Just wanted to clarify a post that I made in the last 2 weeks about Vero Beach. I have been told by my source that the Vero Beach resort and Hilton Head IS NOT BEING SOLD. An announcement of the news was supposed to have been mentioned at the annual meeting but it never took place. So it looks like Rich Yams is wrong too.

Thx for the update. You really took some heat back on the initial thread. I guess folks feel pretty passionate (tho not always logical) about their vacation timeshares here, so I imagine your initial post got them a bit worked up.

When you say "clarify" you really mean retract, right? I'd say that any heat you took was well deserved.

Yes I mean "retract" not "clarify". I hope you can sleep now Jimbo. I can't believe how hostile some posters can be. Rich Yams can post his ridiculous thought of the day regarding Vero Beach and bash Disney's selling practices with NONE of it ever being true but nobody jumps on him.
Some posters are ready to crucify me because I reported what I thought was solid information from a reliable source. I'll tell you one thing my source does work for Disney.

For the future, you really shouldn't pass on such serious rumors that a Disney employee shares. As tempting as it is to let everyone know, the CMs job could be placed in jeopardy for allowing information to get out to the public. It has happened to Disney employees before. I know it's hard to differentiate between fairly harmless rumors (ticket prices are going up, a new resort is planned, etc.) and ones with serious consequences both for Disney and for DVC owners -- like the Vero is being sold any day one.

Yes your right Pam, your points (no pun intended!) are well taken. I would like to say that I never did intend to mislead anyone. I read about rumors all the time on this site, I never thought my thread would have started such anger and controversey, I do apologize for this.

I don't recall ever reading anything from Rich stating that Vero Beach was being sold. There have been numerous posts (from a number of people) that Vero could potentially be sold, but none that I have read at least which claimed it to be a fact, with the exception of yours.

You have to understand Goofy50, Richyams has been on this board a long time and we stopped listening to him a long time ago.;) No offense Rich!

When you show up with your first post and say Vero Beach is being sold, it just looks like someone stirring up trouble to us.

Thank you for being so forthright and retracting your statement, but I'd take Pam's advice if I were you.

I give you credit for being big enough to come back here and admit your mistake. Many people don't have the integrity to that. No hard feelings on my part. Although I certainly hope not........I guess it would be pretty funny if Vero actually DID get sold in the next few days!!!!

Yes - thanks for following through once you knew the 'facts' had changed.

However, I have confirmed that the Villas at Mars Outpost will begin construction shortly after the Contemporary Resort Villas are complete.... ;)

But thanks Goofy50 for reporting back and retracting.

OBTW Welcome to the DIS!

:D

Thank you for the reversal. In the interest of accuracy, while I have read a several critical posts by the poster mentioned, I have not read where he said Vero WAS being sold. "Very possible" I believe was the strongest phrase used.

Glad to read you were wrong. More power to you for coming forth and making the admission.

Goofy50,

We have stopped listening to Richyams remarks about Vero. We know the real truth is he wants Vero all for his self. He discourages the other members from buying he can buy up all the points.

In the interest of accuracy, the title of the thread read "Vero Beach being sold soon"

;)

Agreed. goofy50 said Vero WAS being sold. However, the most Richyams has said was that it was "very possible". That was the accuracy I was referencing.

Thankfully, niether is true and Vero is not being sold. I would see it as detrimental to most of the DVC system, I think many members enjoy a break from the parks and some time at the beach, including non-vero owners.

Frankly, I think if they were to do something as stupid as selling off Vero, they would greatly undermine the whole DVC system for themselves. Maybe not because everyone wants to stay at Vero (although we love it) but because it would drive a stake through the heart of the trust people have in DVC.

Face it, DVC is quite pricey compared to other time shares, and the ONLY reason we bought is because of Disney's terrific reputation. Start selling off properties, though, and then try to sell (at $95 a point, no less) to new people, and buyers will ALWAYS be thinking: What if they sell? Do I really want to spend 20 grand on such a gamble? The value of their product drops precipitously.

Maybe Marriott or Hyatt can get away with selling off resorts, my bet is Disney cannot. People have an entirely different relationship with Disney as opposed to other companies. And as witnessed by this week's no confidence vote on Eisner over his perceived poor choices, the 80,000 families who own DVC won't sit quietly by while they watch DVC being dismantled and downgraded.

Wow, what a clearly stated and poinent post. Very well said, I completely agree. We bought with trust in Disney and we were willing to pay the extra expense because of the Disney name.

At the risk of massive flames (I missed all this Vero sale bit so forgive me if this was asked) IF it was sold, what would current owners be faced with? If DVC "converted" your VB points to a new 50 year Saratoga Springs contract would most owners be happy? It would be the least they could do. I wish I had bought a VB resale if that happened.

I personally would be livid if DVC attempted to convert my Vero points to SSR. No offense to anyone here but I purchased a small Vero contract ONLY because I have friends and relatives within 15 miles of the resort. This way we can visit the in-laws for a few days and still have a Vacation. Truth be told......uh-oh.....I do not even like Disney World. It's just not for me. I do plan on taking my Son there ONE more time but that is it. I'm a beach person and the Vero resort is why I purchased.(Although Hilton Head looks appealing as well.) I don't think DVC could legally convert your points anyway. They could offer but I would have ZERO interest .
