Very Disappointed in LeCellier

Last two trips to LeCellier I became ill shortly after dinner...let's just say I was familiar with ALL the ladies rooms along World Showcase those two nights.

The last trip their beautiful Onion Soup crock was delivered in a small teacup with a strip of bread and a small sliver of cheese baked on the bread. DH was crestfallen - he LOVED their onion soup.

I had to return the starter because it was simply awful.

Sad - we were known to visit LeCellier more than once on a single trip

Not we are Tutu fans - Italy here we come!

OMG Did you eat the same thing both times ??

From what I understand, and this is the general 'rule' at all Disney restaurants, is that you can sub sides if the side you want already comes w/another entree. So if you wanted mashed potatoes that came with the one steak instead of the risotto that came with the filet that you order, that is okay. But if the side you want doesn't already accompany another entree, and is just a regular side dish (like the asparagus), then they cannot substitute it.

After our last experience at Le Cellier, we will never return. The food was horrible, the portions were small, and everything was greatly overpriced even by Disney standards. Our server was rude, and kept pushing us to buy wine with lunch. Even after saying no multiple times, he still brought out 2 glasses, and charged us.

I don't know why everybody seems to think Le Cellier is the most amazing "must do" restaurant in WDW, but I wholeheartedly disagree.

That's weird that they didn't let you substitute. I always switch whatever the side is to the Cream Cheese mashed potaoes.

Sorry you had a bad meal.

We had a wonder server, Brenndan? Crap, I don't think that's how you spell his name, but he was great. I absolutely loved the cheese soup and pretzel bread. Wow, what a wonderful combination. He came back and saw how much we were loving it (I guess all the hmmm, yum, noises clued him in) and came back with an official recipe card for cheese soup. Signed by him and everything, so I need to find it and figure out how to spell his name. Nice and so very unexpected..

We had him too in January. He was AMAZING with our son who is 16 and has high-functioning austism but who is extremely social and outgoing :) We enjoyed Le Cellier most probably because of him! :) I am hoping we can go back!!!

Love the food, and I love the Cheese Soup. As far as prices, all of Disney Food is way over priced, but it's a personal choice to eat there or not and pay the price. I've never had a bad meal at Le Cellier but the reason I won't go back during peak times is that it's too crowded, too loud and they herd you in and out of there.

I don't want the soup, salad, appetizer, meal etc. to get there all all the same time and it's happened the last 2 times we were there.

With the masses Disney feeds per day, I will agree that your server can make or break the meal! It is the happiest place on earth but you really have to be a people person to deal with the masses!

Great post. For as many people who will complain about a restaurant, you will find an equal amount who will swear by it.

I go into the restaurants realizing I am not going to get a "deal". That's okay. What I am looking for is the experience.

For me LC is just too tightly packed and noisy. My food was good, but the experience for me just does not get me excited to ever go back.

I have friends who will swear by LC. Maybe you should give it another shot if the only problem was the service. Everyone has a bad night. Thats not an excuse, just a possible explanation.

Your server can make or break the experience. Our waiter this past October was horrible. I had to fight with him to take my prime rib back because it was raw. I don't need a lecture on how medium rare is a warm pink center (I'm 40 years old and order my meat that way all the time, I know what it is!) and how it's slow roasted for 3 hours. There should be no argument. He should have said, "no problem, I'm sorry, I will take it back and have it cooked some more". End of story. He also spoke down to us like we were hicks from the sticks who had never been anywhere before. We were also horribly rushed. We took our last spoonful of soup and the entree was out. Dinner was over in less than 45 minutes. We had such a great experience there 4 years ago but this time not so much. We will go somewhere else next trip. I think the DDP has killed many places that were once great and worth paying OOP for. (We weren't on DDP.)

Had a late lunch today and boy we were disappointed. The prices are rather high for such a small portion and they weren't considerate of DH's dietary needs. Funny thing is at the very bottom of the menu it says you can discuss your needs, however, they won't make any substitutions...DH just wanted asparagus instead of the potatoes which were the same price. Our waitress was also rather rude when she commented that "she didn't make the rules around here." She could at least have made the effort and spoke to someone.

