Very Disappointed in LeCellier

I understand why the waitress said that she doesn't make the rules, because obviously, she doesn't. Is there any reason why your husband just couldn't order the asparagus to go with his meal? It is available to order.

But after all it is potato's vs asparagus thats a little silly on LC's part. I could understand a problem if you were subbing shrimp for the onion crisps on the steaks, but a no veggie sub policy is just a bit much.
The asparagus, along with a number of other side orders, is available ONLY as a side order at additional cost. I know the OP is correct, that the potatoes which came with her DH's preferred entree are available ALSO as a side order at additional cost - but that doesn't make them equal or substitutable. The potatoes are listed on that separate section of the menu for diners whose entree has no accompaniment but who want the roasted potatoes.

I still think, after reading the menu, that if her husband had asked, "What can Le Cellier offer (or do to help me) instead?", he'd have had some type of success. NOT the asparagus (see reason, above), but certainly some vegetable from another entree.

I think, reasonably, because his entree of choice did come with an accompaniment, he and she felt he should get an accompaniment - since one is apparently included in the price. The problem I see is, they expected a specific, chosen-by-them item instead of determining what Le Cellier could/would sub.

OMG Did you eat the same thing both times ??

We actually had made reservations twice in one trip -had differnt things.....but was sick each time. Actually my DH noticed it -- probably during his patient waits outside all of the ladies rooms.

We LOVED LeCellier - it was always our first pick at ADR time. However, the quality has dropped in the last two trips....the last trip it was simply too much to overlook.

The difference is in how you approach the substitution:

On a fixed price menu it is very common for restaurants to not substitute, even Disney. However, if a person has a special dietary need, that's different. For example, say someone is ordering from fixed price but cannot eat potatoes due to an allergy or diabetes . . .

If there is that type of special need, from what I've learned here, the best thing to do if you have special dietary needs is to call ahead and let Disney know. You can do this by calling the dining line or by calling the restaurant directly.

If unable to contact the restaurant in advance, then when you arrive, ask to speak to the chef personally to let him/her know of any special dietary needs, and then ask if the dish you're craving can be changed to suit your needs.

Disney is pretty wonderful at doing this!

However, just asking to substitute a veggie for potato when the menu specifically states "no substitutions" . . . well, that may not work.

That said, I agree that the waitress could have been a whole lot nicer about it . . . or maybe offered suggestions or SOMETHING. No excuse for poor service.

Yes, when I made the reservations and they asked about dietary needs I mentioned DS's nut allergy and DH's carb free needs so they knew.

Right but, as others have suggested, you may have had more success if you spoke directly to the chef. That's really the person who can help you.

Right. And I guess I just don't understand why the OP's DH didn't just tell them to hold the carbs and order the asparagus at an additional cost, once it was clear that no subs were allowed. Problem solved. My dad's diabetic and that's what he would have done. I think this is being blown way out of proportions. It's not like LC didn't offer options that this man could eat. He just had to pay for them.

All that being said, I still think a great solution could have been found if they only spoke to the kitchen instead of front of house.
