, either.

How do you know that it wasn't already arranged between the two servers? How do you know they hadn't discussed how to handle the situation and this was their solution? How do you know J wasn't told by her boss what to do?

The truth is you don't know. You are certainly free to assume anything you like. Personally, I wouldn't get upset about something unless it directly affected me AND I had all the details--including conversations that may have taken place outside of my hearing.

Remember, this is Disney. I would guess that some things are done a bit differently due to the sheer numbers of people--and problems--they deal with on a daily basis.

Last time we were at CG, I wached a woman take off her shoe and put her bare foot on the table to show her husband the blisters she had gotten that day from walking. Now that was disgusting.

What the OP is talking about here, none of my business. The lounge tables should be used to feed people if it means seating and not backing up the wait times so I don't understand why she thinks it was awful to move the family to the chairs along the wall since they were just parking there to "wait" anyway. As far as the other server, it's her place to deal with it, not the diners.

I don't see the big deal either. Who knows what the whole story is behind that.

But the bare foot, blister lady....come on, that's just disgusting!!

I think shortypots was upset out of compassion to E. I can understand that. Sometimes people get upset when they think others are being hurt. I don't like to see anyone hurt either - or insulted. Which is why I wanted to add my 2 cents. Why must we be mean to others on the boards?

I think the disgusting thing the OP has clearly shown is how one person is clearly not meant to be in food service dealing with customers or co-workers in a fine dinning restaurant, sounds like she would be better off in the local roadhouse. From what I've read in some of the above posts some of you folks must think it's ok to go through life treating people like **** or look the other way, if you don't try to change it people will think it's ok to act like this.

Why you're jumping all over the OP for what they perceive as "disgusting" is beyond me. I think picking your nose and eating it is disgusting but maybe you don't :confused3 , who I'm I to judge :rotfl2: .

Good thing I'm leaving for the World Sat. I need a vacation.

Exactly what I was thinking. Why is it so wrong to show compassion and empathy towards others? People shouldn't be so quick to always look the other way...

I don't see any reason to insult the OP about how she feels, and I'm sure she's also aware "upsetting" has two t's in it.