It's so disappointing since I've never had a problem with a Disney restaurant before. Then at the end of our meal DH got a dessert with his meal and she forgot to bring it!

At least they are consistent. I did the same thing last year and asked if I could exchange for the asparagus and was told a quick NO. I told her OK, keep the potatoes and just bring me the steak by itself. Well I guess the chef didn't like that and magically I had asparagus on my plate. I just didn't want to order something I was not going to eat and was fine with just eating a piece of steak and nothing else. My daughter also made this request in May, but she got her asparagus with no hesitation. As for the dietary concern, we had no problem with that aspect of it. My granddaughter is latose intolerate and the chef came out and offered to make her pasta with tomatoe sauce, no cheeses or butter. She was happy with it.

Sorry about your experience. :confused3LC is one of those restaurants I'm on the fence about. First time we ate there (for lunch) it was good. Last time we ate there it was not-tables crowded, food on the floor, wine never came, etc. We haven't been back for a few years.

A few weeks ago when LC ressies were magically available I went ahead and booked us a late (8:55) dinner. I'm not sure if we'll use it-I'll have to convice my DM (it was her wine he forgot!) if she wants to try it again. Time will tell!

We were at LeCellier in Dec. and were able to substitute. However, I feel the quality of steak has gone down a bit; DH disagrees and thinks a steak is a steak. I decided to skip LeCellier during our trip next week, instead we are trying Chefs De France.

I just felt bad for DH because he ended up with the steak salad since they wouldn't substitute a veggie for a potatoe:confused3

I think that was the problem. Usually you can substitute a side to an entree for another side for an entree, but not for an alacarte item. For instance, if there was another entree that had a starch AND a veggie, he could have had that. But if my memory serves, LC doesn't have any side veggies except alacarte (sadly, like many steak restaurants).

First off, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.

I've never had an issue with asking for substitutions at WDW restaurants. Your waitress was correct that she doesn't make the rules, yet her attitude could have used an adjustment. Though I must stress that you could have requested a manager or the chef to discuss your husband's dietary needs. WDW is extremely accomodating in this light.

I had lunch at Le Cellier a little over a week ago. I asked for and recieved a completely custom entree. I asked for the filet, sub cream cheese potatoes for the risotto and sub maple bbq sauce for the mushroom butter - no problems. Not to sound rude, but if it was that important you could have put your foot down and escalated the issue to someone beyond your waitress.

Le Cellier, in my honest opinion, is a very overrated restaurant here on the DIS. It's mediocre, at best.

.... Though I must stress that you could have requested a manager or the chef to discuss your husband's dietary needs. WDW is extremely accomodating in this light.....

I'm gluten intolerant, and I know this who "WDW is really accomodating thing" gets said a lot, but in my experience - its uneven. In some cases the waitstaff has bent over backwards, in a VERY FEW cases I've had the chef come out. But just as often I get the deer in the headlights look from the waitstaff and am picking through the menu myself and asking for assurance that the chicken in the dish isn't breaded.

I've even asked for a chef or the manager when I'm not being understood, and been blown off.

But I've also been patronized, had waiters refuse to bring me dishes I've ordered because they might be contaminated (I can handle small amounts of gluten and I know that about myself).

The difference between potatoes and asparagus is several dollars on an ala carte menu. It isn't a substitution I'd expect them to make without charging extra - although if they did such a thing I'd be delighted.

Let's face it, since all the dining plans took over, the quality of food in all the restaurants in Epcot (except the two in France, for some reason) has gone slowly downhill.

Sadly, Le Cel is no exception. There was a time, around '04-'05 when it really was one of the best places to eat in all the world. But, things change.

The tomato 'stack' is a perfect example. Once a great appy with layers of tomato slices and cheese and basil, it's now ONE slice of tomato and a little bit of cheese. C'mon ! It's a tomato, folks. About 20 cents a pound wholesale. (if that) But, it's a good example of Disney cutting back everywhere it can.

The serving of cheese soup is much smaller, the steaks not the same quality...

It breaks my Disney-lovin' heart to see this happening.

I had my one and only trip to LeCellier this past July and the food wasnt that great...the waitress sucked...it just wasnt for me...

I'd talk to staff about that...the rudeness. Ugh, I feel bad...:sad2:
